Zombie Invasion Underway!

AN: I've been waiting for seven hours to learn whether I should post this here or in the CW sections. However, seeing as I have seen no response either way, I'm going to just post this here since this thread inspired it and it's related to the topic.

TSV Constellation, In Geosynchronous Orbit:

A bosun's pipe blares through the 1MC, followed by a harsh voice barking, "General Quarters, General Quarters! Set material condition Zebra throughout the ship, all hands to action stations, all department heads report status to CIC!"

Throughout the 1,300 meter hull of the Terran Federation Navy Constitution class heavy cruiser, her crew began to move to their battle stations with the rapid calm of well trained professionals as the GQ klaxon blares in every compartment. Those already at their assigned stations began running various systems up to battle readiness. Within ten minutes, all personnel were in shipsuits and at their posts.

In CIC, the Bosun's Mate turns away from his comm panel to face the rest of the CIC crew. "All hatches sealed, all departments report ready for action. All stations manned and ready, sir."

"Very good Bosun." The Captain, Colonel Abigail Winters replied, nodding sharply before turning to her chief Tactical officer. "Mister Hargrove, what is the situation? Why did you call the alarm?"

"Ma'am, we have detected a massive disturbance in a small American town, centered on the local high school. There appears, hard as it is to believe, to be an incredibly lethal army of the undead spreading out rapidly from the school campus, ma'am." Lieutenant Commander Thaddeus Hargrove reported, disbelief clear in his voice. "The horde has already subsumed the population of the school, and is spreading through the rest of the town with great speed. I do not believe that the local authorities can contain it, and it appears that, should the outbreak not be controlled soon, there may not be much of a planetary population left down there to assist us in returning to our home universe." His tone had been grave before, but it turned downright grim now. "I believe that we must intervene, now, lest we lose any chance of assistance from the population."

Captain Winters turned her attention to the data streaming to her personal displays, looking over the sensor feeds and the analyses that Hargrove and his team provided before turning back to him. "Mister Hargrove, I concur with your assessment. What is your recommendation, Guns?"

"Ma'am, my recommendation is that we bombard the area from orbit." Hargrove said, gesturing to the main holotank in the center of CIC where a tactical map of the situation is displayed. "Not only is our embarked Marine platoon woefully insufficient to contain the outbreak, but both them and our organic interceptor squadron would take too long to get there in the first place." He continues, bringing up a listing of Constellation's embarked small craft, a ten ship interceptor squadron, four personnel shuttles, and a handful of resourcing and repair drones. "That does not even consider the fact that Cobra and Viper II interceptors are completely unsuited to ground attack, unless they either do strafing runs with their cannons, or deploy their 100 kiloton space-to-space missiles, which would have a net effect similar to us firing on the site with Sluggers loaded with standard nuclear rounds. The orbital bombardment option would also take effect faster, and would be cheaper in munitions expended than if we used interceptors and their missiles."

Captain Winters raised one of her raven eyebrows in interest, her aristocratic face set in a curious, if grave expression. "Well reasoned, Mister Hargrove, set it up and prepare fo execute on my order." She said, her voice crisp and clear with the authority of her position. "Communications, can we inform the local authorities of our plans in an expeditious manner?"

"No ma'am, the local bureaucracies are too extensive and we don't have any credibility with the local executive authorities. If we attempt to inform them before we act, we will be too late." Lieutenant (JG) Leslie Bridger replied, voice sad and manner dejected.

"Very well." The captain responded, turning to Hargrove. "Commander, you can set it up as soon as you get authorization." With that said, she turned to her comlink with Auxiliary Control. "Commander Reynolds, do you concur that an orbital bombardment of the outbreak site is necessary?"

Commander Michal Reynolds, the ship's Executive Officer, looked out of the display attached to the arm of Winters' command chair with a solemn expression. "I concur that an orbital bombardment is necessary to contain the outbreak on the surface of the planet below, and will so note in the ship's log."

"Very well XO." The captain replied, turning back to Hargrove. "Guns, ready Slugger mounts 1 through 8 and prepare for time-on-target salvo fire."

"Ready Sluggers 1 through 8 for time-on-target salvo fire, aye ma'am. Be advised, this is a non-standard attack solution and will take some time to implement." Hargrove said, looking the captain's way for confirmation.

"Very well, Guns, proceed regardless." The captain replied, her voice firm.

