...I miss Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Was quite fun despite how basic it was.

Oh, there's a Game that feels as if Skull and Bones ripped it off called "Sail Forth". It's made by one guy. You're basically doing the same things but it's all about whimsy and the humor of a Post Apocalyptic water world. It also isn't some kind of pseudo-survival thing going on. You're a ship or a fleet of them all roving around doing things (well, the captain of the lead ship but for all intents and purposes you're the boats). It's fun and short. Used to have a linear map but now it's a radial map.

Skull and Bones will have the dubious honor of being disfavourably compared to any and all future games in its genre until the end of time lol
It's the Turd Standard of its genre, the failure of a twin to whatever represents the pirate sim genre best. So far, Black Flag continues to be that Gold Standard.

Yesterday, I downloaded the Demo of Songs of Syx, and found it quite fun.

Today, I saw the game had gone on a sale, and on top of that, the bundle that it can come in, which includes Dwarf Fortress, meant I could get it for 2 Euros less than even the discounted price (given I already owned Dwarf Fortress beforehand).

God sent me a sign, and I hope I interpreted it right, so I bought the full game.

Went through the tutorial again (though this time actually knowing what I was doing, rather than just going along the motions), and it's another one of these games I can sink hours into. Made a first run, a town called Berenike with the leader named Tarkus, had a good few years ingame, but then the food situation grew out of control as I had accepted far too many immigrants (though it could also be the Cretonians devouring everything like the pigs they are, leaving nothing for the Humans, Dondorians, and the like six green Elf-things I had), leading to mass-starvation. I had dug a mass-grave earlier, because one citizen died and I had to get rid of the body, and now suddenly it filled up faster than I imagined, corpse-carriers literally lying there, starving among the bodies, and even the resulting reduced population didn't take care of the food problems (I didn't consider Cannibalism, before you ask), especially now that there were fewer people working the fields.

Next run is gonna work out better, I hope.

My worldbuilding projects weep, they are starved for attention just as my citizens are devoid of nutrition, and it seems their famine is not over yet.

Neat, thanks. Maybe now I can figure out why some people prefer this game over Skyrim.
Good question.

For me, it's the vibe. Like, you have to experience it for yourself, but it's a world familiar in some ways and alien in others.

Also, it's a product of its time. You can't really do things like quests about drug smuggling or using slaves to advance your goals nowadays or (attempt to) turn an escaped slave in. For that matter, when was the last time you could join a religion (or two) and do quests for them with restrictions like "an oath of silence"?

That, to me was one of the big appeals of Morrowind. So many fantasy settings are just some variation of generic European medieval or vaguely Asian design that it was really fun to play in a setting that felt actually exotic. Weird people, weird culture, weird creatures, weird landscape.

any thoughts on valve's (or is it steam's?) new proton 11 beta for ARM?

and the thing with kernel-level ntsync? (i think it's ntsync, might not be. or even kernel-level, for that matter)

not much into tech, so the only thing i know is something about performance gains and such.

It's still going to be really slow in comparison to running the code natively on x86.

theHunter:
Oh my fucking ROB I shoulda went to Silver Ridge instead of Layton Lakes (damn that place). It's even better then Herschfelden. Within five minutes of Loading in I nearly cause a Dead Zone*. This is a good thing btw. Keep needing to move around to not accidentally do that and still nearly did 10 minutes later when I couldn't resist putting a 277 into a pronghorn**. I also finding it funny how Trophy Rating implies rarity but bronzes are rarest for me, either they're golds that get turned to silvers by my stupidity or high silvers that fail to reach gold by being Female or other nonsense (still wondering if it's even feasible for Female animals to be gold. I Know they can't be diamonds let alone Great Ones). Did once see an albino turducken on Silver Ridge. Was apparently a poor man's bronze given it sat right on rating 1 with a 0-10 score (I have the guestimation skill). Left that one be. Was also Female but seem to recall birds don't follow the same criteria as horned animals and go by size instead. Makes me wonder if hyenas are in Vorhunga and if they flip the script like in the Real World. Although I'm not planning on getting anymore DLC for the Game. Not really worth it beyond what I have. Although tempted for Mississippi Acres, only Reason I went for Layton was for mentioning of swamps but there were none.

