Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Yeah like I posted before, the Rebellion isn't finding any sort of support in this system. At all.

The moderates will lay low and use it to funnel parts and supplies to their fleet, but that's as far as it can go. If any mad nutters like Saw show up and begin terror campaigns, the populace aren't going to turn a blind eye to it. Not when they have it so good.

  1. Politics: the council voting system I cooked up was a rush job, and upon further inspection kinda shit, as it overwhelms voters with teams from the boonies that will never get voted for, due to cities' overwhelming advantages in population . Obviously, there is no perfect political system, but any advice/recommendations regarding a voting system and the greater council system will be taken into consideration. However, please keep the discussion civil, cause I've seen some stories with 2 chapters get locked cause people couldn't stop yapping for five fucking minutes.
  2. Expansion: Where should the MC go from here? Should he slow things down, speed things up, get down low or make a big splash? There are many paths, and I want to know your opinions.
  3. Military: Assuming the Minda System recovers from this attack easily in the near future, and gains a minimum of 50 million credits to spend on ships, attack craft, etc… along with the manpower to crew them, what fleets would you build? How would you organize the defense and trade fleets of the Minda System? This is a hypothetical, because there is a damn good chance the MC never gets there, but theoretical fleet building is fun. What dangers might said fleet encounter in the future? These kinds of questions are fun to answer, so go ham.
  4. Allegiance: While I already more or less have a plan for how the MC will steer the Minda system allegiance wise(Empire/Rebel/Republic/Pentastar/Independent, etc…) I want to know what direction you think he should lean and why. Anything from moral arguments to pushing profit margins, who should he side with, and why?

1. Zoning based on population density or industry. Example: Concentric rings like a bullseye, with the outer rings being wider. Or a similar zoning setup where agricultural communities are grouped, mining communities grouped, etc. - not sure how feasible that is with how limited 'survey' details are currently.

2. This planetary system is currently his only true powerbase. While keeping favor with his nominal subjects is important, he is also clearly invested in a personal escape plan. To further that motive, he should be funneling at least some of the funded research - which currently implies a pursuit of the creation of new products (and games?) - towards physical modifications along the lines of plastic surgery or other means of disguise. Or maybe he can just buy a bio-mask he already knows about. Tourism is an industry he should avoid, both because he's out in the metaphorical boonies, and because he doesn't want the attention. I can't recall what was said about the potential for agriculture, of course if there is any he should pursue it to support the growing population. Otherwise he should be setting up manufacturing hubs and creating some kind of office of infrastructure to build out the cities and transportation networks he'll need for the (hopefully) local manufacturing industries all that mining will create. (Which will hopefully end up implementing advancements and designs made by his research team.)

3. Stealth ships. In episode 1 Darth Maul's Scimitar was a prototype. After decades there's bound to be at least some trickle-down that's made it a little ways into the military. Then again, might be that imperial agents keep that stuff under lock and key. Then again (again), might be an interesting story beat for the MC to have to get in touch with his imperial agent sister who's almost certainly kept him in her periphery.

4. From a character perspective, he doesn't seem to care about either side. The snippet of his backstory has shown a lack of imperial fervor, and supporting the rebels (intentionally, at least) seems to be the furthest thing from his mind - in this case, he is only out for himself. While I do find it amusing when characters stumble into positions of incredible favor completely unintentionally (or even against their intentions, ala Tanya Degurechaff), it would be nice to have a few more indicators on how the MC feels about the major factions and whether he has any greater motivations beyond his own survival.

Really liking all the little guys' growing pride for the empire.

To me Minda 2 sounds like a great place to create resort planet.

Hi there, just wanted to toss this out before the next chapter. Mostly just here to give both myself and all y'all a concise list of Las's military forces for easy reference. Will try to update this as the story progresses, but feel free to remind me if I seem to have forgotten.

As always, constructive criticism regarding my writing, and in the case of this post, especially my lore-accuracy, along with ways to move the story forward are always welcome.

Thanks for reading!