"Aye ma'am, proceeding." The Lieutenant Commander replied, beginning to input commands on his console. "Comms open, Sluggers 1 through 8." He said after keying the computer command prompt. "Sluggers 1 through 8, prepare for time-on-target salvo fire, linking fire control systems now." When the network stabilized, Hargrove continued speaking. "All networked guns, load war shots and prepare to fire."

On the eight Slugger dual light mass driver mounts, 400mm. shells were loaded into the breaches of the sixteen cannons, each with a yield of 800 kilotons of TNT, all designed to take on a capital-grade battle screen, against which kinetic weapons would be of little use. Ten seconds after the orders were given, the gun crews confirmed that all weapons were loaded and ready to accept targeting and firing commands from central control.

"Very good, crews." Hargrove said, turning to the captain. "Ma'am, all dorsal Sluggers report ready to fire, all firing solutions are good, and all other weapons are secured." He reported, his voice solemn as he continued speaking. "I would recommend that we move the ship to a new position for best effect, sending positional data to Navigation."

"Very well." The captain replied, turning to the navigator. "Get us to Tactical's bombardment position."

"Aye ma'am." The navigator said, before inputting the requisite calculations and transferring the resulting course to the helmsman. "Helm, follow this course to the bombardment position."

"Follow this course to the bombardment position, aye." The helmsman replied, beginning to do just that.

Massive RCS thrusters lit up with flares of pinkish-blue flame as TSV Constellation's long, angular hull began to reorient, before two clusters of three massive fusion drives roared to life with a far purer blue light as they propelled the hundred million ton starship towards her objective at a hundred meters per second squared of acceleration.

Within minutes, the ship was repositioned with her bow facing retrograde in her new orbit and her dorsal side facing the planet below.

"New position achieved, captain." The navigator reported.

"Very good, navigator." The captain replied, turning to Hargrove's station. "Guns, report."

"All dorsal Sluggers dialed in and ready to fire." He responded.

"Very well. Fire at will Commander." Captain Winters replied. "Let's hope we don't come to regret this."

On the dorsal surfaces of the Constellation's forward hull, two rows of four dual turrets elevated their guns into firing position, and the ship twitched as the sixteen two-ton shells were sent screaming towards the planet at sixty kilometers per second. Less than five seconds later, the zombie infested town was wiped from the map, destroying the portal to the world of the undead along with it.

"Bombardment complete." Hargrove reported several minutes later after the dust had settled somewhat, turning to Captain Winters. "The target has been destroyed, and there are no signs of continued spread. I think we've done it, Skipper."

"Well done." The captain replied before turning to the Bosun's Mate. "Stand down from quarters, all department heads will report to Briefing 1 in thirty minutes, and good job to the whole crew."

"Stand down from GQ aye, all department heads report to Briefing 1 in thirty minutes aye, well done to the whole crew, aye aye." He said, a twitch at the corner of his lips betraying his pleasure at that last one.

As the Bosun's Mate began that announcement, none of the Constellation's crew had any idea what kind of mess their actions had created, both politically, and militarily, on the planet below.

I for one hope that they're the World War Z kind of, unstoppable hive mind 'zombies'; and not some weak sauce walker, or even a base human rage variant— preferably by way of a Brethren Moon.

How do I get rid of this zombie background image? Lightened is the only style I like on the site and the background image ruins the reading experience cause its so distracting.

Wait about 3 hours, April Fools will be over then.

Alternatively use the Light or Xenforo Default style in the meantime.

I sleep for a day and this happens....welp time to go get my benelli M4 and hope these aren't close to dying light or RE zombies otherwise I might need more Dakka

I Want the ones From Return Of The Living Dead. Then trying to Kill them doesn't work and they can set traps.

Hmmm... is it a first offense?

… does anyone want any help with zombie stuff? My scuba diver ghost is very good at punching stuff (and stopping time). Also, the creepy mansion I'm hiding in with all the people who keep swearing loyalty to me has a ton of space.

I only got a Shinai in my home, and some knifes, so im more or less alright if i get a low number of zombies, lets meet at april 2nd my friends of QQ if fate lets us

I just walk away with my dog cause... Well, they cant chase me well, maybe throw a rock at them while im at it.

The Benelli M4? You have excellent taste in shotguns. Good hunting, but I hope you don't mind me bringing the orbital bombardment. After all, it's the only way to be sure, isn't it?
