Here's some tidbits for people who wonder why England calls a blood sausage 'black pudding' and why yorkshire pudding is a pudding when in America pudding refers to milk custard desserts and a few similar things, like rice pudding and bread pudding!

By contrast, the American use of the word pudding is a polyphyletic pseudo-group of dishes Americans thought seemed similar, and the milk custard desserts and blancmanges it generally refers to are not pudding in the British tradition, from which many of them originate. Americans just seem to have grouped them with rice pudding and bread pudding because of convergent evolution.

And because Americans weren't really eating any other puddings very regularly, eventually those unrelated but convergently evolved desserts were all that was left being called 'pudding' in American parlance.

Finally got around to reading "My kingdom for a Crown," and it's a masterpiece of a crackfic. I hope someday you get inspiration to bring it back from hiatus.
In context, "[several people are typing]" is still one of the funniest fanfic lines I've ever read.
