Naaza is fourteen and not yet as sleepy as she is always depicted. also, i got eula yay. The name we are discussing is the alias I want. It's chuuni, but somehow it didn't come up in the conversation again.
.::12::.
"I'm just saying it's the best name. I want it. It fits us perfectly and, honestly, the cheesiness is what makes it good."
Miach hung his head a bit. "I suppose if you really want it…"
"No, it has to be that. It's perfect, admit it Sir." I insisted, before pausing to carry the pot over to him. "And come on, there is way, way worse out there."
"You do enjoy word-play." He said as he picked up another carrot. "But I can't imagine many names that are worse. Within the theme of course." I opened my mouth. "Please, no."
I huffed. "Spoilsport."
'You didn't have any worse names though.'
'Need to keep them on their toes!'
"My Lord?" A quiet voice said in an alarmed tone from behind us. As alarmed as a sloth could sound like. Which is to say, extremely alarmed. Don't underestimate sloth vocalizations.
Miach and I turned to see a young chientrope at the kitchen door. Naaza Erisuis stared wide-eyed and forward-eared at me. Her right hand, hidden by a glove, had clenched next to her belt. 'Dagger.' Pointed out Kaeya. I was a little more focussed on how young she looked.
It's one thing to know 90% of characters are almost literally kids. It's another to see that fantastical lack of child labour laws in action.
"Naaza, welcome back." Miach gave her a wide grin.
"... Yo." I waved. No sense antagonizing my… well, darn she was my sempai, wasn't she?
Naaza's eyes pleadingly jumped in between Miach and me. I too would be disturbed if I entered my kitchen and there was a random, semi-scantily clad stranger next to my father-figure-slash-crush. ...actually, I couldn't relate at all.
Fortunately, Miach jumped in before it could get even more awkward. "Naaza, this is Serenity Zephyrus. She has joined our familia today. Serenity, this is Naaza."
"Nice to meet you. I'll be in your care."
She took a few moments to digest the whole thing. "You… wanted to join our familia?" She finally asked, putting down a full backpack on the counter and starting to unload many bundles and jars from it.
"Yep. Lord Miach here is nice and a small familia is good. You're the current captain, right? I'll be your subordinate then." And wasn't that strange being subordinate to a sleepy-looking kid like her?
"... Yes." She said, but her eyes were narrowed at me.
Had I… done anything wrong? We'd only met literally a minute ago!
'I mean, I'm not sure if she wanted more people in her familia in the first place
'That comment about her being the current captain, it could be seen as threatening to some.'
'Seriously?? Talk about paranoia!'
'Would she be wrong, tho?'
'With Lord Miach as the god in charge, I think it's somewhat unwarranted.'
'Ah, but she likes Miach! It's jealousy! Jealousy!'
My mental space devolved into gossip yet again. I sighed and turned my attention back to the real world, where I was busy helping out with dinner. Miach was explaining what would and wouldn't change to Naaza, with me chiming in every now and then.
Since I was planning on following the traditional adventurer's path, my role in Miach Familia would primarily be that of a gatherer. I would go into the dungeon and outside the city to get resources that could be used by our craftsperson, Naaza. Money was also a precious resource, of course. Since my actual fighting skills were basic, I would be taught by Naaza and my headmates for a couple of days before going into the dungeon. Likewise, I would be borrowing some of Naaza's old adventuring clothes.
I would also be receiving instruction on potion-making, and maybe on item-making later. Miach and Lisa were both very interested in the knowledge each other had to share, and how ingredients from different worlds might be replaced. I myself was going to be reduced to a pair of helping hands… The rest of the time I was going to be helping around the shop and doing errands. But after those first days before I got my dungeon legs on, I was going to spend most of the time adventuring.
Of course, this didn't take into account the many, many ways that shit was going to hit the fan when I made contact with Ouranos. I was fairly sure that nothing in Naaza's wild jealous imaginings would ever come close to the truth of what Miach and I had discussed.
I had a week to get everything I could remember in writing, so that Miach and I could discuss our next steps. I'd already put down a list of topics that I was going to go over again later. After that, we could discuss how to get the information to Ouranos, what was relevant or not, and how to prove my sincerity. We'd talk about Naaza, and maybe to Naaza too, when we had a basic plan.
Speaking of her, she was looking at me. "You use a bow, Serenity?"
I scratched my cheek. "Well, more like I'm being trained in the bow, the sword and magic. Honestly I'm probably going to focus more on magic and swordsmanship." Magic included all elemental manipulation, so that was obviously necessary.
She frowned and I could tell what she was thinking. Not that she hesitated in telling me about it! "Isn't that splitting your focus too much? You'll end up mediocre in everything instead of good at one thing."
"Harsh…" I laughed. "Well, I'm certainly not going to end up as a rearguard mage or a vanguard fighter… I was more aiming for a generalist role, magic swordsman or the like. Darting around the battlefield to wherever I'm needed. Swoosh!" I cut the air with a palm.
Naaza frowned. By which I mean she gained one wrinkle in her forehead and narrowed her eyes juuust a bit. "That's a nice dream…" I get that you're a depressed kid, but are you trying to crush my hopes on purpose here? "I can't train you in those skills."
That felt a little off from somebody who was over a decade my junior… I refrained from pointing out that she was like fourteen (and level 2, boy were preindustrial societies something else…) and just waved her concerns off. Also… might as well.
"Nah, it's fine, I got Lisa and Kaeya for that. Amber will be helping will archery too."
She blinked. "Lisa… Amber and Kaeya? Who…?"
"Oh, just the voices in my head." I grinned brighty. The world was a wonderful place. Nothing wrong with having several people inside one skull! "My magics come with their own instructors and everything! It's awfully convenient."
"The fu-"
