Video Games General

Con: Freaky horror-themed mini-quest that forces you into first person.

Pro: Realization that if you go into first person as Hotori, you can look down and see her boobs.

Witcher III:
Fun Game, finding why it's still remembered so fondly.

I am discovering I really fucking hate Gwent. Although figuring it out. Let the AI take the lead while putting forward draw cards and when they fold you shut them down before going all in on the second round. Or at least that's what the Northern Kingdoms Faction plays best as. Worthless against the Wild Hunt. I actually have had Thronebreaker for years but it's not very good at Learning Gwent. Amusingly I keep getting my holes gaped by decks I would be the one to build. Ya'know if I had the cards.

Also I can't figure out parrying in this Game. Their sword raises and the parry misses. So I just dodge everywhere. What's the point of parrying and whatever the other one? I can only vaguely remember there's a third option but that's about it. Nevermind, got dodging and parrying down and found parrying is highly effective against shields. Also Geralt looks like a samurai now from some armor I found in Yen's quarters, also found some guy selling masqs so I put the wolf one on to complete the look. Keep feeling like I'm making mistakes, wish I could remember what the Witcher code was. I let the succubus and doppler leave the city. But I also punched to death the Scoi'tael band. Killed the nascent bandits but now ghouls keep appearing, makes me wish I could use Agni to incinerate corpses. Also wish I could've gotten a trophy for the Red Miasmal, have like three noonwraith trophies now. Let the rogue witcher go because the evidence did show he was being honest and they were asking for it (although I can't figure out why he butchered the rest of the town). Also wow is Geralt antagonistic to Nilfgaard, I have to actively fight the Dialogue to not start a fight and sometimes it tries tricking me with the shorthand. So far I have been lucky not to get into a conflict with the foreign invaders from not-France.

...now I'm reminding myself of Pillars of Eternity. Never completed that Game, I think I had two separate Playthroughs, one was just me being me and the other was a omnicidal serial killer whose goals involved actively making sure there are no witnesses (obviously the later is an endless loop from there always being a survivor).

Drops me in the near center of the map and expects me to figure out what I'm doing myself. I didn't even Know I was supposed to be looking for some guy Named Hendrik till I walked up on a tavern and that's the first thing Geralt asks. If it was mentioned I musta missed it. Pretty much just doing contract work and upgrading my oils and bombs. Kept getting the enhanced and superior crafting sheets before the basic but now have all of them.

RuneScape:
Dungeoneering got Updated. For the first time in 15 years. It now has Necromancy and the necromancers use it instead of just being more durable mages. Also the ferrets don't run away when you walk near them and the rings classes are now passives. Also don't understand the hate for Dungeoneering, it's literally just a pseudo Rogue Like. I actually love it. Simplifies the entire GrindScape of the rest of the Game to its purest form. Repetitive though.

Blood West:
DLC Release Date is on the 5th next month.

Grim Dawn:
Some more stuff about Fangs of Asterkarn was put out. They have enough for Gameplay. Maybe in another 5 years it'll be released. Seriously this Game is a decade old now and it's still getting Updates.

Edit:
Thronebreaker:
Replayed it. Reminded why I hated it. Uninstalling it again. Although I now appreciate Gwent a lot more with that Experience as a foil.

Game Recommendation:
Minesweeper Collector.
Yes, it's Minesweeper... but with spins and twists! Like different shaped tiles and pets that can help and different difficulties and puzzles.

A relative is giving me their Switch 1 as they no longer play it, and I haven't played on a Nintendo console in decades at this point, so I need advice on what to games to buy.

Which Zelda games?

Which Pokemon games?

Any others?

Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Echoes of Wisdom for sure. There's also the Super Mario RPG remake if you didn't catch the original, though the extra content I didn't really like.

I'll have to look through my games when I get home...

Splatoon 2 and 3.

I'm not hooked, I swear.

EDIT: Buy secondhand off ebay and you can get S2 for around 15-20 USD and S3 around 35-40 USD, and with the newest planned release announced to be a singleplayer game, S3 looks to be the multiplayer experience for a while yet.

So S2 for cheap to see if you like it and to get the basic plot, and S3 if you want to keep up with the series as events drop. There's still an active S2 community playing as well.

Mario Odyssey is pretty good if you like 3d mario.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are both solid Zelda titles.
Xenoblade Chronicles is an amazing JRPG series and all four entries are on Switch at this point.
Metroid Dread is fantastic and Prime 4 is decent enough.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate has a reasonably entertaining singleplayer campaign mode (and you know, the multiplayer scene).
All the Pokemon stuff is kinda samey, the most novel would be Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu if only for catching pokemon having you shake the joycon as if you were throwing a pokeball. Otherwise its just another remake of Pokemon Yellow (which in turn is basically just Red/Blue with Pikachu as your starter)

Are they giving you any of their old games, or did they just upgrade to Switch 2 and pass on their Switch 1 to you?

Just about any Zelda is good. BotW before TotK, and I'd recommend a good while between playing each of those. I love Link's Awakening, one of my favorites from the whole series. Cadence of Hyrule is a great spinoff, but it's definitely different from normal Zelda games. Skyward Sword HD and Echoes of Wisdom are the other Zelda games on Switch, along with all the Switch Online subscription stuff.

For other assorted games: Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Return to Dream Land, Unicorn Overlord (not Nintendo specific, but also not on PC - excellent game imo), the Xenoblade Chronicles series, Metroid Dread, Splatoon 3, either of the Donkey Kong Country games. Really, the overall Switch catalog is excellent; you've no few options available beyond what has been mentioned.

Additionally, make sure to create a DekuDeals account so you can track sales better. You can also sort games by "most wanted/owned" if you want more ideas for what titles are/were popular. https://www.dekudeals.com/

I'm honestly not certain what all I'm getting besides the console, and all the accessories.

Any opinions on Pokemon titles?

I think my last Pokemon series was on Game Boy Advance.
