With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

Better than some of the weirder dark creatures that appeared in the 90's anime. Especially the later ones. Check out this bizarre choice: Taiyan, from 'Sailor Moon S'. Yes, she's wearing exactly what it looks like.
The anime had to come up with a lot more youma to pad out the runtime in comparison to the manga, which resulted in some... interesting designs.

"Moonlight. But…" She looks up, but the moon isn't visible from here. "Since Metalia blasted the moon, my compact has been taking longer to recharge."
Nooo. That was just her Compact, the thing she used to disguise herself as Sailor V instead being Sailor Venus. Her own power comes from her Sailor Crystal, which is basically her soul and is connected to the planet Venus.

Why did they move to Britain off-screen? To see how a more northerly location than Japan is being affected?
Yes.
Thank you, corrected.
Youma appears, grabbing
Change this.

Metalia's been on a smashing spree, but Venus can only see what she's done to the moon.

While Senshi are connected to their planets, that doesn't mean their powers are tied to their planets. In the manga, Galaxia destroyed the homeworlds of the Starlights, but the Starlights still retained their powers.

In Sailor Moon, everything comes from the Galaxy Cauldron, in the form of Star Seeds, which despite the name is not limited to stars or planets, but also including all other life. Similarly, when they die, all life returns to the Galaxy Cauldron. Basically, Star Seeds are souls as far as Sailor Moon canon goes.

In the later chapters of Sailor Moon, we're told that when a planet is born, a Sailor Crystal is produced alongside it; Sailor Crystals are special Star Seeds (souls), that are paired with that specific planet and exist to guard it. However, we're also told at another point that Senshi and their equivalents have the souls of their planets--notably, when shit goes badly enough on Earth, Mamoru actually starts to sicken and die, as an extreme example. It's not an absolute thing though, because in the final chapter, Kakyuu and the Starlights have had their planets destroyed already. Senshi and their planets have a connection but they aren't one and the same, though as long as the planet still exists, it's Senshi can be reborn eventually.

Senshi essentially exist to be guardians/anti-bodies for their planet but aren't the actual planet.

This is enlightenment paul write from the main paragon line. So, can't he make a barely passable lantern by this point?I thought he could. Like not up to the standards of a regulation lantern, but maybe something he could use to charge.Or was that just rings?

This has been a consistent problem when it comes to creating tension in the plot, because Paul should technically be more than capable of making his own avarice tap pseudo lantern whenever he is left without his lantern for whatever plot related reason.

The usual answer is that by the time Paul notices he no longer has his lantern available his ring charge is already depleted enough that making it becomes almost impossible even at his levels of avarice efficiency.

The cross over episodes are usually hit or miss with star crossed being peak and the Sheda side road being a miss (for me), this one isn't doing much for me, so I think the best approach is going to be to wait a couple weeks for the episode to be done so I can finish it in one go.

After rereading the more recent story parts and browsing the Might and Magic wiki, I believe I've found an error.

That should say 'Nar-Heresh'.
Thank you, corrected.

My interpretation is that while the Crystals might be the power sources they use, they still use equipment to efficiently turn that power into something useful. Metalia doesn't want to destroy the Crystals -she's pretty sure she can use them- but she's perfectly capable of wrecking any magic-based equipment which survives from the old days and that would have an impact of Sailor Venus.

Really? I always assumed that Sailor V was short for Sailor Venus, much like how Spidey is short for Spider-Man.

What does the V stand for, then?
Oh, it stands for Venus. She just didn't call herself that when she started out. You'd have to ask the original author why.

It started as a one shot just featuring her entered into a contest before being expanded into a full series IIRC, so probably classic case of "didn't think things far ahead to her having teammates" :V

What else is he supposed to do? He doesn't have a good way to deal with Metalia yet. Not unless he can get his hands on either the Silver Crystal, or a power source of equivalent strength.
If he knows enough to know he doesn't have a good way to deal with Metalia, then he knows this world is already doomed.

Princess Serenity was barely able to turn the tables on Metalia with an artifact capable of rewriting reality on a solar system wide scale.

True. But there's stronger sources of power out there. Even more so if he manages to figure out a consistent way to travel back and forth between this universe and Earth 16.

The only stronger sources of power in his current universe are in the possession of Sailor Galaxia and Sailor Cosmos.

And the only thing in Earth 16 that might be able to match it is the White Entity or Lucifer.

He's big.