Something to note for short crew availability but high budget. The IPV-1 is a fast anti pirate pursuit vessel with minimum crew of 2 but ideally 12 making a very crew efficient patrol craft for anti piracy patrol, so effective the pirates steal/ buy them to patrol and protect their own bases with them. (there is IPV-4(correction the ADZ is what i am thinking of here apparently)later down the timeline around or after endor designed with crew shortages in mind to run with 2 crew under ideal conditions. Allowing for much more fleet power with less trained crewman. Wiki doesn't have much if anything on it though)
This is much less crew intense than almost anything else for the fleet power. Crusader class Corvettes amd CR90s need around 50-80 crew. So if you have the cash and not the men. Buy these boys in bulk. I personally love crusader class forr fast corvettes (class 1 hyperdrives too)and lancer frigate for anti starfighter escort of larger craft or protection of stations etc . But in pure low manpower available scenario where i need high fleet power to personnel usage, IPV is one of the best bangs for you pilot outside of a bunch of Tie defenders and a lot easier to acquire. I'm both surprised to see thee ARC 170s and also happy to see them in a more suitable role for them. Scouting in the boonies likely alone or in a squadron m only concern is their high maintenance and crew meeds as it uses 2-3 crewman per starfighter instead of one. But its really got a chance to shine in the outer rim scoyting and piracy fighting. Albeit it's not an a wing interceptor. It's a high maintenance all rounder capable of running off alone for long periods of time scoutinf for threats and has enough tools to fight fighters or do light bombing runs. Hmmm

Wait, but DP20s does not have escape pods? This is basically flying coffin if ship get smoked. Experienced crew is much more expensive than ship, just like jet fighter pilots.
They have good shields for their size, and ridiculously large engines, they are pretty survivable, specially if used with some care. They also have a crew of only 91 officers and gunners (who all better be very close friends with how cramped the thing is). Crew wise, even without escape pods, it's likely to be cheaper to keep than something like the dreadnought class cruiser, even considering the numbers involved.

If he can institute a pseudo militia system, and some minor training of naval personnel in system to supplement the crews, he can also make it quite cheaper to keep operational, specially if kept to system defense.

IPV-1s are another option but not only they'd need to be tugged to the system, they are less heavily armed and more expensive then the DP20. Good to avoid poaching from the navy though.

A viable alternative could be more of the CR90 line (including the CR92 Assassin), modified to be more combat focused. It's more of a patrol craft, to be fair, but it works well enough, even if they are versatile enough to be at greater risk of poaching.

Also, not to forget, many squadrons of fighters, ideally something more survivable than ties, because the pilots for those unshielded death traps get expensive fast if you're not the navy. X-Wings are legitimately and unironically a good option. Can likely even make some money on the side of you're willing to supply the legitimate business on the asteroid belt with a few for a premium. :p

Either way, remember, the point is to defend against pirates and opportunistic raiders, he's not going to be able to build enough to actually fight against the big players, there he's going to have to play politics and careful straddling of the line, while keeping unimportant enough that neither side become too offended by the lack of his total support.

Honestly a small part of me wants Las to get a Lucrehulk for a capital ship. Most of the big imperial ships are usually taken out by elite fighters or by bigger ships so the Lucrehulk can have a super heavy shielding, provid heavy anit fighter for the long range ships and act as a super carrier. Also it can have its excessive space refitted into a fighter repair bay, and maybe have a powerful radar/scanner or something installed so it can be a very capable command ship.

Who would've thought treating your people good would instill fanatic patriotism in the populace and make them rabidly fight to protect their home? Certainly none of the current or defunct galactic governments did.
Define treating them good, because the population of Midna is receiving something comparable to what most Republic-era citizens got, and those people were certainly not fanatically patriotic. More likely the people who choose to go to a backwater to get away from the Empire are primed to latch on to the first bit of stability they encounter.

In the core this would be normal treatment even under the empire. Issue is they're not in the core. Rim worlders for the most part have only known suffering and pain from the core. When they get a core worlder that treats them like they live in the core worlds? Well they will both remember and appreciate that.

An idea for the governor could be hiring Chelli Lona Aphra or another treasure hunter to dig up locations on old separatist bases or clone wars battle sites.

With the expanded fleet the governor could send out ships to those locations to see if there's anything to loot like droids, weapons, droid foundries or vehicle factories at larger bases and even possibly ships.

Could even have those locations be in the trade fleets routes back to Minda.

Keep in mind that your favorite ships approaching ISD levels are going to get poached or you will within the next 10 years be unable to source spare parts. So plan on it being a giant paper weight or orbital station.

None of the Remaining Imperial Admirals will care about anything not ISD or associated types. (Excluding Thrawn).

