So we've got threads for video games and movies and stuff but I don't see a thread for discussing music. Artists, songs, albums, tours, whatever.

So to kick things off, I've grown really fond of an artist named Gavin Dunne, who publishes music on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes, etc. until the name Miracle of Sound. Almost all of his stuff is video game-themed with some songs being about movies or tv shows, but all of it is excellent. He especially likes to do songs about new games, so his most recent releases are about Spider-Man PS4, Red Dead Redemption, and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

I've been looking for other artists with the same theme to their writing. There's plenty of game I'd like to see music written for but they're just not on Gavin's radar.

Gav's rad, I tend to prefer his older stuff which was a bit more peppy ('you'll never be better than commander shepard!'), as he's gone for an orchestral sound lately that while good, can sound samey if close together (that said his Doom one was pure love).

I not long ago got into Dr. Steel- a steampunk mad scientist who with an army of toys, some youtube videos, and a decent following, once made a splash on the internet... And then went on to abandon that role (but is doing well and he was upfront about everything so that's fine). Easily one of the better dedicated supervillain artists... Even if I'm not too sure on some of his songs when it gets real and he's angry against real people. His fans have created some nice stuff too... Though I'm not wholly sure why on Youtube searching for Dr Steel pops up with random Five Nights at Freddy's and My Little Pony videos that have Dr Steel music playing on them. It feels like there's a disconnect between 'angry toy shop owner decides to conquer the world for its own good with an army of animatronic robots, to free those trapped by consumerism and the shackles of 'normality'' and 'animatronics coming alive/toy based cartoo' oh wait. Now I get it, kinda. Still feels weird what the fans are doing.

Crobot is amazing for actiony music based around fantasy stuff. From chupacabras to dark magic women and what I think was a song alluding to but never directly stating it's about the Persephone myth...

Ludo's Broken Bride is basically The Time Machine except he goes back in time to the time of the dinosaurs and also there's a zombie apocalypse in a future-medieval setting instead of the morlocks thing. I absolutely do not sometimes sing along to the (probably misremembering it) line "I'm just a man, a mere civil servant! against, a tyrant god! I've allied with the machine, salvation he brings, to bring the truth to the streets once again, is this the end?"

Ever since Christopher Lee died I keep going back to his Charlemagne albums and thinking, goddamn why do I not see historical-based music that often?

Skelator's been a recent hit for me. Similar to Crobot in the topics of their songs, but has a more Iron Maiden feel to them.

And lastly, I highly recommend Gloryhammer and all the other bands they are involved in for story-driven metal. THE UNICORN INVASION OF DUNDEE for example is pure awesomeness.

And extra lastly because I lied, Steeleye Span's Wintersmith album is possibly the best Discworld-based music on the internet, but that might be because all the other ones are fairly clunky sounding bits from Discworld cartoon soundtracks (that said 'the wizard's staff ha. Crown of Ice for example is so beautiful and so scary in its depiction of an inhuman winter aspect falling in what it thinks is love with a human witch who took on the role of the Summer Lady.

And truly lastly, David Bowie's the Laughing Gnome is the best thing Bowie ever did, if you haven't listened to it, listen to it. It is what I think being high is like.

Discworld music you say...?

If you're looking for video game themed stuff JT music/skullkruncher13 is a close runner-up if you like Rap and Rock. He can tend towards game mechanics more often than I like but there's still some pretty epic stuff there. His DOOM Rap is often paired with Miracle of Sound's DOOM song for recs and I personally love what he's done for Terraria, Titanfall, Halo 5, and Hello Neighbor.

And since I'm here anyone know where I can find more like Obituary? Those distorted voices... they entice me somehow.

German marches can be so whimsical... or talking about the love of their lives.

So I found this thing called Len'en. Should please Touhou fans.

When you're a weeb but the society around you doesn't approve so you pretend you like orchestral music...

Not that it worked out too well for me regardless, which is why these days I don't even bother saying where the music I like came from.

Just found this, and I fucking love the chorus. "Gonna waka waka walk away." Honestly, a big part of it is just that I love Dan Avidan/Danny Sexbang's voice, and this shows it off really well. It's just too bad that it's so short.

Speaking as a music lover, FatRat on youtube has very good music. Xray Dog is fantastic. Two Steps from Hell is incredible!
E Nomine is great!

An epic hiking song...

This song is rather well liked by everyone who heard it...

... seriously, German music is good...

Muss i Denn seriously got around thanks to...

... a German-American by the name of Elvis Presley. Yes, the King of Rock sung Muss i Denn during his short-lived movie career...

If this is the opening of an anime, I would totally watch all seasons of the anime in question.

All Hail the Omnisiah.

I particularly like the Binary part in the beginning. Translated, it's says 'War'.

First heard it on the "If the Emperor Had Text-to-Speech Device' series back when I was in college and fell in love with the song immediately. Even to day, I have a snippet of it as my Ringtone and Alarm.

I can't say that I like the rest of Triarii's discography though. In my opinion, the rest of their music lacks the punch and the sheer 'FUCK YEAH' factor of this one.

First heard it as the opening of Lord Bung's excellent Confinement Series. Excellent, moody music that I often left playing on loop on my Alexa when I'm just lounging around the house.

Currently, I'm getting into Starset in the past few months. They only have two albums out right now, but what they have is excellent. I especially love their moodier pieces, like Starlight and Dark on Me.

Another band I just discover is Saint Motel. Their songs My Type and Destroyer are fun, cheeky listen.

Found this recently, really like it, and the style/genre in general...

I just realized that these 2 songs, despite very different styles and genre, are oddly similar:

Gun Girl 2 OST, by Josh Whelchel

I was originally introduced to this soundtrack by a Minecraft Super Hostile speedrun, of all things.

I like Lizz.

I also like these guys even though they currently have 2 songs on youtube.

I also recommend Milkychan though a lot of her content is in a different language.

Also recommend Miricle of sound as well dude is great at what he does. There's more but I don't want to make a super big post filled with videos.

Totally didn't find this because of gay porn or anything...

With possibly the most 90s name ever I've been loving this song "The Foundation" by Xzibit.

Ready Steady Go - L'Arc en Ciel

Favorite opening song from the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime.

Melody Gardot Love me like a river, its a really noir blues/jazz sound. I can easily see it as a soundtrack for a classic hardboiled detective movie

Fitting for my Avatar, I love the various music tracks of Darkest Dungeon, especially this one here.

[On the Hills of Manchuria, a Russian song about the Russo-Japanese War by the men who fought there]
"In the morning mist, a horn had played the signal..."
