Since this is now mostly about what character I'd like to pilot skilltree-wise and not which I'd like to exist at all, this decision becomes much simpler.
In a less gamist universe, I'd be all over probability
manipulation as a power, but when you're throwing dice and dealing critical hits, It kind of takes some fun out of finding neat ways to profit from unlikely things happening.
Du is in the uncomfortable valley between warrior and artificer that produces Sword Magic, which I dislike.
We just recently did big tough smashes-through-obstacles warrior, and fight scenes are always more rewarding than mechanical contemplation with those types anyway.
I like summoners, but that's mostly for the interaction between summoner and summon and not for any reason intrinsic to the skillset. yrsillar has done those sorts of relationship quite a few times, and the spectre of character bloat still looms on the horizon.
I love kill-rewarding, life draining, debuffing, and otherwise creepy-ass skillsets. I want to see the skill tree. I want to hug the skill tree.
Also a significant part of this decision: Shadow has a backstory that we won't know OOC, a starfriend who we can't hear as another character, very good reasons to not tell people about the previous two things, and enemies who will otherwise likely be dealt with offscreen. We won't get the full experience as an observer.
