On a Pale Horse (Umamusume/Youjo Senki)

"Is that why so many umas have strange names?" Mother wondered aloud.
"No, that seems to be more from umamusume usually being given more leeway to express themselves."
That sounded like a polite way of saying umamusume were strange. Though to some degree, you had to work around people who weighed a few hundred kilos and could flip a car over if angered or frightened, especially if they had just recently given birth.
That makes sense. xD
"There is only you, Maly Orzeł."
Oh.
Cue Tanya putting in her head that she has to honor the whole polish side of the family due to being the last Uma in it, and going 200% effort. ;p

Awesome chapter, great work.

but the inner thought is definitely gonna be hilarious if it was the case.
'Isn't this a bit cruel? First of all, they're making us sing and dance after running a race. Sure it's a pretty short one but some of the other runners look tired. Even worse, they're making the losers dance too! Is this some sort of humiliation ritual to encourage them to try harder next time? Several of them look like they've been crying.'

And she's been doing this kind of training for pretty much her whole life.
Shirogane's only been running deliveries for something like 3 years, since she started doing that in Middle School. She has, however, been doing what she considers light military style PT for most of her life. Scaled for an uma's strength. She was also running against another uma who was a few years older than her and later on became a racing academy student, so her training scale was closer to that of Tracen than she realized.

I also can't tell if everyone is freaking out since she's apparently become the school idol and only Uma in the school's history who's gotten into Tracen Academy, or if the speech she'd prepared was just THAT GOOD.
A bit of both. Most of her classmates like her because she brings interesting food and will help people who ask her, despite having a somewhat intimidating personality. Shirogane doesn't think much of it since she's been through school a few times and doesn't find it particularly difficult, but she did help improve a good number of her classmates' scores.

I wonder what from what army the Uhlan uniform came from.
It's a replica/refurbishment of a Duchy of Warsaw uniform that some of her family wore at parades a few times.

Behold the beginning of the Silver clan the only clan of being capable to be as weird as the Gold clan but in the opposite direction
Shirogane: "Why am I being propositioned by so many people?!"

What does her hair ornaments look like?
Basically they look like some of the Pegasus knight headpieces from fire emblem but sized to fit on an uma's ears.

Shiro-chan's only 142 cm!? Bruh! Despite having a new life, why can't she get rid of the short height curse!
She's something like 145cm. And she's scaled to this height based on her horse equivalent's size in comparison with other horses.

Shirogane can get away with it because she's mature enough to know when to let her (child) body rest without constant adult guidance/supervision, I don't think others in her position would have the same discipline.
She's also able to tweak her own diet to match, and figured out how to make a variety of supplemental materials, like electrolyte gel packs and the like. It helps that she was specifically training for physical conditioning rather than trying to win a race, so didn't have a time pressure that might push her to overtrain.

Not because of this. Shirogane taking this seriously would be completely ridiculous and unrealistic.
Shirogane will take racing seriously in the sense that she treats a job or school seriously. Mainly she's aiming to get on the podium so she gets a cut of a purse. First place obviously gets the lion's share of the money, but for her it's more important to keep getting cuts of the purse over time than winning any specific one. For her to really run like her life was on the line would require her to have a PTSD episode on the track.

So they had an Uma Corp?
At some points it might be more accurate to say that the Polish military had a human corp, since at many points in history their military was mostly cavalry.

Cue Tanya putting in her head that she has to honor the whole polish side of the family due to being the last Uma in it, and going 200% effort. ;p
Shirogane could find herself unexpectedly popular in Poland if she plays into her Polish heritage more.

...There *are* some circumstances where it might happen, isn't there?.. Shirogane diverting back to her Tanya reactions and scaring other contestants shitless while absolutely gunning it to the finish line would be a rather striking scene.

So I'm wondering, what do we think is Shirogane's long-term game plan? Because she still thinks that her skills at a racer are just average overall. So I think she believes that her skill is enough to get her into Tracen thanks for her trainer, but not enough for her to last in the long-run. So I anticipate that she's going to be putting considerable effort into a "back-up plan" for when racing becomes a dead-end for her. Something that will give her an alternate career if/when racing doesn't pan out. What that back-up strategy looks like, and how it causes her to stand out from her peers at Tracen, I have yet to know, and it makes me all the more curious.

That's basically what I meant. Although I really hope there are no PTSD flashbacks in this story - they don't seem to fit how she's been shown so far.

Yes and no.

While she doesn't seem to have PTSD, she has exhibited a Stress response to being reminded of Past Trauma.

The thunder of a storm made her stressed and angry, so perhaps while also hyped up in a race it could cause dysfunction

To be fair, the Uma mangas tend to depict losers joining the stage as something voluntarily. I can see some Umas, even when they lost, still join the singing and dancing to get more fans or show appreciation to existing fans. While those who are too bitter at the lost or got something else to do, would opt out.

Sounds like she is better than the average, but not at the level of tryhards (e.g. Mejiro training their Umas since they were a kid). I wouldn't be surprise if she does pretty well early on due to her existing training and probably racing against seniors earlier than others.