Apparently they added new furs for fallow deer. My one complaint is that all three are just tan white with different shades of tan but look weirdly close to albino. Aside from that it doesn't really change anything for me, I just shoot all the Males from not being able to figure out the Trophy System in general beyond what guesstimating on the 1-5 scale says. Eventually the Game will Spawn the bronze and silvers that weren't bad shots as Female to keep the Trophy Score balance. Also finding that most of my callers don't work on Silver Ridge but honestly? Doesn't matter when I can already see the target and just need to get ~100m closer to keep them on the edge of my max range. Did get a funny/frustrating incident with a mule deer though where the blood trail jumped from 75%-100% to 0%-25% (these are HP Values btw) only for it to finish healing like it dug out the bullet and sewed itself closed. Thought I had changed targets after that only to realize my OG trail was still highlighted... Behind my "new" target. Usually I use Hunt Pressure to determine success but it was in a heavily pressed area already so I couldn't really tell if I had got it. I just decided if my second shot did miraculously hit then it would be no different from successfully hitting the first time on anything else and I wouldn't waste an hour following it only to accidentally scare it off by missing.

I am also now incredibly confused by the point of the hollowpoints. Ya see, damage in the Game is... Complex. There technically is no set "Damage Value". The Expansion Rating technically qualifies while the Penetration Rating is the percentage that a hit does damage with the percentage subtracting as it pierces more things in the body. The gun rifle and pistol ammo is classified into two groups "hollowpoints" and "polymer" or "hardpoints". Hollowpoints "do more damage"... Assuming they pierce the skin and hit an organ. They won't pierce the skin let alone hit an organ given "hitting" is also determined by "penetrating". Luckily the 243 you start with has its hollowpoints be free so you never run out of chances to fail to down things till the sheer nature of Probability gives he enough monies for real ammo again. Anyway, shotguns use one of three (four if you have some DLCs) ammos of different grains while bows use arrows of different grades (supposedly they come in tracers to but never seen those in the shoppe so I assume those are DLC only). Now comes in the confusion: penetration also does damage with 2 vital organs (brain, "neck", heart, lungs) dropping the animal instantly and non-vital organs (any of the myriad parts of the Gastrointestinal System, skeleton, or Immune System) chewing appart their health. Penetrators more often then not can reach through all the non-vitals and tickle a lung. I once had one go through a lung, the heart, another lung, and out the other side on a blacktail. I've even had fallow deer drop from flesh shots from penetrators. So aside from saving monies (which given how you're lucky to get anything with them isn't really saving anything) would you use the ammo that doesn't work? Only around Class 9 ammo do hollowpoints match Class 2 ammo for penetration value. Of course the Game also Score Locks the ammo so it's more forcing you to use it (successful hunts give you score for weapon classes alongside XP and monies).

I do feel as if I have tangibly improved in this Game which is a novel Experience. Usually when I finally succeed in some trying thing I just feel frustrated, depressed, want to do literally anything else, and have a migraine. At best. At worst it feels like I need to go to the hospital because it feels like my heart is finally collapsing like it inevitably will due to what killed the rest of one side of my family and Reason for that standing thing from years back in my Profile Posts. Fucking hate that feeling, makes it hard to breathe for the rest of the day and drained once it goes away while feeling a weird reverse vomit feeling for almost a week afterwards. Kinda the Reason I'm quitting Playing RuneScape given it's not only gone above my Skill Ceiling for certain required things in the combat side but seems heavily invested into Boss Fights that cause that feeling and both left the Deathtouched Dartable section of the Game and they're removing them anyway. I try sticking to more relaxed Games or puzzle Games or putting the FPS to Easy from the enemies just feeling like I'm standing there and shooting them till the ammo runs out instead of actually "in combat" with them (although I still feel annoyed it reduces their damage but I prefer the feeling of my bullets feeling like bullets more then feeling the challenge of surviving the conflict).

