The fear and the hotter than usual temperature meant she basically had a heat stroke by the time she reached the finish line.Sunset Groom: "I'M GONNA DDDIIIIIEEEEE!!!!" *runs for dear life*
"Where did they find this Polish Samurai?! All the Polish stubbornness and vitriol combined with Japanese precision and disregard for their own life."
Does it really count as being a suicide runner if shes just got that much stamina that she can keep it up all race?
Shirogane is basically the dedicated team pocket stamina debuffer so the other Aces on the team can capitalize
"What do you call a suicide runner that doesn't die?"
She picked up more than just her looks from her mother, lol. The hatred of communists was there before though.
To be fair to her, at this point the Gold Clan isn't as well established in reputation, so while they're an up-and-comer a more casual follower wouldn't have really heard too much about them. Not to mention that unlike the Mejiro umas, the Gold Clan umas don't really fit the usual behavioral expectations. It's a bit hard to get the conclusion that the uma who looks like they could be homeless is actually from a rich family.Did she did not know the Gold clan?
Even as someone as disinterested in racing, surely would know?
The AOE debuff she emanates also is funny although I hope it won't be overused. It seems the type of thing that only racers both inexperienced and unfamiliar with her would be affected by
While not all of her classmates would suggest she hype up her villain behavior, El Condor Pasa might.Wonder if they'll recommend her to amp up the dark villian energy as infamy is very marketable, probably not though since I wouldn't assume most of those on her team would think about infamous marketability and probably feel bad about her villian moniker.
That was indeed cool but who is this person? Rudolf doesnt have that level of English.
This was the subtitles.Well, it was inevitable that someone would say it at some point...but really, Rudolf? You?
In this case she was completely blank faced. She'll need some blood in her eyes before she frenzies enough to pull out the slasher smile. Also In my head she has her Tanya/Agnes Tachyon smile as she is racing chasing down the other racers and off the track she has her monotone face and she doesn't realize it so she is unintentionally scaring the other racers into thinking a crazed War Uma is chasing them down
I think Twin Turbo might have a heart attack mid-race.
Shirogane and Manhattan Cafe in a dark classroom at night. Who wins the staring contest? Now I wanna see how people react when Shirogane stops blinking.
I mean, if Shirogane was a real life mare, it would probably get considered.Heh! SteGo is both curious and concerned about the quiet kohai.
You know what? I ship it.
El Condor Pasa ran in the Dirt and Medium tryouts, but she was in a different heat for the medium since that was the most popular distance.
She probably freaked out anyone chasing her because she ran like Robert Patrick as the T1000.
Maybe? They don't seem to have a concept of the animal, but 'Umamusume' just means 'horse girl', so in English it stands to reason that 'horse' is just a shorthand for 'horsegirl'.
"What do you call a suicide runner that doesn't die?"
"A Homicide runner."
I think from what we know Umas are either born the normal way or just literally are a blessing from the Goddesses sometimes, so Uma x Uma pairings are probably a regular thing? I mean, I kinda have to assume the Goddesses were involved with Shirogane being born, so obviously they do some overt work when they want to.I mean, if Shirogane was a real life mare, it would probably get considered.
A US born horse that races in Japan in a racewear based of a Luchador from Mexico with a Peruvian name, El Condor Pasa is probably one of the most marketable horse of all time naturally, she also takes seriously her luchador persona so unexpectably El Condor Pasa might be someone good to talk about how your image relates to the public. While not all of her classmates would suggest she hype up her villain behavior, El Condor Pasa might
No Tanya/Tachyon no magic/drugs for you in the race.In this case she was completely blank faced. She'll need some blood in her eyes before she frenzies enough to pull out the slasher smile.
"What do you call a suicide runner that doesn't die?"
"A Homicide runner."
On the other hand, a Turk who so readily abandoned being a Turk couldn't have been all bad.
Twin Turbo racing against Shirogane (#4 is Shirogane)
She looked up to see a small dark haired uma dressed in a way where they could rather convincingly pass as a homeless bum.
Shirogane and Manhattan Cafe in a dark classroom at night. Who wins the staring contest?
Haha, even worse. It's right behind you, so close it doesn't have to make an effort to touch you. It's not hunting you, it's playing with its food.Imagine a usually expressionless person (that is always eerily still) chasing you from behind, with Blood Red eyes, and a wide slasher smile that screams She Lusts for your Blood.
For the poor Umas, it would be like Death itself was chasing them, especially if there is a heavy dose of killing intent involved. Horses are easily spooked, now they are literally running for their lives. It's not a race to finish line anymore, it's fleeing their end.
Turbo is ruined for marriage, you have to take responsibility Shirogane.>Uma: "Is she... dead?"
>Shirogane: "I believe this is called Hypoxic euphoria."
>Uma: "Umm?"
>Turbo: "Whheeehehe~ Sheeerooooo-chaaan"
>Shirogane: "It's more commonly known as autoerotic asphyxiation, please pace yourself next time Turbo, indulging in this sort of thing can cause brain damage."
>Turbo: "heeehee~ I suuurvived!"
>Uma: "How does she know this?"
>Shirogane: *corporate HR flashbacks*
I'd like to note that horses, and the word horse, do not exist in the Umamusume setting. They are Uma, even in English. It's even to the point that in the game "horse" is banned by the word filter."Behold, a pale horse," Rudolf murmured, speaking in English, "and the name given to her was Death, and Hell followed with her."
Isn't that a really small amount in this context?"She's done it! Shirogane Oruzeru takes first place in her second tryout!"
