With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

The below was written eith the aud of chatgpt as I did not know how to word my thoughts

Excellent question — thematically, Wonder Woman, Devastation, and Donna Troy form a trinity of mythic archetypes within DC lore, each representing a different facet of divine or philosophical truth.

Let's unpack that:

Wonder Woman — The Ideal of Truth

Parentage: Daughter of Hippolyta and (in most versions) Zeus.

Embodiment: The Logos principle — divine truth, justice, and moral clarity.

Symbolism: She is the bridge between gods and mortals, embodying compassion, balance, and truth through reason and empathy.
In this story though it was stated while legally Diana is the daughter of Hippolyta, because she was formed from clay in Themyscira she's actually the daughter of Gaia and thus technically a Titan.

Here's some quotes. I also remember a Renegade or mainline story comment that the SI suspects the Greek gods like that Diana worships them because they can dry extra power from it. I can't locate that section at the moment so take it with a grain of salt.

"You've got the exact same powers as Diana, right?"

"I can't detect lies like she does, but apart from that, yeah."

"Obvious suggestion that someone's probably already checked: is there any chance you were made in the same way she was? From clay and magic?"

"Um." Her eyes drop as she considers the idea. "I… Suppose it's possible. But, Diana was made in Gaea's Grove eighty five years ago. I'm sure someone would have noticed if someone had done it again."

"Not necessarily. Diana took me there on my first day on this planet and no one else was around. The area isn't restricted and Queen Hippolyta told everyone where her new daughter came from."

"Well… Diana was given life by Gaea. I'm not sure if that makes her one or not. The Amazons still have temples to some of them… I always assumed that the difference between a Titan and an Olympian was political rather than mystical… And I've never spoken to one myself or had access to a source I could rely on as being unbiased. I'm a bit nervous of beings that powerful, um-" I look at my lantern. "-present company excepted. So I suppose I don't really feel anything about them. Why do you ask?"

"They mostly did, but you know they think Brazil-. Portuguese society should just get out?" I nod, understanding dawning. "Some of them think it means all of Portuguese society."

"And they're hassling restaurants?"

"Some are. I don't think Danner knows about it, but he's just one guy and they tore down the telephone lines."

Marvellous.
Oh look, the completely predictable consequence of your actions predictably occured.

This bit is Paul basically saying it's not incorrect to say Diana is Oceanus' youngest sister.
"I'm the last person to speak against the relationship you have with your adoptive mother, or your relationship with Kon. But the fact remains that the magics in your body are those of the earth and not of war. You live like a demi-goddess when as far as I can tell you're Oceanus' youngest sister."

Oh look, the completely predictable consequence of your actions predictably occured.
How exactly is this his fault?

The tribes were making super strong members for decades before he showed up.

He had no idea that Hugo Danner was alive.

He didn't teach them Druid magic.

He didn't destroy Brazil. The Sheeda did that and Manheim finished off whatever most likely remained.

"Recognized, Orange Lantern B zero six."

I walk out into the Watchtower, and wait patiently for the machine to confirm that I am who I appear to be.

"Superwoman, B two four."

Identity confirmed I head into the meeting area proper, Kara glaring at the computer behind me. She could have changed it back if she really hated it.

The rest of Earth's kryptonians filing in behind us.

"Kara Zor-El, A four five, Superboy, B zero four, Ak-Var, A six seven, Match, B two five, Lantern Taranna, A seven zero."

Superman looks mildly puzzled as he looks around from the main computer control system. "Orange Lantern. Is this an ambush?"

From the intonation it's clear that he's 98% joking about the possibility, but is concerned enough about that last 2% to ask.

"Not-. Kind of." The kryptonians spread out on either side of me, Taranna hanging back a little. "It's about the Phantom Zone prisoners."

"Oh. Ah." He dips his head slightly. "I'm sorry, but with everything that's been going on I haven't given it much thought. I don't have a complete list of everyone who's in there, and I don't want to risk even a small chance that one of the really bad ones could get out."

"Right. You remember that I have dealings with a man named Commodore Amalak? That he's been hunting kryptonian survivors because of what General Zod did to his homeworld?"

He nods. "That's not the sort of thing I forget. He has my sympathy, but that doesn't justify murdering people completely unconnected to what happened."

"Completely true. But I've found what he wants in order to put his grudge-."

He straightens up slightly. "Zod."

"And Ursa."

"So he can kill them."

"He wants to kill them, but since there's no doubt at all in his mind that a disinterested person would find them 'guilty', he's happy for there to be a trial."

"After which they'd be executed."

"Assuming that they were found guilty of a capital crime, yes."

"Where would the trial be held?"

"Where would you agree to?"

He nods. "And I-" He looks along the line. "-guess you all agree with this?"