No.
The only time we see a reaction which goes beyond being reminded of a very upsetting and stressful time is when she's an infant (and even those I'm not sure they go past healthy stress response), so even if the story engineered a race being actually stressful for some reason (which as noted doesn't fit how she was shown so far) there's no reason for her to display any stress/trauma disorder.

If they are going to modify the Uhlan uniform as a racing uniform (I hope not. I hope they wear it as is or just make a uniform based on the design), one of the more simple ways to both alude to her name and represent her Polish roots is to stitch a Polish Eagle, either as a patch on her uniform, an ornament on her hat, or the top of it if her hat is one of those square top ones that look a bit like a graduation cap.

it gonna take time till the debut race, or was it trial race that get the Uma a Trainer

i remember Super Creek retook it cause she wasn't satisfy with her result and then she go get us Trainer

enough time to send her family uniform to the tailor to get it change to a race uniform that fit whatever regulation racewear must have

Umas are much more durable than humans. Goldshi shrugs off a lot of eye damage that would blind a human

Though it's treated as comedic

The unnervingly quiet girl suddenly screaming a warcry would probably spook a lot of the umas. Given that even some of the more serious uma are actually a bit skittish (like Narita Brian being scared of his shadow), it would be something akin to a debuff skill that unnerves nearby racers.

Tanya racing to make sure her caretakers can live in peaceful retirement

Yep, she might get serious for that
If she wants to supplement her family's pension plan, she'd need to run for a significant amount of time, while consistently at least getting on the podium to get a cut of the purse. That or merchandising and other supplementary sources of income. She could probably sell something like recipe books. Or a traffic navigation app.

So Shirogane definitely has 20% Stamina 10% Strength as her growth affinities, but her personal skill of reducing air resistance... would that be a recovery skill or an acceleration boost?
Stamina seems to be Shiros strong suit
She'd actually probably have a 20% Guts and 10% Wits growth affinities, but with a lot of Stamina increasing events. She does have a lot of Stamina, but where she really really beats other racers is her intelligence and concerningly high pain threshold. So Stamina might appear to be her strongest suit but it's actually Guts.

As for her personal skill its probably a late race navigation and surge skill. "This Race is Not Yet Lost"

This makes her quite difficult to block.

Pace Chaser/Late Surger style with poor in Front Runner and Average in End Closer?
Mostly like so. Unlike many smaller umas, Shirogane actually is more comfortable running in a pack. She also doesn't have high enough of a top speed to do all that great as an End Closer.

To be fair, the Uma mangas tend to depict losers joining the stage as something voluntarily. I think there was an event in Haru Urara's career where one of umas is crying backstage before going out to dance, so there seems to be quite a lot of pressure to perform.

Sounds like she is better than the average, but not at the level of tryhards (e.g. Mejiro training their Umas since they were a kid). I wouldn't be surprise if she does pretty well early on due to her existing training and probably racing against seniors earlier than others.
She's a different kind of try hard. She hasn't been training for racing specifically, but is probably comparable in physical fitness, while being superior in desensitization and inferior in public relations training.

Maybe her loss comes about due to her scarring another so badly that they win via Scooby Do induced speed. This could double as both a loss and a catalyst to learn how to emote so she doesn't traumatize her classmates.
Shirogane turning Front Runners into Twin Turbo, lol.

Smart falcons career also focuses on how Dirt Racers feel marginalized by the fact that Dirt Racing gets much less coverage and leads to the uncomfortable feelings that Dirt Racing Umas have is there's something "wrong with them" for not being able to hack it on turf tracks and failing at Dirt racing is even more stressful

Shirogane Appearance Reference New

Here's an approximation of what Shirogane would look like, though she'd normally cut her hair significantly shorter, and the ear ornaments would be have white wings as well.

She looks completely harmless. Definitely not someone scary to have chasing you at 30-40km/hr

Is this going to follow the Ura finale of career mode and the new one coming song as well of the other events such as Zodiac careers (geminis cup, cancer cup, etc) and the team trials or is just gonna be pure careers for time to time without a Ura finale

Yeah, that looks unreasonable to manage.

Given how she sounds as still as a normal human that probably only applies to human and not Uma Perception. All those little micro-movements Umas do, those fidgets that's unique to them.

Although anyone coming at you at 40km would be terrifying, don't have to be an Uma. Although given that's human maximum might wanna up that a bit to reach Uma average.

Goldship is literally built different you can't use her as an average to umas at all i'm pretty sure that she actually doesn't feel that much pain and just acts in for the comedy effect cause she have multiple eye damage and nothing really affect her at all.

Pretty sure the Umamusume world acts under the laws of cartoon/anime comedy. As long as it's for comedy, the damage victim is immortal/indestructible/immune to long term damage.

Just look at the original anime trainer. Kicked so many times by Uma he doesn't even feel it. Also gets Pro Wrestle moved by Uma

Given that in Maruzensky's story the Spring Stakes only have 5 runners I assumed that performing in the concert is mandatory for the racers
