Witcher III:
Fun Game, finding why it's still remembered so fondly.

I am discovering I really fucking hate Gwent. Although figuring it out. Let the AI take the lead while putting forward draw cards and when they fold you shut them down before going all in on the second round. Or at least that's what the Northern Kingdoms Faction plays best as. Worthless against the Wild Hunt. I actually have had Thronebreaker for years but it's not very good at Learning Gwent. Amusingly I keep getting my holes gaped by decks I would be the one to build. Ya'know if I had the cards.

Also I can't figure out parrying in this Game. Their sword raises and the parry misses. So I just dodge everywhere. What's the point of parrying and whatever the other one? I can only vaguely remember there's a third option but that's about it. Nevermind, got dodging and parrying down and found parrying is highly effective against shields. Also Geralt looks like a samurai now from some armor I found in Yen's quarters, also found some guy selling masqs so I put the wolf one on to complete the look. Keep feeling like I'm making mistakes, wish I could remember what the Witcher code was. I let the succubus and doppler leave the city. But I also punched to death the Scoi'tael band. Killed the nascent bandits but now ghouls keep appearing, makes me wish I could use Agni to incinerate corpses. Also wish I could've gotten a trophy for the Red Miasmal, have like three noonwraith trophies now. Let the rogue witcher go because the evidence did show he was being honest and they were asking for it (although I can't figure out why he butchered the rest of the town). Also wow is Geralt antagonistic to Nilfgaard, I have to actively fight the Dialogue to not start a fight and sometimes it tries tricking me with the shorthand. So far I have been lucky not to get into a conflict with the foreign invaders from not-France.

...now I'm reminding myself of Pillars of Eternity. Never completed that Game, I think I had two separate Playthroughs, one was just me being me and the other was a omnicidal serial killer whose goals involved actively making sure there are no witnesses (obviously the later is an endless loop from there always being a survivor).

Drops me in the near center of the map and expects me to figure out what I'm doing myself. I didn't even Know I was supposed to be looking for some guy Named Hendrik till I walked up on a tavern and that's the first thing Geralt asks. If it was mentioned I musta missed it. Pretty much just doing contract work and upgrading my oils and bombs. Kept getting the enhanced and superior crafting sheets before the basic but now have all of them.

RuneScape:
Dungeoneering got Updated. For the first time in 15 years. It now has Necromancy and the necromancers use it instead of just being more durable mages. Also the ferrets don't run away when you walk near them and the rings classes are now passives. Also don't understand the hate for Dungeoneering, it's literally just a pseudo Rogue Like. I actually love it. Simplifies the entire GrindScape of the rest of the Game to its purest form. Repetitive though.

Blood West:
DLC Release Date is on the 5th next month.

Grim Dawn:
Some more stuff about Fangs of Asterkarn was put out. They have enough for Gameplay. Maybe in another 5 years it'll be released. Seriously this Game is a decade old now and it's still getting Updates.

Edit:
Thronebreaker:
Replayed it. Reminded why I hated it. Uninstalling it again. Although I now appreciate Gwent a lot more with that Experience as a foil.

Game Recommendation:
Minesweeper Collector.
Yes, it's Minesweeper... but with spins and twists! Like different shaped tiles and pets that can help and different difficulties and puzzles.

A relative is giving me their Switch 1 as they no longer play it, and I haven't played on a Nintendo console in decades at this point, so I need advice on what to games to buy.

Which Zelda games?

Which Pokemon games?

Any others?

Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Echoes of Wisdom for sure. There's also the Super Mario RPG remake if you didn't catch the original, though the extra content I didn't really like.

I'll have to look through my games when I get home...

Splatoon 2 and 3.

I'm not hooked, I swear.

EDIT: Buy secondhand off ebay and you can get S2 for around 15-20 USD and S3 around 35-40 USD, and with the newest planned release announced to be a singleplayer game, S3 looks to be the multiplayer experience for a while yet.

