I, for one, still dislike this overpowered, sociopathic murder squirrel, that showed up out of nowhere and continues to be as suspect as the first time she appeared. Also, can't wait for whenever she finally explodes and disappears from the story, like Nazi Supergirl.

I recall last time it came up he hadn't seen 3 or 4 and a lot of the lore he's already established before 3 came out contradicts which we've found out so it's not like I'm expecting him to retcon stuff but with Metron recently matching his Young Justice appearance and personality I was mildly surprised with the Zor and Ursa details in the phantom zone.

I look around the café, which is located a convenient distance from the LexCorp office where Mitchell is for some reason interning. Plenty of witnesses, none of them showing any particular interest.

I've got a better excuse this time, but I don't think I've had an actual conversation with him for three months. The occasional 'hey' when we see each other when we're both doing other things… "You're right, but-."
Yes, I do need to talk to someone else in the city, but I can leap from one side of the galaxy to the other in a thought.

"I increasingly realise that I'm an unusually poor friend, but I honestly hadn't thought about it. What's-? I should ask him."

"No, I'm… Taking a year out. I don't really know what I want to do with my life, so I thought I'd stick with LexCorp for a year and see how it goes."
"Have you considered plumbing?"

"It's regular, productive work. And if you're self-employed you can take an hour or two out here and there for.. personal projects."
He smiles, clearly surprised. "Okay, but why specifically?"
"Jeremy Clarkson. An automotive journalist from Yorkshire. He once said that he'd encourage his children to try plumbing rather than following in his footsteps because people will always need their pipes fixed whereas the demand for journalists is decreasing. In Britain at the time we had a bit of a shortage of qualified plumbers and started importing them from Poland, which was worth it for them because the shortage meant it was pretty well paid. I haven't checked, but with the increasing drive for people to go to college rather than technical schools I imagine the same is true in America as well."

"And… I honestly-. It's not really plumbing when I do it, but I do enjoy sorting out utilities. My ring lets me comprehend them in a way I couldn't without it."
"I guess I can trace leaks easier." He shakes his head. "I'd never really thought about a career as a plumber."
"Neither did I, until it was far too late."
"And I guess that would be useful on Themyscira, too."
"You'd probably need to import magic pumps. I think Diana knows some naiads?"
"I'll… Think about it. So, what was it you wanted to talk about?"
I take a sound muffling charm out of subspace and put it on the table between us.
"Should we take this someplace else?"
"I think we're alright. So, ah... So, a few days ago we had a visit from Daxam."
"Mom told me."
"And I need more information about what's going on, and I'm… Not great at investigations when I can't acquire data via my ring. So I'm bribing a local to explain things."
His eyes dip to my rings for a moment before coming back up again. "Ah." He looks a little embarrassed that that's where his mind went.
"Yes, I could compel them, but I don't like doing that sort of thing when…" Batman. "When I don't need to. And I might want something from them later, and they've got two young children…"
"No, I'm not trying to say you should, just… I know you did that to Batman…"
"I didn't see an alternative there, and we were under time pressure. Here, I do, and we're not." Hm. "As far as I know."
"Okay." He nods. "So what do you need?"
"I raised the issue of the Phantom Zone prisoners a while ago with Superman."
"Right, there's where Ak-Var came from."
"Most of the rest are more serious criminals, and some of them committed crimes against other planets. I want to hand two over for trial. If I do that, I get access to everything Commodore Amalak knows about Krypton, all the kryptonian relics he's acquired… And he gives up his vendetta against all surviving kryptonians. And with that data, I hope that I can learn how to undo the work of the retrovirus Kem-El used on the Daxamites, which will cause Ken Lee to turn canary."
"Didn't you already interrogate him?"
"We were just trying to get the Daxamites out of here. Didn't do a thorough interrogation. And I suspect that he might have lied to me, given that he had no real reason to cooperate."
"Okay. So, what did the criminals do?"
"Ordered the-. He's accused of ordering the deaths of about five billion people."

"'Point the guns down and fire'."
"And… You want my support when you try to persuade Superman to go for it?"

There's a line in Transformers: Earthspark (a surprisingly good show, at least in its first season, for all being aimed at younger kiddos) where Megatron (who in this continuity is post-war, disillusioned with how it went, and pretty much allied with the Autobots, all the other Decepticons hate this) makes an observation about Optimus Prime, that I think can also really easily, and accurately, be applied to Superman.

Hopefully they're in a better position than their canon counterparts from the between season interregnum. Wouldn't be hard to beat that scenario, for cure.

Someone has probably asked a question like this before, but do you plan stuff like this ahead of time, or did you look back at previous episodes and realise that he hadn't talked to his old friends on-page in months?
Also, just realised something from earlier…
In that case, I demand more Mazikeen! He actually acknowledged that he might be some sort of father to her unlike with Princess, and yet so far as we know they haven't spoken in months either! Has he even back-paid his child maintenance? I suppose they probably wouldn't have it in her birthplace and time.

To be fair, the Team aren't his only relationships, but yes, I can see what you mean. Letting his relationships with them decay is a bad idea, especially since they were the first friends he made when he arrived in this world.

Yeah, but it kind of defeats the purpose of being a Young Justice SI fic if the titular team keeps being demoted to the background. Sure, I get that they would have little reason to get involved with the space stuff or the war with The Reach, but if you showed a recent chapter from this story to a Young Justice fan and didn't tell them what it was, would they even be able to tell what show this is supposed to take place in?