The forearms are disproportionally large. Maybe ten times the size of my own while the rest of him is a mere three times my size. His… Armour, is navy blue and covers the majority of his torso and the thighs and I… Think it's a upsized version of what the British police wear. The lower part of his legs are bare, showing pale green skin and feet with nail talons to match those on his fingers. They're gripping onto the Pillar of Bones too, and would probably let him tear things apart with his claws without losing his grip.

The head…

Weirdly, he's kept our old ponytail. The neck is longer and considerably more muscular than mine, not… Giraffe like, but enough to be disturbing. The eyes glow orange, with black pupils and no visible irises. In terms of facial structure… It's not too different to mine, actually. Perhaps if I owed my musculature to steroids rather than my power rings. Different, but clearly a 'me'.

Empathic vision just shows an undirected… Mess.

He's watching me, so I raise my right hand in a wave.

"Hello, me. How's it going?" He doesn't respond. "I don't remember seeing you at Vanishing Point. Are you still in there?"

Next to me C'est La Vie readies her chain and compact. "He's not."

"Ahh, we're philosophical zombies. We're not in the same position as most people."

"What does that mean?"

"No soul, so there's nothing for the dark energy to displace or destroy. In theory I should just be able to drain it." Ah. "Is that what you did, brother mine? Tried to fuel yourself using dark energy but got swamped by it?" I look closer at his fingers. Nothing there"What happened to your-"

He vanishes and appears in front of me!

"-ring?"

Shield!

His right claw comes down, talons shimmering! The kinetic barrier catches his flesh but the talons themselves go right through-

Crumbler ram.

-the barrier, causing it to fail just as my ram construct hits him in the chest-.

Gone.

Teleportation, enhanced speed-.

"He-." Lushun looks at the spire, where the quantity of green mist is much reduced. "He fed on it."

"Is it still working?"

"Yes, but it won't do what you want it to if he keeps doing that."

I look to C'est La Vie. "Is that something they can all do?"

"I don't know. They used to use them for collecting dark energy for Queen Beryl, not to keep it themselves. I'm more worried about her learning to use the dark energy spire herself."

"To do what, exactly? I mean, what is Queen… Was it Beryl or Metalia, or are there two of them?"

"Queen Beryl was in charge of the Dark Empire. Queen Metalia is… Her god, a spirit of pure dark energy."

"Did the other me know what she was?"

"He said that it wasn't a precise enough description. Just… Before he… Went away."

Ah. "Because I was worried that he was gradually turned by absorbing dark energy to fuel his ring, but if he got possessed by trying to eat a dark spirit then that's a bit less-."

"He tried eating her?!"

"I don't know that, but it fits the observed phenomena. Okay, the next-."

"Warning!"

The world slows as I look around for-

"Avarice detected!"

-where he's going to appear-.

For a fraction of a second I see him standing next to Lushun.

And then they're both gone.

"Oh no! Your-!"

"He can handle himself." Because I saw him demonstrate high level Summoning Magic, he claimed to be able to do high level Dark Magic, in addition to being a trained necromancer. His theoretic knowledge suggests skill in Sorcery and Enlightenment, a standard caster build. But a Dark Elf would usually take Destructive Magic rather than Summoning... Something odd there. But it still means that it would be difficult for Beryl or whoever to actually harm him. High level heroes are no joke. "But I have more questions."

"W-? What is it?"

"What does Metalia actually want? Normally I'd just look at her and then know, but all I got when I looked at me was a blur and a mild headache."

"To flood the world with dark energy and turn everyone into youma! You've seen it!"

"And once she's ruined human civilisation and turned everyone into slaves, what next?"

"I don't know."

"Alright, what about Queen Beryl? She must be serving Metalia for a reason. Is she still intelligent?" C'est La Vie nods. "And her henchmen? You mentioned a Zoisite?"

"They're intelligent, too. And I don't know what they got out of it."

"That tower, in Japan. Is that where they live?"

"… Yes. It's also where Sailor Mercury died."

"We need assistance and more information."

"They won't-."

"I can mind control people. Either by altering their desires-"

"I know-."

"-or turning them into living constructs. It's not efficient against things with exotic defences, but I can make it work. But if they've had their minds altered by dark energy but left with just enough mental freedom to plot and scheme… We might be able to work something out."

Sailor Moon... an incredibly grimdark setting behind the pink dresses.

