Video Games General

It has no shortage of sexy gals to use for faceclaims if that's your goal.
Well, the goal was to pick and choose a handful of girls to go with a separate Comander on their own adventure.

But being thrust into a new world and having a new set of memories making things fuzzy is a close second.

Just started up World of Tanks after not playing for quite some time, and I somehow acquired over 170 days of premium account time, despite never buying any.

Any games like Space Engineers but more car-centric?

Specifically being able to build bases to house industrial contraptions and mad-max inspired hot-rods.

My first thought is From the Depths, but the base building is pretty much campaign only. With the land-based stuff being even more jank than the main focus which is water/air.

The game Crossout is the closest I can think of, but unfortunately, it's a F2P multiplayer game, with all the microtransactions that implies. I'm also not sure how high it's player count is. Still, here's a video that demonstrates most of the basic gameplay elements.

From what I've seen in reviews on the game's page on the Xbox Marketplace? Apparently Crossout is even more hostile to free players than the typical F2P game; supposedly there's some kind of in-game player market system to allow free players to get otherwise paid goods... except that the devs run bots that buy up basically all that stuff so the only way to get it is by paying.

So no, I cannot recommend Crossout to anyone.

Trailmakers seems like it sorta fills the "make your own vehicle" niche, but I have no clue if there's base building aspects; only time I've seen it played was a couple weeks ago by Dooby, and she was screwing around in it for the holidays.

Just found out that Deamon Tides is a thing from a trailer on yt at random. Loved the previous game from the dev Demon Turf.

Aperently their taking more bowser's fury aproach with a open world 3d platformer. Not sure about the change from 2d sprites in 3d enviorment to full 3d but I am willing to give it a shot even its clear that their not too used to that from trailer with how their cutscenes are shown someplaces.

Are rts (real time strategy) games still a thing? Or are they just kept on life support through shitty remake of old, good games? <Looking at you command and conquer rivals>
Edit: thanks to @Malcolmo, for reminding me that I should clarify what I mean by "still a thing", which is me asking if rts games are still being made and not if old rts games are still being played.

It probably depends on what you mean by still a thing. AOE2 is still around and releasing expansions though 4 fell off the face of the earth. In theory there's another supreme commander spiritual successor in the works that's set on a ring world but that's still in alpha stages. If you do away with base building and just go with controlling a few units in real time Nebulous Fleet Command has the space combat front covered, though again it's still a wip albeit a very good one. Otherwise I haven't been paying as much attention to the genre as I should.

Yes, they are still a thing. Recent releases that I can think of right now is Zephon, Terminator Dark Fate Defiance, Sins of Solar Empire 2, Frostpunk 2 (if you qualify this as one), Songs of Silence, etc.

Upcoming include Zerospace, Tempest Rising, DORF, Kaiserpunk, Falling Frontier, Dustfront and more.

As for video/twitch/general viewership, strategy game youtubers still currently and actively releasing videos of matches, tournaments, and commentary of various already releases game like Aoe 2 and 4, Starcraft 2, CnC Tiberium War/Kane Wrath, and BAR.

The strategy game scene is still very much active and awesome.

I mean, Dungeons 4 came out 2 years ago and its most recent DLC came out a month ago, Northgard still gets active support and new content fairly regularly, and Terra Invicta's Early Access is chugging along.

Yeah, we're long past the era of every company ever trying on breaking into the market but there are new RTS games coming out. Petroglyph released 9-Bit armies last year. Other people have already mentioned SOASE2. Terminator: Dark Fate is a thing. Then all of the wargame/RTT stuff like WARNO and War Game or Broken Arrow which is coming out later this year. There are games out there that might interest you if you look for them.

Heck, Tempest Rising is coming out in a few months. The RTS genre isn't dead dead... yet

Zero-K has been holding a steady abet somewhat small player count for years and is also still getting updates too.

Welp, I've decided to get Dynasty Warriors Origins. Now I've had experience with Age of Calamity (loved it) and Fire Emblem: Three Hopes (hated it). So I'm looking forward to seeing what Dynasty warriors is all about.

I did finish Chapter 1. All I could think about the Yellow Turbans was "What a senseless waste." Zhang Jiao's death actually made me rather sad. I get the feeling things are about to escalate though.

I am looking forward to seeing just what the big deal with Lu Bu is.

It's Lu Bu. Hailed as one of if not the greatest singular warrior of his era. And then they put him in a video game.
Interesting. Back when I was bitching about Three Hopes folk would tell me that Byleth filled the role of Lu Bu.
I don't think it quite clicked with them that I'd never played a mainline Dynasty Warriors game lol.
Anywho, so far the game is pretty solid. I will say this game is harder than I was expecting. If I'm not careful then I get wrecked.

Yeah, if this is your first actual Dynasty Warriors game... Lu Bu has a reputation, one that mostly applies when he's an enemy (ie, not under player control or on the player's side).

Way back on the PS1 or PS2, Dynasty Warriors 3 (which was actually Shin Sangoku Musou 2 in Japan... long story, but the Japanese numbering for Dynasty Warriors is always 1 behind the English version) had a stage where things went to hell, and you had to fight your way out. At one point, Lu Bu shows up, and the person telling you what to do says the now infamous "You must not pursue Lu Bu" line...

...for damn good reason. Traditionally, a hostile AI controlled Lu Bu gets a bunch of buffs permanently active, that make him a nightmare to fight. Usually, if you're required to fight and beat him, he's actually somewhat nerfed by not getting those buffs... which still makes him a nasty fight.

What's the quickest way to level up and gain the current Max Light Power for Destiny 2?

I don't like depending on a fireteam that I can't get

I barely had any Legendaries or Exotic stuff in D1

So want a change for D2, which is a longer game

I do wish the joycon colors remained as prominent as the originals. There will probably be alts buyable though.

Bloomburg is reporting that Nintendo has a supply chain of 20 million units ready for the first year, compared to the 15 million the Switch 1 sold in its first four quarters. If that's true then they must have a lot of confidence in their starting lineup. April 2nd can't come anywhere near fast enough.

Anyway how about a pie in the sky fantasy? Switch 2 launches with a huge remaster/upgrade for Breath of the Wild and/or Tears of the Kingdom and the upgrade is free for anyone who bought the original versions. How's that for a system-seller?

It's Backward compatible. Perfect that's a main selling point for me. I was considering buying OLED but with 2 release right behind cothe rner, I'll wait for this one.
Same. So far the only games rumored not to be backwards compatible are games that used the IR sensor on the right joycon. So the Labo titles, Ring Fit and anything else built around said sensor.

They probably want to avoid the same issues Switch had during its release with Scapers causing a shortage that couldn't be replaced faster enough due to Chip shortage. I still expect that there will be a big problem with scalpers. Unless they put aside some that will be available for pick up at the store and with limits put one per person sales.

I wonder if they will just make some add-on or new gadget that will make is possible. IIRC Rig Fir sold in over 15 million copies. It means that 10% of Switch users have it. By generous metric. It's still a big number. No way they will not try to make it compatible somehow. Or Nintendo will release Ring Fit 2 or something.

Did the Switch have that problem or are you thinking of the PS5? Because I don't remember a chip shortage pre-2020.

Main thing I am curious about is profile transferring, cause it'd be annoying to lose my game progress. Not a deal breaker mind, my joycons are dying anyway so it's conveniently timed for being soonish, but it would be nice to not have to completely restart all of my games.