He gets nods, with varying degrees of enthusiasm. His eyes linger on Kara 16.

She nods more definitively this time. "It would be nice to not have to worry about Amalak. And General Zod deserves it. And the rest of Amalak's people deserve to see it."

Kal-El returns his attention to me. "And you've got a plan for moving him?"

I shrug. "It's not hard. He's had no sunlight exposure. A couple of tungsten manacles with gold kryptonite decoration should do it."

"And if he..? When he gets convicted, how does the sentence get carried out?"

"Plasma furnace. It's nearly instant. Though I imagine that if you've got a preferred method Amalak would negotiate on that point."

I can see him thinking about it. I suspect that if it was just me he'd say that he needed to think about it and then shuffle it back to the bottom of his priorities. But bringing every other kryptonian along-.

"You probably know better than me: what's the procedure for extraditing someone from Krypton?"

"There isn't one. Krypton never signed any extradition agreement. In theory, if there was someone that an alien government wanted extradited, they could petition the ruling council…" I turn to Kara and Ak-Var. "Did that ever happen?"

Ak-Var shrugs, and Kara shakes her head. "Not that I remember."

Other Kara smiles confidently. "Being a superior culture is about holding yourself to a higher standard! If anyone on Krypton actually deserved to be tried somewhere else, we would just take them there without anyone applying for anything!"

Kal-El nods. "Did you have a General Zod?"

"Yes, but he only attacked Krypton, so we were the only ones who had the right to punish him!"

Kal-El goes quiet for a moment. Then he nods.

"Xudar."

I nod. "I'll contact their government and make the arrangements."

Ak-Var looks puzzled. "Xudar?"

Kon nods. "It's a planet from the same Sector as Krypton.. was. They're spacefaring, which probably means that they have records of what General Zod did. And…"

He glances at Kara, who nods. "It's where Dad wanted to send me, instead of Earth. One of our Sector's Green Lanterns comes from there, and he was friends with Uncle Jor."

Kal-El nods. "And they've got a just and fair judicial system. I don't know if they'll be willing to use a foreign set of laws…"

"I'll find out." I turn back to the crowd. "Thank you all for coming." I

step out, homing in on a set of desires that I'm well familiar with and

appear inside Amalak's office.

"Okay."

Amalak's head jerks up, right hand going for his sidearm as alarms blare, drone guns deploy from the walls and after an instant marines charge in through the door. Thankfully, Amalak identified me in the first couple of seconds and is waving a stand down order.

"Sorry."

"We were due a drill. So?"

"Zod and Ursa will be handed over to Xudar for trial under your people's laws. Do you know where it is?"

"Yes." He considers it for a moment. "That should be acceptable. And they will probably have records of our laws and legal customs, so I won't have to teach them from nothing."

"Now, I appreciate that you aren't obliged to give me anything until it happens-."

"Oh, I think I can trust you." He stands up, heading for the door. "I can take you around my archive now. I feel like celebrating."

Bolded part is complicated, because it could either be "dealings" or "dealt". Personally, I would go with dealings, because Paul *has* dealt with Amalak on multiple occasions.

"Yes, but he only attacked Krypton, so we were the only ones who had the right to punished him!"

Bolded should be "punish". And yeah, Silver Age Kara is very nice girl...but she's *definitely* not soft.

"Zod and Ursa will be handed for to Xudar for trial under your people's laws. Do you know where it is?"

Bolded should be "over". Or just removed completely, it seems to work that way, too.

And Amalak, I understand how you feel, but in your place, I'd wait until *after* the verdict and the sentence has been carried out before celebrating.

"Recognized, Orange Lantern B zero six."

I walk out into the Watchtower, and wait patiently for the machine to confirm that I am who I appear to be.
A reasonable precaution up here. I wouldn't be surprised if there were hidden biometric scans for things like the Starro-tech installed, especially after Batman got paranoid. Well, 'after he got the Yellow Ring' levels of paranoid, anyway.

"Superwoman, B two four."

Identity confirmed I head into the meeting area proper, Kara glaring at the computer behind me. She could have changed it back if she really hated it.
She probably will if Kara Sixteen asks. Perhaps that'll come up at some point...

The rest of Earth's kryptonians filing in behind us.

"Kara Zor-El, A four five, Superboy, B zero four, Ak-Var, A six seven, Match B, two five, Lantern Taranna, A seven zero."
A good reminder of affiliation levels. 'A' for League affiliated, 'B' for the Team members, and no number for 'guests'.

Superman looks mildly puzzled as he looks around from the main computer control system. "Orange Lantern. Is this an ambush?"