And then Space Jesus failed against the first enemy.
Which makes me wonder, wouldn't Pluto have had a contingency for something like this? Also I'm fuzzy on the details but I think Saturn would have "activated' in some way by a world ending event like this. Would be funny if OL teams up with Pluto to do timey whimey stuff to bring Hypertime into the Sailor Moon universe to solve this.

Makes him sound like a giant gorilla. Except for the raking toe-claws. Nasty stuff. And whatever he's getting out of the pillar is only going to make all that worse. Best to stop him, I think.

The head…

Weirdly, he's kept our old ponytail. The neck is longer and considerably more muscular than mine, not… Giraffe like, but enough to be disturbing. Huh, that's the local Paul? And apparently running on physical overdrive via his Ring.

Empathic vision just shows an undirected… Mess.

He's watching me, so I raise my right hand in a wave.
Orange Light Overload, perhaps? Feeling every desire at once, so nothing can be focused on.

"Hello, me. How's it going?" He doesn't respond. "I don't remember seeing you at Vanishing Point. Are you still in there?"

Next to me C'est La Vie readies her chain and compact. "He's not."
Let's hope OL can turn off his Light remotely, or at least pin him down to cleanse him of it.

"Ahh, we're philosophical zombies. We're not in the same position as most people."

"What does that mean?"
A hollow man, effectively. A body just waiting for something to come squatting.

"No soul, so there's nothing for the dark energy to displace or destroy. In theory I should just be able to drain it." Ah. "Is that what you did, brother mine? Tried to fuel yourself using dark energy but got swamped by it?" I look closer at his fingers. Nothing there"What happened to your-"
A very grim example of what he could have become himself, if he hadn't learned to work with the Orange Light.

He vanishes and appears in front of me!

"-ring?"
Possibly swallowed it, maybe?

Shield!

His right claw comes down, talons shimmering! The kinetic barrier catches his flesh but the talons themselves go right through-
No doubt the talons consume energy, like physical blades of Feed.

Crumbler ram.

-the barrier, causing it to fail just as my ram construct hits him in the chest-.
At this stage, eh might be better off dead, though I doubt he'd go down that easily.

Gone.

Teleportation, enhanced speed-.
An intuitive level of transitioning, perhaps. hauling himself about bodily using his Ring...

"He-." Lushun looks at the spire, where the quantity of green mist is much reduced. "He fed on it."

"Is it still working?"
At least they know it can collect the right kind of dark energy.

"Yes, but it won't do what you want it to if he keeps doing that."

I look to C'est La Vie. "Is that something they can all do?"
It usually varied in the first 90's season. Most of them either funnelled it into another place via magic, or possibly regurgitated it later. Some didn't even bother, usually fighting the senshi briefly before being healed.

Which always did seem a little odd. I mean, evil Queen, of course, battling a princess. Classic Disney angle there in the dub...

"Queen Beryl was in charge of the Dark Empire. Queen Metalia is… Her god, a spirit of pure dark energy."

"Did the other me know what she was?"
Given they converse multiple times, I'm quite sure, yes.

"He said that it wasn't a precise enough description. Just… Before he… Went away."

Ah. "Because he was worried that he was gradually turned by absorbing dark energy to fuel his ring, but if he got possessed by trying to eat a dark spirit then that's a bit less-."
Bit of a jump, but if it's what OL would have done, easy to assume his counterpart would try something similar.

"He tried eating her?!"

"I don't know that, but it fits the observed phenomena. Okay, the next-."
And the resulting infusion of dark energy youmafied him. Sounds plausible.

"Warning!"

The world slows as I look around for-
Been a while since we saw a direct reference to his acceleration technique. One of those things he uses so much he doesn't comment on it at all.

"Avarice detected!"

-where he's going to appear-.

For a fraction of a second I see him standing next to Lushun.
...Shit.

And then they're both gone.

"Oh no! Your-!"
...Well, that's not great.

That's assuming he retains any of his innate statistics or defences here. Though he's a powerful enough wizard to hold on, I guess.

"W-? What is it?"

"What does Metalia actually want? Normally I'd just look at her and then know, but all I got when I looked at me was a blur and a mild headache."
Why not test your Empathic Vision is working right by checking Minako's makeup. Although hers would probably be one big mix of 'survive-fight-win somehow.'

"To flood the world with dark energy and turn everyone into youma! You've seen it!"

"And once she's ruined human civilisation and turned everyone into slaves, what next?"
Villains rarely think much about that sort of thing. Yes, let's destroy the world. You know, where you keep all your stuff. 😏

"I don't know."

