Video Games General

Elden ring question: I've beaten the game (and malenia) and started a new playthrough focusing on magic. Any staff recommendations? I've heard you can dual weild staffs and if one of them has a passive it applies to your other staff as well. Is this true? And if so, what are some good passives? Last question, is there any good spells I'll need to invest in arcane to meet prerequisites?
Lusat's Staff and the Azur Glinstone Staff are two of the best in the game. For early game, until you can grab either of those, the Meteorite staff is really good for Rock Sling and Gravity spells while the Demi-Human Queen's Staff is good for general use around mid game (I think you need to be at the Altus Plateau to get it) until you get either of the initial staffs. The Carian staffs tend to reduce cast speed and/or mana cost for Carian spells and one of the staffs specifically buffs Carian Slicer (which is a really good close range spell that casts very quickly) and the other sword spells. I consider it one of the better sorcery buffs since you can't always hang back and the damage boost is really good. There's only one sorcery that needs Arcane and that's the Oracular Bubble spell at 18 Arc but it's not super great. Outside a handful that need Faith (Briars and Fire sorceries mostly) it's pretty much just pumping Int and Mind.

That one's actually in the weeping peninsula, in the the demi-human ruins. Unless I'm thinking of a very similar staff. But yeah, thanks for the recommendations. Carian slicer is such a good spell, I'll get that passive.
 
Would'a been nice if we could put the sorcery AoW's on staves though. I'd love to have Carian Grandeur on my scepter.
 
The recent discussion about strategy gamers being too coddled and arrogant at the same time and how strategy games tend to handhold the player to make it possible for them to win gave me sort-of an idea:
Basically, it's a RTS game in the american Civil War where you are the general and a unit on the battlefield. The central idea behind it is Fog of War and delayed information. I made a very rough sketch of it:

The gameplay is basically three layers: The area you can see and consequently issue commands, the area in reach for your messengers (which allows you to see echoes of your units there and issue commands. Better hope the messenger arrives in time.), and the area beyond that which is controlled by your appointed leaders, NCOs and COs alike. I have some rough ideas how this whole thing can play out. For example, you can decide to stay behind on a hill for better overview or you can decide to lead from the front, leaving this whole commanding thing to your other units. Obviously that runs the risk of losing your PC and forces you to restart.
The enemy runs on the same system, meaning that you could for example target their messengers and either kill them or give different orders than what the enemy wanted.

There's stuff like using balloons to uncover the fog of war, issueing horses to your messengers, and I'm sure there's more you can do with that kind of setup.

So, what do you all think? Box-bomb, "the Dark Souls of RTS", or some fresh air in that genre?

So, Staff wise the Meteor Staff you pick up in Caelid is really good and boosts gravity spells. Rock Throw is already really strong and only gets stronger. You can't upgrade it though, but it's more than enough to carry you through the mid game.

After the Meteor Staff, the big choice tends to be between Azur's/Lusat's Staff and the Carian Regal Scepter(Rennala's). Lusat's staff boosts offensive spells but makes them cost more, Azur's makes spells faster but cost more. Rennala's is just big scaling and boosts Full Moon spells(which is like, two spells in the entire game?).

It's mostly a preference thing as to which you use. I like the Carian Regal Scepter more as a generalist tool. I've heard people swear by Lusat's damage buffing, but sorcery is crazy powerful and I don't generally feel the need for the extra damage.

I'm pretty sure the earliest point is after Sae's Casino Palace.

I fucking knew it was going to be a downer ending, which is why I didn't buy it until recently. I was right.

Too busy to notice until now but I saw a crisis core remake and some three kingdoms game with dark souls/sekiro gameplay.
 
For those of you who are fans of the anti-gravity racing genre, specifically F-Zero, I would like to recommend Turbo Force, which is a hidden gem I only recently found. I've noticed that a lot of anti-gravity racers on PC, such as Ballistic NG and Redout, tend to go for having the vehicles handle similar to Wipeout, that is to say somewhat slower and also with more "floaty" handling, in addition to having an emphasis on power-ups and other weapons. Turbo Force however seems to be purely attempting to be a successor to F-Zero, not only in having the vehicles feel faster and with more snappy handling, but also in having a complete lack of any weapons and focusing purely on driving ability, while also merging the boost and health bars together. Hell, the dev even seems to have worked to transfer a number of physics quirks that were more-or-less unique to F-Zero GX, and replicated them in Unity for this game. And that's in addition to the game having both online multiplayer, and a level editor to let you design your own tracks and upload them to the steam workshop.

The game is still currently in alpha, but if you follow the link to the steam page above, you can go and join the playtest which is both totally free, and is active right now. If you're a fan of F-Zero, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
 
NieR: Automata question: Is there anything I need to know to not get fucked over?

Played the game for the first time after work yesterday, beat the 'Goliath' boss in the factory area and got to the weird circle area and saved.

Just checking to see if I need to know before continuing? Like there being a good weapon at the start of the next area or something.

No, you are lucky so far. I think there's a point where you can miss something, but idk rn what that was. Lemme check.

EDIT: Ok, three things:
1. One specific enemy drops an upgrade component that exists only three times per game.
2. One ending is missable if you defeat the corresponding boss before he performs a special action.
3. One quest can end up failing if you rush the main story.
 
Nier Automata update: Got up the the village, being vague because spoilers, and started doing side quests. Nearly stopped playing because of curiosity almost made me lose all of my good chips, went back to a boss arena and got suicide bomber'd but thank fully I save on the way there and just kept reloading to get my stuff back.

Not going there until much later

Finished all but two quests but I just need to turn them in, ignoring the one I clearly need a bunch of money to complete. But otherwise been fishing, grinding mats I needed ATM and upgrading my weapons.

Two questions:

How rare are white animals? I seen like two, killed one and found out how much G the meat goes for.

And how rare is the Iron Pipe? I got in during my third 'fishing trip' in the sewers.

I think it's more a matter of being in the right area and rolling the metaphorical dice enough, but I think the odds of that weapon popping up is fairly high regardless.

There's something else special you can fish up at a certain spot later on (the game actually hints at it if you ask the right NPC the right question), but based on your description I don't think you have access to the right area yet.

Why did you think I refused to get it and have my own headcanon that the series ended at 2? Indi Creates can't stop doing that shit.

Copen in his sidegames get a happier ending than their main characters.

While my opinion on the first is "dunno", I think the second is two pronged. Ultraman fans are again a "no clue", but Monster Rancher fans? When was the last time we got an international release of a new Monster Rancher title (and no, 1&2 DX does not count as "new")? I'm gonna guess that the core MR fanbase will take anything they can get that's half-decent, crossover title or no.

Only if you've never seen bodycam footage. The sound is nowhere near as low (it's pretty fucking load and not entirely good quality) and the video quality is typically slightly lower (and even then you can very much tell this is computer generated). Also the camera positioning tends to make most of the action harder to see it's lower down compared to the head meaning you'll be seeing under the gun not over it.
 
so i've heard a lot about the last sovereign, can someone whose a fan give me the elevator pitch?
debating on giving it a shot next time I have a free day since I found out it's free on steam.