Also due to how I get nauseous with First Person Games I usually have the PoV set to around 110~120 (it's close to my own Real World one which is the only Reason I Know that's not normal. Highest in theHunter is 90 though but I can work with that). But it caused a funny event in the Lodge where I found it unloads trophies outside of view. Just a funny thing I remembered for how it saves on resources. Seem to recall that's part of a glitch as well where animals that die outside pop-in (~450m) stay permanently unloaded but mechanically remain so you can still collect them like normal they're just invisible. Never had that problem though.

Really wish they would come up with an excuse for a dinosaur hunting preserve so they basically can add a modernized version of the delisted prototype for this Game. Would be one of the few DLCs I would be actively wanting to Buy. As I said before this is the kinda Game I have wanted. Although still wish the animals had LoS blocked by terrain, Primal apparently had that be a thing already.

*Hunt 4 animals without a blind/stand and all Zones within the Dead Zone evaporate and move elsewhere. Map always has a specific number of every Zones just as a specific number of animals are always on the map and constantly being tracked which is more confusion on my part as to how my computer is able to easily handle it. Anyway this is also to encourage either Buying the DLC for portable blinds as part of the Starter Pack (and subsequently the stands one) or to spend annoying amounts of monies for the static ones (which usually hints where Zones sometimes Spawn). All animals within 200m are scared off by the set up btw so 99% of the time they're useless unless you plan on waiting or having it already set up as a custom like I have.
**It's nice seeing lesser known animals. Pronghorns are also known as the "speed goat". They're the herbivorous North American equivalent to a cheetah, being all about speed to the point of being the Reason the cheetah is number 3 and unlike the cheetah it's capable of sustaining thet speed. They also have a weird hybrid between horns and antlers which is where their Name comes from (not the shape but rather that's the official designator for the unique structure).

Speaking of FPS Games wish my computer could run DOOM: The Dark Ages. From what I gathered it has a customizable Difficulty. You can actually Play as Lore Accurate Doom Slayer, the juggernaut who demons only attack because they Know that they can't do anything else not even fleeing is an option. Not the speedy glass cannon of DOOM ETERNAL or the Neo-DOOM one that felt more like one of the guards in a more advanced suit of armor then the other guards. The Slayer. Even sound like a juggernaut. Your steps quake the battlefield, your landings crash like a meteor, your brutality strikes fear into those who you oppose to the point of them choosing to end themselves just to escape it. But the specs are multiplicatively higher then my computer can handle. Even the minimum. At least MKIceAndFire Exists so I get to Watch vicariously. And that parry system is what I always dreamed of. I feel like Tantalos.

Oh here's a Game:
Cast and Chill is a nice semi Idle Game. It's a Fishing Game, quite laidback. Funny thing happened a bit ago from an Update that added a new chievo to catch all sizes of all fish. I just needed to boot up the Game due to having already done that from misreading a different chievo and just having fun catching the fishies. I think the new DLC comes out in... June? Supposedly they're adding a new cabin thing to the Base Game soonish. Just a neat little thing for Playing in the background of work or something.

Is it even a good game if you do not care just for tits?
No idea.

It must have done something right for the original servers to be running for six years.

From the few gameplay videos I've seen, the system is a bit archaic, like Girls Frontline 1.

Plot from what I can gather is going through similar vibes as Nikke.

Played the demo of Dad Simulator 2026 a.k.a Pragmata and it wasn't too bad. It's obvious Diana was designed to make the player want to protect her. Though I wish you could do the hacking with the right analogue stick rather then the buttons.
