No. That's not what the problem is. He's treating it like we are playing on a harder difficulty and that Ruby and them are going to be facing opponents they really shouldn't. Heck Alex himself covered it.

It's also right here on this page. Have a quote.

Also, I want to say:
-This isn't Creation, this is DxD. With all that the genre entails.
-If Issei lets Ruby and/or Yang fight the like of Kokabiel, he's doing something horribly wrong. The point of underlings is for them to fight opponents on their own levels, leaving the enemy powerhouses to the leader, AKA Issei.

This is Easy mode: I'm not going to throw you vicious curveballs unless you massively screw up. If this was another mode, then sure, but you chose Easy because you wanted to enjoy the quest without too much meta-gaming, right?
The stuff he thinks is going to happen isn't unless we really fuck up.

Alex has "covered it" in two separate posts. He's also said that Raiser and friends are going to be a lot harder than Raynare and if we're not prepared for him we'll get our shit kicked in.

He also said he's not going to through us vicious curveballs unless we really screw up. Not picking up some more combat charms and other useful things can count as screwing up.

Alex isn't the kind of GM to use the slightest mistake to fuck you over. You just have to look at the other quests he has run to see that.

Judging from the posts so far both Ivory Pestle and Titan Felling have their good points. Just decide which one you want to teach first. As I see it:

Ivory Pestle: the style that Ruby will use for non-lethal takedowns against humans and the like.
Titan Felling: the style that Ruby will use to defeat (kill) inhuman monsters.

Needless to say she will face both in the future if she wants to be a Heroine of Justice. So just decide what she needs to learn first.

Ruby :[X] Titan Felling first , then Ivory Pestle .

I chose the lethal option first after considering our coming opponents .

Next up is Raiser and his peerage . To be more specific it's asshole!Raiser and his peerage who will support him all the way . Considering we are allied to the house of Gremory , our fight is likely to take place in a controlled environment similar to the Rating Games to prevent deaths . If Ruby does get dragged into this , she can let loose with Titan Felling without worrying about her opponents .

Next up is Kokabiel . whatever allies he gathers should be put down hard without worrying about non lethal take downs .

After that there is the Old-Maou faction , who are , again , not the type of people we want to take down non lethally .

By the time we have to face people that we don't want to kill like Vali's squad , humans from Hero-Brigade , human magicians etc. , we should be able to get Ruby started on Ivory Pestle .

I can't speak for the mechanics behind Titan Felling but Ivory Pestle will be very useful regardless of our opponents if we can get Ruby up to the third or fourth charm. The value of an ability to disarm an enemy of their sacred gear cannot be overestimated when about half of our opponents use them.

[X] Explain both styles. Give her the choice of which to learn first.

Ruby: [X] Ivory Pestle first, then Titan Felling

Aaand...stop with the votes. Let me count...

Final Tally (results are absolute):

[X] Flaw: Ward 2 [Harem] (two girls who have a romantic relationship with Issei will be selected randomly at the start of every month In-Game)
[X] Merit: Selective Conception and Common Sense

Yang:
[X] First Pulse Style

Mittelt:
[X] Ivory Pestle Style

Asia:
[X] Thaumaturgy
-[X] Alchemy

Ruby:
[X] Ivory Pestle will be taught first. Ruby will be informed of both styles and later there will be the possibility of learning Titan Felling.

[] Flaw: Ward 2 [Harem] (two girls who have a romantic relationship with Issei will be selected randomly at the start of every month In-Game)

This I like.

It rotates & its limited to our active harem.

Eagerly awaiting update.

I like that as well as not the same 2 people will always cause us problems and we get to clean up personal problems hopefully before we get insta-gibbed.

It's an incentive to have a balanced harem. Only training Yang or Ruby & then having Asia walk into trouble will keep us on our toes.

I thought it was just going to be the two girls we have living with us currently?

Things changed now its everyone who can be inside our 'Harem' which is currently Asia and Miltilt but, will grow to when ever we get more.

more like "he's assuming things are going to be super difficult, so he's metagaming without shame" like you have to in some of the worse quests in SB, where you need to act blatantly OOC and use meta knowledge simply to survive.

I don't think it's needed, and i feel that it detracts from the story.

granted, if he'd said something like "it has great disarm charms later on" or something, i might have gone for it, but all i know about each style is that one is specifically suited to working with a scythe, and one used staves (and ruby can use the latter if she uses her Scythe as a staff, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a scythe)

basically, i was voting for theme/aesthetics, SH was voting for combat efficiency.

Vote's closed. Let us admit that each side had its good points and move on.

You know one encounter I'd like to see for the random Ward trouble?

Yang & Ruby are being held up by the police for Truancy. Not for holding a weapon or anything, just that they aren't attending school & don't have enough social fu to talk themselves out of it.

Clearly the solution there is to put on a mask of some variety and fight our way through the police station to rescue them.

Well we know [Hypnosis]. We could probably handle it ourselves. Of course it does set us up to invite Yang & Ruby to move in with us, or get a large apartment all together. After all while we might have manipulated one police officer, another one might come looking for them. Both of them stand out after all. Just easier all around to have them live with us so we can hypnotize anyone who causes trouble for them.

If we get two more beauties as roommates, well, thats a side benefit.

I nominate star-wars for Issei's hypnosis. "These are not the girls you're looking for."

Let's not be so free with the UMI with people just doing there jobs and looking out for our girls future.

Regarding Raiser... Would Rias really lose to him against should the Rating game still happen?

Sure, she may not have Issei and Asia on her team now, but if all three of her new pawns can still use holy attacks, it may not be impossible for her to win, so long as a good battle strategy is made.

She's depending on Dohnaseek and that other one to do their jobs and not stab her in the back. It's better if we can convince Raiser not to make the challenge in the first place. It should be simple enough for him to point out that he's challenging a girl with only half a peerage when he has a complete set, and that makes him look unmanly -- and worse, unworthy of her.

The fallen angels were weak enough that Rias and his peerage took them down without breaking a sweat . Also , Issei's holy attack was so effective again Raiser mostly because of the element of surprise . In this case , holy attacks from the pawns are expected and will be countered.

As for a good battle strategy , that is unlikely . Personality-wise , Rias may be one of the best masters Reincarnated Devils may hope for , but as a battle leader , she just sucks .

In the LN , Rias' peerage went into the match without any sort of coherent strategy except for 'Defeat Raiser' . They just bum-rushed the enemy for the most part , and Issei covered everyone's slack for the most part .

Rias herself did not contribute anything worthwhile , and actually hindered her peerage to an extent by keeping both Asia and the Phoenix Tears with her , while her team could have really used the extra healing . Add to that she did not have any specific counter in mind for Raiser's regenerative powers , of which she was aware beforehand .

Lastly , her group got as far as they did against Raiser because they underestimated Issei by thinking of him as a mere pawn . This time , instead of Issei she got three pawns whose combined power and motivation are both lower than the canon Issei at this point .

tl;dr version : Rias winning the rating game , though not impossible , is very very unlikely .
