Memorials series (Cenotaph, Wake, Legacy) by notes is basically THE best worm fanfiction. Writing is amazing, characterization is spot-on and characters who get more attention than canon are done so well people keep assuming that notes's take IS canon. (It's where Quinn Calle being completely unflappable no matter what happens comes from - dude gets stuck on a boat with Burnscar and TALKS HER DOWN). It basically hits that sweet spot of not being a canon retread while being close enough that no one doubts the sequence of events is completely plausible.I am probably gonna push some buttons here, but i never cared for Citizen Kane. Couldn't really get through it. And i've never heard of The Memorials Series. Which is annoying, since i assume it's some kind of book. And if that is the case, then i will have to take a look soon
There's a reason Legacy is two to three chapters per in-universe month where Cenotaph was averaging multiple chapters per in universe day and all of Wake takes place in something like 36 hours.Hey. I can think of worse compliments than being compared to Orson Wells. Tvtropes has a review comparing me to Ang Lee and Kubrick in basically the same breath. Granted... it's in an almost back-handed compliment sort of way, with some 'it's a work of art... the story's so smart that if you're dumb you miss the best parts' undertones in the review.
Yeah, okay... if I'm being honest with myself, it's probably true. I DO get pretty damn cerebral in my storytelling. *Le Sigh*.
I kinda lost interest, myself. The first was interesting and emotional. The second was intense. The third one... well, can't say I'm a fan. He wrote himself into the same corner Wildbow did with Taylor's character... but Wildbow had the sense to timeskip and kill her off, while this is just trudging through the quagmire.
Like scuba diving in a tar pit.
And no, notes hasn't fallen into the same trap. Taylor's gotten horribly anti-social and fucked up, but that doesn't involve reversing a shitton of prior character development and it's pretty clear that notes knows PRECISELY what he's doing with the character. Urban reconstruction politics with superpowers is just fundamentally a much harder thing to write than fight scenes if your name isn't EarthScorpion.