"Alright, what about Queen Beryl? She must be serving Metalia for a reason. Is she still intelligent?" C'est La Vie nods. "And her henchmen? You mentioned a Zoisite?"
The 'Four Heavenly Kings', knights of an Earthly kingdom who served as guardians to their Prince Endymion. Beryl corrupted them when she conquered said kingdom.

"They're intelligent, too. And I don't know what they got out of it."

"That tower, in Japan. Is that where they live?"
Sounds like he's going to be engaging in some demolition, then.

"… Yes. It's also where Sailor Mercury died."

"We need assistance and more information."
Given the nature of Sailor Moon's powers, death is only a temporary thing for the Senshi.

"They won't-."

"I can mind control people. Either by altering their desires-"
OL, she worked with your counterpart for.. .Months? I think she already knows that.

"I know-."

"-or turning them into living constructs. It's not efficient against things with exotic defences, but I can make it work. But if they've had their minds altered by dark energy but left with just enough mental freedom to plot and scheme… We might be able to work something out."
Those that remain, depending on when this takes place in the season. At least two of the four would be dead by the time they meet Zoicite.

They're going to have to move fast, because Lushun being corrupted by the Dark Kingdom is a big 'mission failed' state. Not the best situation to be working with, but OL's faced stronger time pressures. And while the enemy might have some idea of what he can do, they've not faced an Orange Lantern like OL yet...

Ah. "Because I was worried that he was gradually turned by absorbing dark energy to fuel his ring, but if he got possessed by trying to eat a dark spirit then that's a bit less-."

"He tried eating her?!"

"I don't know that, but it fits the observed phenomena. Okay, the next-."
It never ceases to amaze me how Paul's never seem to remember the rule about not trying to eat energy fields larger then their heads.

"-or turning them into living constructs. It's not efficient against things with exotic defences, but I can make it work. But if they've had their minds altered by dark energy but left with just enough mental freedom to plot and scheme… We might be able to work something out."
Which is completely meaningless if Metalia is already free.

Saturn would have been locked down by Mistress 9 at this point in time.

So would his time travel stuff in the d c?Universe have also stopped time.Travel in this universe?I mean, I thought it was only gonna affect.D c universes, but now i'm wondering if it affected the sailor moon universe, and that's the reason. This happened because pluto couldn't pull her time travel shenanigans to pull everyone out of the fire in time to save the world

When I was a child, I watched Sailor Moon. Years and years ago... I don't remember much of it, really. Too much dissociation between here and there, I was literally a different person.

But I do remember a little. I remember what I didn't like Mars - I thought Rey was kind of a bitch. And I do remember that I thought Mercury was nice. Kind of shitty that she died here.

What about Saturn/Uranus? I think they came into the picture later but, like I said, it's all... fuzzy. Or just not there. Too much of my life is like a story I'm reciting about somebody else, there is no sense of 'this is my memory' but more like 'this is a memory I downloaded which belonged to somebody else'. Even little things like a show I watched for months in like grade 8.

'an'
'is'?
Next to me C'est La Vie readies her chain and compact. "He's not."
It's really funny that he's sticking with the jokey pronunciation even in combat. It can't just be a mistake because the ring would translate, right?

I was wondering the same thing!

It never ceases to amaze me how Paul's never seem to remember the rule about not trying to eat energy fields larger then their heads

So far it's worked out well for him.

He bonded with the Ophidian and now he has a cosmic entity on speed-dial.

He absorbed that Anti-Monitor energy from Devlos and defeated him.

The only time absorbing energy screwed him over was when he went to Hell.

So aside from a single instance he's had a fairly successful run at absorbing energy fields bigger than his head.

Which is completely meaningless if Metalia is already free.

Unless, you know, they have info about her and the fact that they'd be freed from her control.

What about Saturn/Uranus? I think they came into the picture later

The Outer Senshi (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) were introduced in the second season.

One presumes at least Haruka (Uranus) and Michiru (Neptune) would break cover sooner given end of the world, but who knows?

He bonded with the Ophidian and now he has a cosmic entity on speed-dial.
It also corrupted his mind to the point he lost his common sense and ability to focus.

He absorbed that Anti-Monitor energy from Devlos and defeated him.
Darvos was defeated by his student turning traitor.

Unless, you know, they have info about her and the fact that they'd be freed from her control.
They do not, we know this because Jadite broke free in canon and didn't have any information that would matter in this circumstance.
