As for EtD, when I realized I'd hit half a million words, I realized it'd probably hit 3-4 million by the time I finished. That was both much too long for a single work and far more effort than I was willing to put into a fanfic, especially when the part I originally set out to write is only about the last 8th of that. I'm hesitant to declare the story dead, but it will need some brutal pruning before I continue.
