Colors like that were apparently popular in the '50s- no accounting for taste, I guess. (At least it wasn't as bad as this house my grandmother lived in, which had 50's era countertops & cabinets in a similar shade of yellow mixed with 70s-era avocado green appliances....)

Perhaps the best and most concise example of a very common type of supervillain psychological disorder: fixation on some bizarre ideal to an impractical and anti-social degree (OK, I'm probably not using psychological terminology correctly, it's been nearly twenty years since I've been a college student, but it conveys the idea).
