God ikr? I haven't gotten around to the others yet but I was reading the first one about the father who which was super depressing....up until the quote from the daughter of the guy who assaulted the teenage girl over masks, at which point the article became hilarious:
"I want to be able to go to school like everyone does, but I can't wear a mask. I can't breathe in it, and I want to have that choice," she said.

Yes teenage girl, it sure would suck to not be able to breathe and have no choice about it, it sure would. Man, I can't even imagine what that would be like.

I miss the day when I didn't understand the impulse behind the Herman Cain Award.
I wish I could say I was surprised there have been enough people that died to justify creating a "Darwin Awards except with Plagues", buuuut even if someone were to tell me about that before Covid happened I still wouldn't be surprised.

gee i wonder why millennials et all are so jaded and depressed

Well this is the sort of sobering shit I don't ever need to see.

Highlight:
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the health-care sector has lost nearly half a million workers since February 2020. Morning Consult, a survey research company, says that 18 percent of health-care workers have quit since the pandemic began, while 12 percent have been laid off.

Between all that have been laid off or quit, thats 30% of the health care workers. Fuck.
Hard to blame them. Conditions were already shit for front line workers with how ungodly entitled people can be, but now with all of this anti-science, anti-medicine, anti-vaccine bullshit going around it's even worse.

Lives have been threatened. I wouldn't want to be a nurse right now.

That only covers those who quit out their own will, though, not those who were laid off right when the field needs more workers.

Some of the lay-offs were probably people who refused to get vaccinated.

Not sure what proportion specifically, but I can't fault that proportion of layoffs.

How viable would declaring Martial Law in order to prevent any more infections be?

AFAICT that didn't work so well in China. You can probably find other dictatorships which have externally published statistics (i.e. from the WHO or some other UN agency) to see if one of them did a martial law declaration, and what the effect was.

I think the problem with martial law is that you suppress the information which you need to deal with the problem, and some assholes always find their way around the travel restrictions.

https://www.npr.org/sections/corona...ope-with-life-in-a-pandemic-a-new-study-finds
While the World Health Organization recommended that people avoid too much COVID-related media for the benefit of their mental health, our research reveals that memes about COVID-19 could help people feel more confident in their ability to deal with the pandemic,
That is right, scientists recommended looking at memes to make you feel better. Literally. I am not making this up.

Although it should be noted that "The type of meme matters, too: People who viewed memes featuring cute babies or baby animals were overall less likely to think about the pandemic or the effects it has had on them." So try to keep nihilistic memes to a minimum, for best results.

I'm sorry but how did you misread your own quote?

It specifically says the WHO are the ones saying don't look at Corona memes, while the people who collaborated for this study are the ones recommending you do look at memes to reduce stress against the WHO advice.

I just reread the article, and yeah, you are right. My bad. I edited my post in response.

I was talking to some acquaintances, and the subject of COVID vaccination came up. I asked one of them if they were vaccinated, and discovered they were an anti-vaxxer. This was somewhat of a shock for me.

I have heard of these people on the news, and even seen one or two on the forums, but never encountered one IRL.