You know with the lack of long term fleet repair and part sourcing a lot of you are showing I am really tempted to do an omake of him having a magnificent collection of ISDs and such (having spent all his money). Then being told his mother said to give them to his sister who would be an admiral in the navy and requisition them to fight in the war. With the MC crying about how his sister is always taking his toys and ending with "No not My Monieeee!!!!"

Well dam dice say no.

I think you guys are focusing on the wrong thing militarily. We've already seen the Tie/D, so introducing its direct counter - the missile boat - is the correct course of action

You can make discount missile boats by taking any YT-equivalent light freighter, strapping on 4 missile launchers that have magazines capable of holding hundreds of missiles or torps, and upgrading its avionics to support that. Get a squadron of 20 or so, and for a fairly modest initial cost you have something capable of punching way, way, above its weight class.

Probably fairly expensive to restock ordnance after a fight, but I would bet it's still cheaper in the long run than keeping a capital ship running.

Fairly important question before you decide on your fleet composition. Are you making the Zan Consortium canon in your story? That could cause a lot of issues with some of the planned fleet build outs if it is.

Missiles have always been in short supply in Star Wars where do you plan to get them sourced from when the Empire collapses. If you want to go this route you really need to get a local missile Or torpedo factory set up.

I think the problem for alignment is that the Minda system up to be a empire loyalist system as the people of minda will see symbol of the empire building them new live and giving prosperity, protect them from pirate raids are stormtroopers and the imperial navy, that a hard mind set that will install a much more "FOR THE EMPIRE" then "for the rebellion/Republic" approach from his population.

And let say you get you stay loyal are boy could possibly become a major figure for the imperial Remnants and would be in a position to grow those remnant into a more progressive and safe society (even if he has to deal with a planetary massive amount of paper work)

And to be honest I haven't read a empire loyalist story in a very long time it aways goes they were secretly a rebellion loyalist and would just like some stormtroopers, ISD broadsiding and armoured chicken walking si story.

But that in the end is up to you my dear author can't wait for more

Maybe see if there's a gas giant either in system or in a star system close by. Then survey it for various useful gases such as tibanna. Even if the tibanna concentration is low, having the ability to mine/refine some tibanna locally would make the MC's star system / cluster more secure. After all tibanna is used in a lot of things, especially blasters.

TftC!

Lolayty to the system and the government will be over loyalty to the empire for many, like the clones and new colitis that are moving in they have sen rest of the empire.

I found this video about voting methods interesting, especially the approval voting method (starting at minute 19)

As for the PDF's army I would go with the Finnish model. A small active-duty army supplemented with a large reserve component built around a culture of individual responsibility in the maintaining military readiness.

Politics: Would love to see a successful defense being accompanied by tracking the pirate group back to a major base in the sector, rallying an attack against it with other systems in the sector, the result being a parade or acknowledgement from the sector authorities that makes his entrance into sector politics as well as greater popularity for Minda driving more immigration. Eventually, becoming a significant figure in sector security

Expansion: Domestic focus on Minda continuing development, maybe a new neighbouring system being discovered and him being a temporary governor for it as well since it is uninhabitable but resource-rich, accompanied by said shift in literary focus to the sector politics. Maybe establishment of a production facility for a vital resource in the post-empire outer rim like shipyards or fighter production (Tie-D link via his sister and the unsuitability of Lothal for the program?)

Military: Tying in with successful defense against the pirates and possible destruction of their home base, Minda expands their anti-pirate squadrons. Based around imperial Arquitens-class and anti-escort/fighter duty, no need for ISDs.

Allegiance: imperial for now, sticking with the established narrative that Outer Rim security was abandoned by the Republic and avoiding further war/chaos is the priority. Becoming a powerful voice in the sector with the destruction of the second death star, maybe the sector Moff flees to the core or follows Operation Cinder and our protag uses his influence to step in for the sector or else prevent Cinder. Then, narrative of imperial abandonment as the Rebellion starts its takeover, the sector becomes quite independent and as the New Republic struggles to rebuild, protag becomes a local leader of the sector or multiple sectors. Basically, toe the line and make connections, maintain a "what's best for Minda/my sector" attitude, and setting up his foundation for the post-empire fragmentation of the galaxy.

No reelection at all is a bad idea, it means there is never going to be an incumbent. It's always going to be a feeding frenzy.

I'd consider 10-12 years as the max, adjusted based on the term of the office. You'd want an upper and lower house as well. One based per region, the other based on population.