Down on the track, Shirogane passed the finish line a full length ahead of her opponent
"Behold, a pale horse," Rudolf murmured, speaking in English, "and the name given to her was Death, and Hell followed with her."
Dunno, but it certainly seems Shirogano has inherited more from her polish mother than just the warhonse genes.
I think Shirogane just gained her own Majima.Twin Turbo racing against Shirogane (#4 is Shirogane)

The aftermath:
>Uma: "Is she... dead?"![]()
Basically opposites:
>Shirogane: Cause of fear, endless endurance, low top speed, lack of passion.
>A Slasher villain of a horse.
>Twin Turbo: An engine that turns fear into speed, Endurance so low she runs off of Guts, Absurd speed, incredible passion.
>"I don't "strategize". I don't "set the pace". I don't "conserve my energy". I RUN FULL SPEED. And if my stamina doesn't hold out until the end, then I DON'T WIN."
When the title of the story itself contradicts that bit of lore, I think it's safe to say that it doesn't apply here.I'd like to note that horses, and the word horse, do not exist in the Umamusume setting. They are Uma, even in English. It's even to the point that in the game "horse" is banned by the word filter.
The 2 races Shirogane ran were not of the same length so that should not have been the case.In the last chapter, Shirogane noted before she started when her second race was scheduled, which implies that the lineup for each heat was already set. But the commentary in this chapter suggests that all the racers in this heat are here because they lost a previous race. Were they just coincidentally all runners who had lost a previous race? Did the schedule have "if win, go to X, if lose, go to Y," instructions, and Shirogane just naturally assumed she'd lose?
I was referring to the alternate universe where Shirogane Orzel was a racehorse. She'd probably be thought of as a good broodmare due to her demeanor, but her foals would likely be quite a bit more difficult to handle than expected.I think from what we know Umas are either born the normal way or just literally are a blessing from the Goddesses sometimes
I'm not sure how much of that El Condor Pasa could consciously explain, since most of it seems to come from her learning behavior from her parents or a more instinctive understanding. Still, it would be funny to have her be the fan favorite while Shirogane is the heel.she also takes seriously her luchador persona so unexpectably El Condor Pasa might be someone good to talk about how your image relates to the public.
If Shirogane gets pissed enough some of them probably would feel like that, though for the most part she won't be that angry so the others are just unnerved by a creepy horse. For the poor Umas, it would be like Death itself was chasing them, especially if there is a heavy dose of killing intent involved.
Yes and no, while she'd make the result more unpredictable, she'd also be a consistent performer so she's not that exciting herself, and in most cases she'd decrease the chance of a dark horse winning, though depending on the bookie that might be considered a good thing. Now that I think about it, wouldn't Shiro-chan be very popular with bookies due to her scrambling the results? Same with those running the races, even if she's just gate filler for higher races, her tendency to force mistakes would shake up the monotony of races that might otherwise be too predictable.
Not at all, but I have lived in an area with a lot of ethnic Poles.
I think she'd be more likely to refer to it as an adrenaline crash. Even after two lives Salaryman/Tanya doesn't seem like someone who would have had that much sexual experience.>Uma: "Is she... dead?"
>Shirogane: "I believe this is called Hypoxic euphoria."
She is the one with the most similar position aptitude, to some degree, though Shirogane is more psychologically inclined towards Pace Chaser and isn't bothered by being around other runners, and she's more effective in the runaway style for the opposite reason to Suzuka. Suzuka is also steady/airheaded enough that she isn't too bothered by Shirogane beyond the usual preference for being out front.I'm fairly certain Suzuka is Shirogane's best training partner.
Shirogane probably would conclude Cafe has schizophrenia or some similar condition if Cafe starts talking to her friend around her, but there is the funny thought that Shiro's intimidating aura is much worse on the spiritual level, so Cafe's friend stays away when Shirogane is nearby, so she thinks Cafe is fairly normal, if quiet, and just has an overblown reputation.I do wonder what sort of interaction it'd bring about, perhaps the usual, where Shirogane makes a note that Cafe might have undiagnosed schizophrenia? However, with the friend having actual physical phenomena attached to varying degrees, perhaps Shirogane might be more accepting of it than most.
I find that a bit silly, and likely more of a product of English's tendency to adopt foreign words. From a lore perspective, English could not possibly have adopted that word from Japanese because of the distance culturally. If English did adopt a word for umas it'd likely be from Latin or French, but since irl horse derives from the Germanic, it makes more sense just to have 'horse' apply to 'horsegirls' the same way 'umamusume' is.
It's not a large margin of victory, no, but Shirogane walked off like she could do it again while her opponent couldn't walk under her own power. It's part of why Shirogane didn't view it as a particularly impressive accomplishment, especially since she didn't see Sunset Groom collapse (the adrenaline didn't go away until the object of fear leaves line of sight).
As small as Shirogane is, there are quite a few umas shorter than her.Lol tge fact she is tiny makes it even funnier that the other umas find her intimidating. XD
Her second tryout was mostly with other runners who were also on their second or third tryout, and since there's only one winner for a race, Narita Brian just described them in disparaging terms since she didn't expect them to do particularly well. And since none of the runners in the heat had won a tryout run, technically you could call it a losers' bracket. In the last chapter, Shirogane noted before she started when her second race was scheduled, which implies that the lineup for each heat was already set. But the commentary in this chapter suggests that all the racers in this heat are here because they lost a previous race. Were they just coincidentally all runners who had lost a previous race?
Oguri Cap is the wrong color for Famine, unfortunately.
