Is 5D bad? or just lesser than what came before?
It is a reboot that claimed to be otherwise

The anarchs welcomed the Followers of Set who are the local equivalent of Slaanesh cultists

The Deep State know about vampires and are willing to drone strike them inside the city

A bunch of people are racebent or said to be older (physically) than they were without altering their backstories and forgetting to change the dates of their birth and embrace

They released an outright ERP book that is poorly written

V5 is a product of it's time. It tries to ape what came before but the devs don't really get it, as it was back when VtM was made.

That doesn't mean it's a bad game, or that it's unplayable. But it's not the same experience.

I actually like hunger dice, for instance, over the blood pool mechanic. Though it does turn the thirst for blood, functionally, into a drug addiction. I don't like how poorly it scales past a street level game.

Some of the new lore is very millennial. And I don't think they actually get that VtM is basically the Mafia LARPing as vampires for the Cam, even the clans that aren't Giovanni; and only slightly less organized street gangs with pretensions of philosophy in the Anarchs. That no matter how you skin the cat, you are still regularly physically, arguably sexually, assaulting someone just to continue living. That you are a toxic, abusive, manipulative predator. That you are a monster and it takes concerted effort to try and be as non-monstrous as you can. I'm also unsure if they know how to make a badguy/badguy faciton who isn't either 'actually 100% in the right and twice as sympathetic as the pc' or 'NAZI-flavoured [x]'

I'd say overall, it's probably not quite as good, but definitely different, than older editions. If I was being fair. I do know that most of everything after the Sabbat book is pretty garbo, and the Sabbat book isn't too good either.

But Humble Bundle means you get it for suuuuuuuper cheap, plus Hunter (which is apparently very good even if it didn't get imbued) and W5 (Which I hear is pretty close to actual dogshit compared to older versions) core iirc.

You'll probably rather play V20 with apropos supplements, truth be told. And maybe cherry pick a few things from V5.

Hunters 5E is shit because it gets rid fo the ability to play organizationally based hunters at all. and W5 shouldn't even be considered a werewolf game.

You probably heard Hunter the Vigil of now basically abandoned Chronicles of Darkness. H5 is basically described as the most milquetoast experience across all hunters. With only it's art getting some praise.

In fact, someone give me this funny example.
HTR aka Reckoning is like a waffle house. It can have crazy toppings and creams. But more you add to it, the more messy it gets.
HTV aka Vigil is like a bakery. You can find all sorts of things from breads to croissant to cakes.

H5 is just bread. A plain bread with a few condiments you can use.

*someone mentions 5e*
*everyone gets angry*
classic

5E is like the new Star Wars, new company is in control and they now nitpick what they want from the old canon and what not, There is some cool stuff in the new things (loresheets, hunger dice) but there are (imo) most of it are stinkers and overall it's just less than what we had before.

One trend I noticed is that about all the people I have talked to that actually like playing 5e gave me the same answer when asked about V20: "Oh I never played V20" meaning they were either new player, or people that just got the books but never actually played game, so I guess if you are new to the game and don#T know what you are missing out on you can enjoy 5E.

V5's retconnomicon continues this time for its own stuff

V5: Uhhh, The Vampire Hunter's cover story for the Vienna chantry blowing up was Hungarian Fascists

Me:….What now? Why can't you people just say gas leaks and faulty electrical wiring or something?

Wasn't it always like that? I vaguely remember it being labeled a "terrorist attack" to the public, when it first came up.

Regardless of their misperceptions, however, the IAO, BOES, and ESOG Team X did in fact destroy the Prime Chantry in 2008 with an as-yet-unknown combination of holy relics and ground-penetrating ordnance. The site of the "terrorist atrocity" has remained cordoned off since then, and the SI keeps a permanent bureaucratic presence in the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in the city.
Camarilla Sourcebook p. 82
This at least implies that the cover story was some sort of terrorist attack.

The Hungarian part is the new part
If beforehand it was called a terrorist attack and now they say it was Hungarian Fascists blowing it up, this doesn't really sound like retcon to me, more like they are specifying what kind of terrorist are getting blamed.

(That said Hungarian Fascists? Really? Come on that may be one of the most stupid cover stories ever)

My incredulity is primarily at The Hungarian Fascists part.

Why would Hungarian Fascist Terrorists target anything in Vienna? Like. They would be pretty tied up in Hungary.

Seriously, with how many things IRL just fall out of the news cycle after the initial surge "pending investigation," everyone watsonianly and doylistically could've just carried on. 👏👏👏 hands are clean and dry, we done.

But nooooooooo.

There are other plot holes that need actual filling, I'm sure.

Yes, but not something of that size, it's not like they attacked one building, there were attacks on multiple building all over the city at the same time. This would be the biggest terrorist attack ever.
The news reported explosions throughout the city, but it would be more accurate to call them quakes or disintegrations. I never saw flames in any footage, just buildings collapsing rapidly.
Pretty sure that after an attack of that size you want to have someone you can blame publicly.

(P.S. Please don't ask me how the SI did that, to this day the fall of Vienna Chantry makes no fucking sense me)

Depending on the sort of Fascist there are all sorts of reasons, it could be attacks on exile hungarians or something like that. They could also be "monarchist" that want the reunification of Hungary and Austria to the Austrian-Hungary empire (but this time under Hungarian leadership) or something similarly stupid they are fascist terrorist who the hell knows what would go on in those peoples mind.

The question would be, how would Hungarian Fascist have the resources to make a coordinate strike of that size? But than again we know that it's not true and that is just a cover story.

Stupidest thing it's not even a plot hole to begin with. "News said terrorist attack" was enough, nobody asked for more information. But now that they said it was by Hungarian Fascist everyone is like "really? that is what the cover story is? Nobody would believe that" so they create a problem out of something that was okay beforehand.

Now I'm not saying that there is a political agenda behind that, but Hungary (or to be more specific the Hungarian government) is know to be far-right (for European standards). But honestly can't think of anything else as to why they would specifically used "hungarian fascist".