Also, make sure that the terms do not all line up so everyone is up for reelection at once. For example, the reason why the US system works the way it does with a two year term for the house is the entire house is up for reelection every two years to ensure that it's closely in tune with the desires of the population, while the senate with it's six year terms is less dynamic and more able to focus on longer term policy decisions, while it's six year terms are divided by 3 house elections.

This way the lower house is extremely dynamic while the upper hose is comparatively stable.

Expansion: Where should the MC go from here? Should he slow things down, speed things up, get down low or make a big splash? There are many paths, and I want to know your opinions.

Start effectively assimilating the surrounding systems. Set up a couple colonies, start patrol and resource extraction. He should be looking to fund his own little empire within the empire. Also, consider going to the core city worlds to look for immigrants. There are people in the mid levels who would give their right arms for a chance to get out. Set up a regular patrol route from Corillia and Coruscant and people will be happy to get the fuck out of the squalor... Just set up a dedicated people mover transport going back and forth from the worlds you're advertising on. And you wouldn't even need to put much into it. The population density is so inside a couple thousand posters would probably produce tens of thousands of immigrants.

You want to Channel some serious New Colossus energy.

Frankly he could probably set up deals with other worlds in the region to also help them expand their populaiton bases or even make suggestions to sector moffs to increase prestige and influence. And believe me, the imperial authority on Coruscant would probably just listen to the idea and go "SHUT UP AND TAKE OUR POPULATION!", he might even be able to get MONEY out of it. Because frankly, putting those people and getting their mouths off of the capital would be INVALUABLE.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Another trick is to outright just buy slaves... and then manumit them.

That would literally buy their undying loyalty, esp if he makes it a policy to buy FAMLIES.

Imagien the rection of a people who have been stolen from thier homes and sold as chattle, when they see the imperial fucker who now owns them stand before them, thinking they're about to get sent to the mines, to the planetations, of if they're really, really lucky they'll have the "honor" of being his latest sex pest when he looks at them and says "Welcome to Las Mola. We do not tolorate slavery here. You are free." and then their guards remove thier bindings and deactivate their slave chips...

Some would save up to leave, but they'd basically sing his praises across the galaxy, but in the meantime they'd provide labor and taxes to do it, Meanwhile others would become insanely loyal and would gleefully consider this world their city on the hill.

A Gladiator-class Star Destroyer as a flagship costs 36,000,000 credits, less if you buy used. Buy one as a flagship and use it to patrol the region. And don't get TIE series fighters for it. If you want to keep to imperial hardware, pick up Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wing Assault Gunboats. They cost 135k new, 75k used, making them comparable in cost to an Xwing with the added benefit of not being a Rebel fighter and already being in the imperial procurement chain. It's a little bit heavier and not as quick (90 v 100), but the maneuverability is very close with the star wing actually being hair more agile (75 vs 78), with much better shields (50 vs 100) and somewhat better armor (20 vs 28), it also ha a mixed armiment (2 laser/2 ion cannons) and more than twice the missile load meaning it's basically sits in the sweet spot between an X-wing and a Y-wing: Agile enough to dogfight well (though not one of the galaxy's premere space superiorty fighters) with the added benefits of decent shielding, flexible guns, a reasonable price tag, and the ability to mount 16! concussion missiles or 12! Proton Torpedos.

Lets just say that if the Empire was using them in place of the TIE series the rebellion would have been turbo-fucked.

Take full advantage of that and STOCK THE FUCK UP MOTHERFUCKER!

Along those lines I'd suggest a Quasar Fire (1,750,000) and a couple more Clone Wars era Aquatens at 4,000,000 each. The Aquatens are fantastic escorts and you already have one.

To get the equipment cheap, I'd go for taking advantage of the most Soviet of Imperial factors... graft. Buy them off the back of a transport. Abuse your characters name and family connections.

Play both sides. The Rebels are ultimatly in the right, but if he can suborn a large enough segment of the remnant and then push the Rebellion to come to an equitable and negotiated middleground, he could gain immense power. Esp if he has a reputation for being the Imperial Oskar Schindler.

My two cents.

