I can see your viewpoint I just don't agree with it, historically many of the most famous/successful scientiests and mathmaticians have all come from backgrounds rather simiar, this is obviously due to having more time to devote to such things when they didn't need to devote most of their day just putting food on the table. Having said that, those are the sorts of people these trust fund babies have to live up to, even the minimum acceptable level of education/grades. You offten see are much more demanding than just about anyone else same with doctors kids and other such high paying professions.
If they were ALL politicians kids though... you may have a point even I wouldn't be able to refute... though the math for that just doesn't pan out for that to be the case... too many chiefs not enough indians sort of situation.
Many Slytherins are likely just trying to live up to their lineage, which is going to be a tall order for many of them in itself seeing that many seem to have generations of ancestors to memorize/emmulate.
