Well, it does look like it tabs in between the lower legs for Trukk mode, where you could squint and call it a drive shaft. Does that count?

No, they aren't. The VF-4 is tailess with the lower legs shifted out to mid-wing pods with the arms; the nearer two have the classic VF-1 style leg position and no visible arms (as they wouldn't be from this angle, tucked between the legs) and might be SW-XA1 Schneeblumes if not for the horizontal tail fins, which NO Macross variable fighter has, to my recollection. The far one has the right general configuration for a VF-4 but the weird stair-step in the wing is completely off and it's missing the big canards right behind the cockpit. I'm guessing a skin mod for an Ace Combat game maybe?

I find myself imagining this as the opening scene of a fairly dark anime. Not sure that it necessarily counts as Safe For Work, though that depends on where you work.
