On a Pale Horse (Umamusume/Youjo Senki)

Hmm, was there any widespread racism against Umas in the anime?, either hinted at or shown?

Cause a group that all woman & is physically stronger, while still being a minority, would provide an amble opportunity for to use hate as a way to ascend to political power.

Dunno and don't particularly care. The series isn't the sort to explore that sort of stuff, and I know this fic only touch a bit on that sort of stuff because the sheer physical and mental difference meant that some laws, like that Uma-specific road lane, were meant to accommodate them, but I very much doubt this fic will explore that any further than what is required to tell Shirogane story.

Feel free to create your own fic/omake exploring that part of the series theoretical political/social thriller.

Wow was just asking, no need for the hostile tone dude.

In all honesty, there's no way a physically stronger subset of the human species would be discriminated against, considering they're basically tailor-made to be a warrior class, which, historically, you don't want to get on the bad side of.

Also the out-of-universe reason of Umamusume being a celebration of Japanese horse racing, which racism and/or sexism would only distract from.

This is basically canon actually. One of the sillier things about the setting is that world history is basically the exact same, just Umas replaced horses.

So like...Mongol invasions? Shit load of Umas with bows. Cataphracts? Bunch of heavily armored Umas. Crusades? There were a bunch of heavily armored religious zealot Umas. Charge of the light brigade? Bunch of Umas got shot to shit.

Granted, that doesn't really preclude Uma on Uma racism. And given Shiro's grand aunt was a polish uma who died young during WWII...well there were almost certainly Nazi umas.

Now granted, the setting never really engages with that, because it's not that kind of franchise, but the implications are fascinating.

Apologies. As you can imagine, not a fan of that premise at all. Yet, I also don't want to shut that down since there's probably an audience for it, so I meant it when I said feel free to make your own story about it.

As for your original question, I dunno about the original series but in Grey Cinderella, Oguri Cap was unable to participate in one of the classic race due to her late admittance to Tracen and thus late registration, which seems to favor those who can afford to attend Tracen from the start of the semester, favoring either those who can attend Tracen from the start like the rich and/or racing families, or those lucky enough to be noticed early.

For this fic, in one of the chapter where Shirogane spoke to one of the traffic police, in his internal narration the police is weary of Uma Musume in general despite their generally affable nature because their higher physical attribute meant that they aren't as easily or safely contain, especially drunk. Also, the difficulty in judging a UM age based on their appearance due to how variable a UM age is to their general height compared to the normal human growth pattern.

Take of that what you will.

Well the police officer is a case of "no one wants a drunk Elf, they all bloody know magic "!, i imagine the police force doesn't contain enough Umas to deal with their mischief and have difficulty attaining funding to build the needed facilities.

As for the rich Umas having an unfair advantage, well that's life, so again no racism.

But a slice of life is fun too, so if the author never intend to discuss such heavy topics, I'm good with that.

So, does it means that Genghis Khan, regardless of his history, is probably known among the greatest of trainers? One that commanded an army of bloodthirsty 'Nishino Flower' sized Umas?
He could be, or his Uma wife could be the to keep them in line, at the end of the day he is still a human, and this isn't racing, this is war and conquest, so the bloodthirsty Umas need someone strong to put them in their place if they get uppity.

Huzzah! So yeah there's deffo a misfortune or rather disruption aura to her, and it's honestly nice to read a story where every race isn't treated like a make it or break it event.
Given that many of the famous horses irl ran something like 10 races before retiring (or dying), every race kinda is a big deal to them, but for an uma who can run pretty much as many races as they want, each one isn't going to be as big of a deal.

If Shirogane tells her parents about this then they will both feel that she's her father's daughter. Lure a boy in with food, chat about common interests and before he knows it he wants to continue to eat her food.
She has already managed to turn a good chunk of her middle school classmates into regulars at the restaurant by giving out samples. They know she is capable of pulling this off.

