I mean, all FF protags have hair that implies extraordinary care. From shampoo to hair spray all the way to coloring. Makes sense for L'oreal to use them.

That was me. I posted it. And it's a fan thing, but something that could slot in really well in the FF7 world because Sephiroth would totally use the ff7 equivalent
 
Started playing Pacific Drive.

It's... anxiety inducing, but in a different way than other games I've put down. I don't think there's a global time limit, but each map gives you limited time before the storms start. The little Instability Storms have you scrambling to get away but it isn't the terror of a horror game's implacable foe.

It's just the beginning, and the options have a VERY extensive set of controls to make the game easier or harder, so I dunno how hard it's going to get, but it's just right so far.

Need to see if chucking a road flare at a tourist makes them explode and whether it sets off a chain reaction... Last map was really annoying with them wandering all over the road, potholes everywhere, and some new electrical barrier I didn't get a chance to scan. Storm was too close. Also had three broken bunnies latch on and try to run my car into a herd of tourists, annoying.
 
Tourists DO explode when you hit them with a road flare, but only if it's lit. I think they'd also explode if you hit them hard enough with it unlit, but it doesn't quite strike with enough force- a little nudge isn't enough.

And the chain reactions are very satisfying- but also concerning when you realize just how many of the bastards were lurking in the dark because the explosions keep going. At least they leave goodies.

Did run into the more aggressive ones- wound up with three right next to my car, one in front and one behind, juuuuust far enough away that I could very carefully back up a hair, then turn to get past the one in front, but I was very close to losing big chunks of health.

Also my car's started developing quirks. I thought the horn going off when I closed the trunk was random, but it wasn't. It's got another quirk, but I don't have any clue what it is as I haven't noticed anything else unusual yet.

A bit late on this, but to the best of my knowledge: no, there's no overall time limit in Pacific Drive, or at least not in that there's no long term fail state you can reach.

Also think it's impossible to totally screw yourself over (in a "might as well return to title and start a new game" manner), as I think you have a effectively infinite source of basic materials at "base", so if somehow your everything gets wrecked, you can get back to basics and start rebuilding, like you did in the first place.
 
You can SAVE SCUM the tuner. This is revolutionary, as you only get so many guesses to figure out what the hell your car is doing- per visit, probably. I finally figured out that my gas gauge was swishing back and forth with my wipers was the problem.

...Can't fix it, of course, haven't unlocked the kit to do that yet, bleh.

...I'm going to see my mechanic tomorrow about giving my actual car a tune up, I'm going to ask him what to do if that happens without telling him I'm talking about a video game just to see his face.

No, really, I think I could handle this IRL. Assuming the mechanical skills necessary for building shit and fixing cars, of course, or at least good enough instructions.

The anomalies are scary but not insurmountable as long as you're careful- hell, they're all practically stationary, even the tourists. Except the instability itself, but that's just a matter of hustle.

I know there are other anomalies I haven't run into yet, but the ones I've heard mention of also seem to be of the 'obstacle' or 'annoyance' variety rather than actually deadly. Your car's more under threat of death than you are.

I've only died once so far- and I actually hit 'abandon trip' on realizing there was no way I was making it to the gateway because I'd fucked up thinking I could offroad and it turned out to be a mini-mountain between those two close-looking roads.


Meanwhile, if I got a job at Freddy Fazbear's there would be no five nights, just one, and only a whole one if I couldn't safely get to the door and break it down. It's safer sleeping in the street than working at that fucking place.

The thing with Tourist that I have learned is that despite them being based on scarier entities like weeping angels, the worst thing they can do to you is creep you out because they dont really hurt you until you cause them to explode which also requires some effort. The tourist variants though are more dangerous in different ways.

Yeah, I ran into the Shocked Tourists- and one that didn't show the electric stream until I drove into it.

Also saw a regular one move, though that may have been lag. Just appeared in front of me.

They're only really a threat if you let them surround the car, because then you can't blow them up without damaging it.

Also: I just figured out (I think) that the Anchor's range indicator on the map tells you how far out the anomalies will appear when you remove them. Is that right? I've only tested it once so far, parking my car outside the zone so those damn jumpers don't annoy the hell out of me trying to get back in and get the car off them. But I just got Broken Bunnies, which could've spawned anywhere in the zone and gone after my car anyway.

I also got on nexusmods and installed something- restoring the cut bed functionality to the garage, replacing the basketball hoop. So I don't have to play 'will my battery last?' every damn run.

EDIT: I unlocked the second tier engine... but I don't have the parts for it yet.

Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting Tourists, heheheheh!

I wonder if anyone has ever made a World of Darkness inspired urban fantasy mod for Hearts of Iron 4.

Ideally with a system where you have supernatural nations inside mundane ones and there's events to have an Emergence. Like, create the Confederation of New Jotenheim in Canada, then conquer northern Eurasia to form Hyperborea.

I don't know about modern, but there's Princes of Darkness for Crusader Kings 3 in the Dark Ages.

I never really thought of that. I always assumed that anchor range relates to their relative intensity or the range they can be detected once they are hidden from the map and you need to use an item to find them

Also for batteries, you will eventually get upgrades that will increase its capacity or add ways to charge it. Even using the lightning emitted by anomalies.

Nah, it's definitely the range of the anomalies that pop up after you take it, tested it a few times now. Also if it's the spoiled case, that's hell as it's way too short a distance with how spread out they are.

I tried the lightning rod... not unless I have all lightning resistant parts on my car, maybe. It deals way way too much damage to charge it that way. I do have the upgrade that lets it collect rainwater for battery power, but I'd still much rather start expeditions in the morning so I have as much daylight as possible, and save my battery for the Limpulse Emitter and occasional tunnel.

Do you have any advice for collecting chemicals? I am almost totally out from making repair putty. Realized I needed to use the garage upgrade that fixes parts while you're out more than that stuff, but I'd still like to not be so short on it.

I can't really help you with that. At first, I just grinded by planning on known routes where I remember they have materials then I think I kind of cheated though once storms started happening by skipping time really fast and then onto duping materials. I was unaware of a bedroom mod at that time.
