Officer Kim
"I was able to get a lead on some drugs..."
Suburu looked up.
"Really?"
"Yes."
I pulled out a map with red X's.
"I've been watching the seven stars, for months now."
Subaru sighed.
"Working off shift."
I shrugged.
"Crime doesn't take a break so neither do I sir."
My boss chuckled.
"Ok...yeah I'm looking at this and it makes sense....let's do it."
"Sir?"
"You have always been a strait shooter kim, and your advice on the boat worked out so..I'm in..if we pull this off, I will have enough power to get you a promotion of sorts."
"Like what, sir?"
"There's a couple rookies moving down the pipe, I need someone to show them the ropes and though I'm supposed to use japanese officers for that..."
He sighed.
"They're...they're honestly just terrible. I want to instill some good habits in my officers. at the very least not have them act like a gang and ask for protection money."
"That happens?"
Subaru closed his eyes, his hands clenching.
"Happening? I've been trying to fire Moto over it for months now. Far as I'm concerned he deserves to be inside a prison cell, not wearing a badge. I think it's gotten to the point where I've given up on most of them Kim."
He opened his eyes.
"We need to start fresh, get some new blood in, train them up right and make sure that the bad apples don't spoil the bunch....also."
He looked at me with guilt.
"Yes?"
"I need a favor. You're good at your job and we both want to clean up the department. My gut tells me that the department is compromised."
I took in a breath.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean...I think some of my officers are working for other people, giving out information. The gangs, the army, the navy, the communists, the facists, even even the god damned Jayu. You're the only one I trust, keep this under your hat but..help me uncover them."
"There will be push back."
"I know...but if we're able to clean out the department then its worth it."
I nodded.
"I have your back sir."
"Thank you Kim.."
I heard a crashing sound. Both of us went to the window, outside we saw army and naval men fighting in the streets. Suburu narrowed his eyes and went to the phone.
"Break it up."
He slamned down the phone and looked at me.
"Sir?"
"It's been happening all over the damned city. The navy's blockading the port just to spite the army. It's insane."
"So they're fighting?"
"Over who gets the credit for the golem. And it's not just here, there has been fights all over town. At this rate they're not going to have a choice but to either act like adults and share credit or try to transport the thing through the mountains."
"I'm sure our men in uniform can handle this sir."
Subaru shook his head.
"Have you seen the army? They're staffed with crazy meatheads and the mountains are crawling with Jayu. You might as well just give the damned thing to them."
"Maybe we can help?"
Subaru's eyes opened wide.
"No..."
"Sir."
"No! this is an order do not involve yourself in this nonsense. These are not sane, rational, people Kim. The army, the navy....it's like they have gone crazy and it's just getting worse and worse. Stay out of whatever nonsense they have going."
"Do you honestly call this drama nonsense?"
"I am. If the military didn't have nonsense they wouldn't have any sense at all. Stay safe..and we will prepare for the raid."