Also, I'm loving that people that Shiro had spent a long time with actually understand her. It bodes well for the future of her relationships with her classmates.
Shirogane is not in circumstances where she has to disguise her real feelings nearly as much compared to Tanya, so there is less misunderstanding with people she's more familiar with. And as little as Shirogane hypes up the races, she does actually rather like running.

"Torena-San, I want to run more races."

"Yes Shiro."

"I want to run every race."

"No Shiro."
Shirogane is the one trainee who gets upset if you don't run a race after three turns instead of getting upset if you run more than three consecutive races.

I do find it quite entertaining how intense everyone is and how nonchalant tanya us, and despite that mesh quite well.
To be fair, while Shirogane is not very invested in the hype and glory of the races, she does put a lot of effort and thought into her work, so she does come off as quite intense to other people while her internal thoughts are more relaxed, because her standards are just kind of wonky.

Salaryman and Shirogane both believe that second place is a fancy way of saying first last place.
Most competitive umas think like this, especially if they are shooting for the glory. For Shirogane, since she's more interested in the money, as long as she places it is some degree of win, and first is more a case of winning harder.

I'm just thinking that while she may not win G1s, her being super consistent in getting a placing makes her an unofficial gatekeeper.
Since she will tend to front run and is quite good at blocking people off towards the end of the race, this could definitely be something that happens. Also maybe more literally with the higher rate of gate related incidents when she is present.

...I see what you did here.
The +Wit support event strikes again!
NGL it feels like at least half of the scenes in this fic are support events.

I'm currently blaming that "game" on why Urara wasn't out of breath in the race. It was just her bad running form that held her back this time.
From what I understand, irl Haru Urara actually had pretty decent stamina, enough that after the races she often still wanted to run, but since her life basically depended on her running consistently, she wasn't trained as much towards winning at all costs.

Swift Yuno and Akira have been together for how long 3 years
Something like 1 to 2 years. They got together towards the end of their last year of middle school and now they're partway through their first year of high school.

Truly, She is setting one hell of a punishing pace for anyone seeking to go by her example; It's like she's at the finish line before you even knew there was a race.
To some degree it's because she feels like exactly that. She's got her nice, peaceful retirement life, and just needs some more money to make sure her parents and grandparents can retire comfortably.

You saw nothing!

Hmm, was there any widespread racism against Umas in the anime?
Not in the anime, no.
In all honesty, there's no way a physically stronger subset of the human species would be discriminated against
Though there probably were cases and places where there is discrimination against them, especially in the past where umas would have been raiders who run in, break stuff and steal things before leaving. On the other hand, given how prevalent horses were throughout human civilization, it probably would end up less discrimination against umas specifically and more whatever group they were a part of.

One aspect that is briefly touched on in this fic is that umas probably warp dating patterns a fair bit, since they are kind of like safe monstergirls, in the sense that they are stronger and tougher than normal human women, and usually more attractive, from what it seems. This lends to them often getting more attention, resources and status, so it is not hard to imagine people resenting them for it, particularly human women who have to compete with umas for romantic interests.

Now granted, the setting never really engages with that, because it's not that kind of franchise, but the implications are fascinating.
One aspect of this is that modern horses are not native to some parts of the world. Some historical contexts, such as the Apache stealing horses from the Spanish, then the Comanche stealing horses from the Apache and learning how to raise, ride, and use them in warfare in expert fashion, has a rather different context when the horses are near-human women. Not to mention the question of, if umas are a sort of variant human, why would certain places populated by humans not have umas? And does umafication apply to donkeys, zebras, etc?

Well the police officer is a case of "no one wants a drunk Elf, they all bloody know magic "!
Basically. Even if most umas aren't malicious, they would be quite difficult to corral when drunk. Then there are those who are actively malicious.

So, does it means that Genghis Khan, regardless of his history, is probably known among the greatest of trainers? One that commanded an army of bloodthirsty 'Nishino Flower' sized Umas?
"There is more food over there."
"Stampede!"
