In the first series, people just kind of hated the characters, but not that much, they weren't that bad, at least, the comic version was pretty good, the written was bad, and the animation was awful, but later on, people just hated how there's this concept where Shrek people are Tenryubito in the Douluo setting, which is kind of lmao

honestly I'd say most xianxia are worse in terms of plot xianxia usually follow the same formula a hundred or three times before they end. With pissing off a young master until there's no one left of whatever clan their in.
