I don't think Vigilant Gaze would leave their post, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
 
Both can be equally true, especially since we don't actually know how well Vigilant knew how to fight in the first place.

They tend to be pretty good when it comes to punching things as a default state. As for Vigilant, personally, he's described in the mouse over text here as being "among the most powerful angels."

So I'd be weary of counting him out.