So S2 for cheap to see if you like it and to get the basic plot, and S3 if you want to keep up with the series as events drop. There's still an active S2 community playing as well.

Mario Odyssey is pretty good if you like 3d mario.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are both solid Zelda titles.
Xenoblade Chronicles is an amazing JRPG series and all four entries are on Switch at this point.
Metroid Dread is fantastic and Prime 4 is decent enough.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate has a reasonably entertaining singleplayer campaign mode (and you know, the multiplayer scene).
All the Pokemon stuff is kinda samey, the most novel would be Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu if only for catching pokemon having you shake the joycon as if you were throwing a pokeball. Otherwise its just another remake of Pokemon Yellow (which in turn is basically just Red/Blue with Pikachu as your starter)

Are they giving you any of their old games, or did they just upgrade to Switch 2 and pass on their Switch 1 to you?

Just about any Zelda is good. BotW before TotK, and I'd recommend a good while between playing each of those. I love Link's Awakening, one of my favorites from the whole series. Cadence of Hyrule is a great spinoff, but it's definitely different from normal Zelda games. Skyward Sword HD and Echoes of Wisdom are the other Zelda games on Switch, along with all the Switch Online subscription stuff.

For other assorted games: Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Return to Dream Land, Unicorn Overlord (not Nintendo specific, but also not on PC - excellent game imo), the Xenoblade Chronicles series, Metroid Dread, Splatoon 3, either of the Donkey Kong Country games. Really, the overall Switch catalog is excellent; you've no few options available beyond what has been mentioned.

Additionally, make sure to create a DekuDeals account so you can track sales better. You can also sort games by "most wanted/owned" if you want more ideas for what titles are/were popular. https://www.dekudeals.com/

I'm honestly not certain what all I'm getting besides the console, and all the accessories.

Any opinions on Pokemon titles?

I think my last Pokemon series was on Game Boy Advance.

Not a Pokemon guy so I can't say much besides what I already did. I did remember one other Switch exclusive that was real good, Astral Chain.

If you like god awful games maybe...

Daemon X Machina, Bayonetta 1-3, Smash Ultimate, and Mario Kart 8 DX

Still finding Dead As Disco to be Interesting but still don't have the money for it. Apparently they have Boss Rushes in the Challenges. The Early Access only is up to after the "Get The Band Back Together" Phase if anyone is curious. Not up to the "Topple The Man" part. Also changed Hemlock's Music for Copyright Reasons, 50/50 on if it's actually any better.

Anyway, what I actually wanted to Post; two Game recommendations:
Selaco
If you like Doom-likes this is one for you. I was reminded of it from a Gwyn Art Posted up in the Muscle Image Thread. For Reference she's only technically a Character in the Setting, Physically she's an In Universe mascot for the Gwyn pharma company and nothing else, just a voice in a box meant to get your attention for healing stations. Anyway, it's Coded in GZ DOOM. It's in Early Access and only has the first Chapter of three finished but that Chapter is longer then a lot of other FPS's, Chapter 2 is in Unstable Beta though. It plays like Trepang². Gianni Voices the enemies. It also has plenty of different Game modifiers including a "Chaos Mode" where everything is trying its hardest to kill you and all enemies are spawning and respawning constantly from everywhere (sometimes this benefits you when both the aliens and mutants appear). It's really really really fun.
Plot:
you play as Dawn, the newest captain of the Selaco Security Force ("Allied Coalition for Expansion Security" or "ACES"), law enforement on the refugee colony ship Selaco after Earth went through an unspecified apocalypse at an unknown point in the past (although Space Bro implies it might be asteroid impact). The day before the Game starts Dawn had gone to the hospital for a sprained ankle and regular medical checkup. She wakes up to an unknown black suited group attacking. Initially they seem human, even speaking English... till she puts her fist through one and it starts squirting purple. Later a 20 foot one confirms whatever these things are they aren't as human as they look. Her goal is to make it to a safehouse she had secretly built with approval of the security group she is part of after bringing concerns related to various other groups on Selaco then both cull the invaders, secure the important parts of Selaco, and figure out their source to rule out they are or aren't alien. After this she goes down the list starting with the coms company that had something called "the God Frequency" as a project they were working on. She finds said project was deemed a waste of money and resources and it literally was just spying on various groups while selling the information to the highest bidder with only one Lore Doc mentioning establishing their own security force that was rejected. So next is the oxygen and food company. As it turns out they were dealing with what would be a similar problem as these likely alien invaders are fleeing the building while perused by plant monsters, they had been containing it and talking of bringing in the security force if need be. She blows up the building and moves on to reinforce the civilian protection, passing by Starlight Labs (the R&D Company that supplies her security force, it's an Optional Level to cull the forces raiding the place for technology and get the Game's version of the BFG). The Chapter ends after a Mob Rush and a Fade Out with the Assault Mech (which you find warnings about virtually everywhere both on the lead up to the Mall Level and the Blueprints drawn up by some scouting attempts in the security station in Starlight Labs) crashing through the ceiling with plans on dealing with the woman leaving a river of purple in her wake. Yeah, Dawn is being set up for a Cyber Demon Fight at the beginning of Chapter 2.

