Vote Thread for Ack's Omake Corner

I don't even recall.
You're funny!
Yeah, I've read Xanth. Just not in the last twenty years.
... oh, you actually don't remember. Claiming not to would the kind of thing you'd say as a joke if you recalled what it did and how it worked.

Bink was the protagonist of the very first two books, A Spell for Chameleon and The Source of Magic.

His power protected him from magic. Thing was, though, it was a Magician-Class talent. Merely making him immune to magic wasn't enough (although it did that) - his talent was powerful enough to "realize" that if everyone knew Bink was immune to magic, they'd just kill him through mundane means, and then the talent wouldn't have protected him after all. So the talent altered reality around him such that he always had plausible deniability - the evil magician trying to transform him would sneeze at a crucial moment, or a deer would leap from the underbrush into the path of the spell and get transformed instead.

It even went so far as to arrange "coincidences" that would prevent anyone who did discover Bink's talent from even telling anyone about it - from claps of thunder that kept the listener from hearing properly, all the up to a sudden landslide on one memorable occasion. It transpired that a person would only find out about Bink's talent if their knowing made him safer.

It was arguably the most powerful talent in the entire series, before or since, and I can see why Taylor's power in It Gets Worse would remind someone of it.

Edit: Ninja'd by, like, the entire page. Oh, well.

Bink was the protagonist of the very first two books, A Spell for Chameleon and The Source of Magic.
He also played a prominent, if background, roll in many of the later books as well. I've only read up to Crewel Lye though, and sadly the first three books I've only heard the edited audiobook version (had the cassette tapes when I was a kid), I definitely need to read the unedited first 3 books at some point... lotsa references to stuff that I didn't see happen, lol. Hell, Queen Isis's first mention was after she married Trent, I only barely know about the trouble she gave Bink in the first book...

Actually have the first 32 books as audiobooks atm (though sadly the first 3 are the cassette versions, the rest are unabridged), but don't have much occasion to actually listen to them; prefer reading anyways, but couldn't find them as ebooks...

Welp, Security! is up. It's time and past to tally votes, so tally ho!

(Note that I have two twelve hour shifts coming up in a row, so my next chapter will be a little delayed).

Voting is CLOSED.

Vote 85: I, Panacea
Thanks, as always, for voting.

Voting points this round: 1494

Announcement
The new vote counting system is awesome. That is all.

On to the main event.

Alea Iacta Est 479
All Alone 776
Bait & Switch 694
Confrontation II 575
Danny & Taylor 876
Hostage Situation 292
I, Panacea 0 (1250)
Junior Hero 927
Meet the Heberts 690
MirrorVerse 1195
NSW 1008
Nemesis 706
One More Trigger 317
Really Bad End 1116
Recoil 1104
Security! 84
Slippery Slope 423
Trump Card 323
War Games 140
Wyvern 924

[If you want to know which of these stories is NSFW, check the first post of the thread..]

I, Panacea has stepped up again, just 55 points ahead of its nearest rival, MirrorVerse. Next one after I, Pancea seems to be Really Bad End, but it's not unlikely that NSW and Wyvern really will overhaul it before it finally has a go on.

Check out Jim Starluck 's spreadsheet for a reasonable prediction.

Note also that the vote counting script given to me by Throne3d was of huge assistance.

Anyway, thanks again for voting, and I hope you enjoy reading the stories as much as I enjoy writing them.

For anyone who hasn't voted on this thread before, the voting rules go as follows:

1) UP TO six votes. I will not count anything extra, and a write-in will likely be ignored (if I want to write a different story, I will, but at my own discretion). Suggestions are welcome, but I am under no obligation to carry them out. And just remember, the more stories I am writing, the longer it will take for your favourites to roll back around.
2) First vote is worth six points, second is worth five, and so on.
3) You can't vote twice on the same story. The voting code will count the last vote and ignore previous ones.
4) If I say "Voting is CLOSED", then this post comes up, with "Voting is OPEN" at the bottom, then you can vote again.
5) If I say "Voting will continue", it's still the same voting period. Voting has not restarted. You can not vote a second time.

Vote format looks like this:

[X] Alea Iacta Est - 6
[X] I, Panacea - 5
[X] Security! - 4
[X] Recoil - 3
[X] Trump Card - 2
[X] NSW - 1

Specifically: SQUARE brackets around an X, one space, and please spell at least the first word of the name of the story properly. Number of voting points comes last. Please try to format your vote properly, so as not to confuse the vote counter.

Thank you.

Voting is OPEN.

Oh, and I know I'm pretty quick to say it so you might be doing it now, but it's not yet threadmarked...

Edit: Ooh! Nevermind, you've threadmarked it now.