Politics:
  • I could see other worlds wanting to get in on the prosperity. Especially if they control a shipyard.
  • Imp -> Penta "Independent" w/shipyard -> Independent; best in terms of not getting visited by the ISB
Expansion:
  • Ship manufacturing. Ship manufacturing supply chain (supply network). Ship manufacturing logistics (physical distribution). See Kuat, Loronar, Corellia, Mandalore, Bilbringi, Corellia, Neimoidia, ... This will make a planet "independent" and be important to play nice with to get access to these vital facilities.
  • At this current moment other worlds may want a "nice" and successful governor rather than what ever they have, but that is a hard pull. But, a world with a shipyard and good management, I want in, so easy pull in worlds.
  • On that note Rothana/Kuat seem to be focusing on B2B and Gov. contracts like say compared to Corellia which is dominated by its civilian production. The raw materials and basic might be easier to get from Corellia and the specialty military hardware parts from Rothana/Kuat.
Military:
  • A general expansion in the military. Avoid heavy hitters like ISDs. Acclimators are fairly easy to slot or refit into a lot of roles and are fast. Acclimators seem to be during this time relegated to outer rim areas.
  • Space is big. Take a look at alternatives to the ISD in the beginning to act as expeditionary mobile bases (ESB). ISDs are very heavy on supply chains and were often given minimal resupplies. Hence why they were easy to take down.
  • See about trying to get a Dual Hemisphere-Omni Support Vessel or Lucrehulk-class LH-3010/3210 cargo freighter these can help in developing supply chains and act as good supply ships. There are so few examples. Hoersch-Kessel ion drives are "prevalent throughout the [Palpatine's] Empire, and most starshipwrights included Hoersch-Kessel-style motors into their products." Hoersch-Kessel seems like a good company at the start to developed domestic manufacturing of foreign parts, especially with them being on the outs and still being around right now. The problem with supplying the bigger Lucrehulk would be scale of operations rather than anything unique about it.
Allegiance:
  • Again; Imp -> Penta -> Independent; best in terms of not getting visited by the ISB

Hmm... do you guys think that Vader will look at the Clonetroopers kicking pirate/slaver ass again, then decide to investigate? I think the Clonetroopers getting holonet videos kicking pirate ass will encourage more of those Clone Wars Clone troopers to settle in Minda. Some of them might decide to join the planetary militia, while saving up to own a plot of land / farm / business.

TftC!
Honestly, Vader would only come if palpatine gets paranoid about our boy the governor recruiting all these clones. And since this a backwater system I don't think it's too likely.

I would be likely that thrawn comes.

While a Telgorn shipyard would be nice, crawl before you run. setting up localized manufacture of parts, light vehicles, and small arms would be a good idea to start and grow from there.

That is why a specified the supply chain part.
You would be surprised how many people have no idea about what that is.

We have required reading in freshmen college classes of "I, Pencil". It's a great short story/essay about how no one person can possess the intellectual knowledge and infrastructure necessary to make a single pencil by themselves. It emphasizes the point of the interconnected economy and extensive supply chains necessary to maintain modern society.

Now scale that up to a galaxy sized economy and millions more parts, processes, and products. You could literally not fit all the required parts to be completely self sufficient inside his current solar system (he is missing gas giants for gas extractions). Better off to focus on the components necessary to build the industrial tools to make the tools needed to build enough to keep food, mining, and power going (manufacturing base already covered). Everything else can be built up from these basic needs.

Also, see if you can't wrangle a backup data center (complete blueprints and how to guide) which covers all the parts needed to maintain and build from first principles, all these tools and components, hyperdrives, ships, and weapon systems. This might come in handy depending on how the galactic civil war goes.

Edit: something to consider. There are going to be a lot of space battles ripe for salvage in the comming years. If you have enough hyperspace capable tugs you stand to make a killing on collecting a lot of ships that can be repaired, mothballed, or scrapped for parts for other ships. Most of these battlefields remained fairly intact during the New Republic era. Something to consider, why buy 1 ISD when you can buy the tugs and "recover" several hundred ships over the course of the war.

Edit 2: Omake roll for "Emperor's s"Slightly Used Spaceships." Dam 5 off. I may re-roll this later depending on what he actually buys. Welp Dice say that is a definite no.

It is a story about imperial si, wich, as alot of people already said before, a rare thing. A sight for sore eyas. I think everyone would like for it to stay that way. Imperial, imperial remnant, pentastar, maybe semi independent, untill pentar star formed .

As for ships, not sure, but in games i would alway went for faction unity. That thing, assassin corvets looks too much rebel to my taste, even if it is a great ship. So imperial themed ships? Even if out there is a better non imperial looking alternative like Venators and luckrehalks, caraks and assassin corvets, moroders etc, etc.

Yes,yes. Those are used in imperial service, but they don't look edgy and imperial!