Saw this one only talked about back in '24 but I actually have it and have had it for years now:
Hardspace: Shipbreaker
If you like taking things apart and sticking them in their little boxes this is for you.
Pros: It accurately simulates Space Physics
Cons: It accurately simulates Space Physics
The Plot isn't something to write home about, it's usual evil Cyberpunk corpos with Neo Gilded Age Company Town stuff, "WE OWN YOU!" as per the Words of the guy acting as Voice for Lynx Corp. You're a Shipbreaker, someone who... Actually, here's a Link: ship breaker (Job). Yeah, it's a Job Simulator... IN SPACE! The complications come in the various parts. Like depressurization management (you will almost always have it be explosive) or the nuclear core disposals or the rad scrubber spreading rads after being knocked loose. You have things to deal with that. There's multiple Game Modes, one for limited lives (30 in total), one for infinite lives (which is the one chievos are set for), and the One Life mode. I fucking hate quasar thruster, you almost initially will die especially as the fuel venting counts as explosive decompression. So don't do One Life.
Some advice: Look for cut points, they're yellow usually but there's also aesthetic ones like arrows on the structure. Furnace and barge pieces can be cut but barge pieces will become furnace pieces and worthless if you do cut them. Cutting things small enough erases them and erasing small enough chunks don't affect the value (this is how you get most windows out btw. Don't bother on the geckos' viewport and to remove furnace pieces from processor pieces). Those small parts do add up but only 95% matters and only if the ship is particularly complicated do you have to worry about 90%-95% range for small pieces. The skeleton is one piece but with enough tether pull it can be moved or you can used the mentioned aesthetic cut points.

Seconding this. It's got incredibly tight level design and handling, environments come apart as you engage in very fluid and dynamic gun fights with a fun variety of weapons. For something coded in GZ DOOM it somehow looks better than a whole bunch of 3d shooters. Cannot recommend enough if it's your thing.

My own rec is a 3d Rimworld like called Survival: Alien Dawn. It's limited compared to Rimworld, you chose from a list of premade characters, there are only 3 maps, and four starting scenarios, but what is there is legitimately fun IMO.

Delved deep in the lands of ye olden games and played Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for the first time in a couple decades. You know, it still holds up. Not surprising since it's an arcadey dungeon crawler with just enough QoL features to make it fairly timeless. Only real flaw is the pathfinding for enemies, especially the big ones like golems and generals, can be kinda crap.

Its from that age when games could have puzzles as punny as "choosing what's right" to tell you whether to open the chest on the left or the right. I spent a LOT of time playing that game when i was a kid, now if only some of the secret levels weren't absolute nightmares to complete.

GDL holds up supremely, it had surprising amounts of depth for an arcade game PS2/Gamecube port. Played Archer when I was a kid.

The Trenches secret level. It's so damn dark and a total maze.