From the intonation it's clear that he's 98% joking about the possibility, but is concerned enough about that last 2% to ask.
He's got fair reason to be concerned after some of the things he's had to deal with around OL...

Which really is something he needs to get around to at some point.

"Right. You remember that I have dealing with a man named Commodore Amalak? That he's been hunting kryptonian survivors because of what General Zod to his homeworld?"

He nods. "That's not the sort of thing I forget. He has my sympathy, but that doesn't justify murdering people completely unconnected to what happened."
Well, you'll be glad to know there's a non-murdery option. All nice and legal, in fact. 😏

"Completely true. But I've found what he wants in order to put his grudge-."

He straightens up slightly. "Zod."
Ah, there's that Kryptonian intellect!

"And Ursa."

"So he can kill them."
No, since you'd object to that. This is a bit more formal in nature.

"He wants to kill them, but since there's no doubt at all in his mind that a disinterested person would find them 'guilty', he's happy for there to be a trial."

"After which they'd be executed."
Now you're getting it. And there's not many people who wouldn't call a guilty verdict and death sentence over five billion deaths.

"Assuming that they were found guilty of a capital crime, yes."

"Where would the trial be held?"
Hopefully somewhere that will exact just that for something on the level of war crimes and genocide.

"Where would you agree to?"

He nods. "And I-" He looks along the line. "-guess you all agree with this?"

He gets nods, with varying degrees of enthusiasm. His eyes linger on Kara 16.
More or less, it seems. To be fair, most of them are in on principle.

She nods more definitively this time. "It would be nice to not have to worry about Amalak. And General Zod deserves it. And the rest of Amalak's people deserve to see it."

Kal-El returns his attention to me. "And you've got a plan for moving him?"
Shouldn't be too hard, really. I'm sure Ak-Var didn't come out in fighting fit condition.

I shrug. "It's not hard. He's had no sunlight exposure. A couple of tungsten manacles with gold kryptonite decoration should do it."

"And if he..? When he gets convicted, how does the sentence get carried out?"
And no worry about gold K exposure, if he's not going to be around for long to suffer the symptoms (such as his super-organelles dying off.).

And functionally painless, after the initial sensation of heat. By the time they felt the first pain, their skin would have already lost all feeling. Shortly before being reduced to ash...

I suspect they'd be largely ignored unless they were able to provide enough incentive to listen.

Ak-Var shrugs, and Kara shakes her head. "Not that I remember."

Other Kara smiles confidently. "Being a superior culture is about holding yourself to a higher standard! If anyone on Krypton actually deserved to be tried somewhere else, we would just take them there without anyone applying for anything!"
...And it's things like that that make us worry about your origins. That sounds rather imperial.

Kal-El nods. "Did you have a General Zod?"

"Yes, but he only attacked Krypton, so we were the only ones who had the right to punished him!"
I'm sure that one looked great in tights and peaked cap...

Kal-El goes quiet for a moment. Then he nods.

"Xudar."
The homeworld of Tomar-re, and other assorted Lanterns of sector 2814. A sensible choice, especially if he's hoping they actually don't demand death.

I nod. "I'll contact their government and make the arrangements."

Ak-Var looks puzzled. "Xudar?"

Kon nods. "It's a planet from the same Sector as Krypton.. was. They're spacefaring, which probably means that they have records of what General Zod did. And…"
And open enough to serving as neutral parties for Amalak's people and the Kryptonian defendants.

He glances at Kara, who nods. "It's where Dad wanted to send me, instead of Earth. One of our Sector's Green Lanterns comes from there, and he was friends with Uncle Jor."

Kal-El nods. "And they're got a just and fair judicial system. I don't know if they'll be willing to use a foreign set of laws…"
Heh. He's really uncertain of whether this will pan out, isn't he? I doubt he's hoping to keep Zod alive, but he's a good enough man to not want to see him die.

"I'll find out." I turn back to the crowd. "Thank you all for coming." I

step out, homing in on a set of desires that I'm well familiar with and

appear inside Amalak's office.
Is that the first tiem he's done that to Amalak, or..?

"Okay."

Amalak's head jerks up, right hand going for his sidearm as alarms blare, drone guns deploy from the walls and after an instant marines charge in through the door. Thankfully, Amalak identified me in the first couple of seconds and is waving a stand down order.
...Ah, it is. He really should be more careful around twitchy fellows like him.

"Sorry."

"We were due a drill. So?"
At least he can find an upside to the surprise.

"Zod and Ursa will be handed for to Xudar for trial under your people's laws. Do you know where it is?"

"Yes." He considers it for a moment. "That should be acceptable. And they will probably have records of our laws and legal customs, so I won't have to teach them from nothing."
Excellent! With any luck, Xudar's courts can move fast on this.

"Now, I appreciate that you aren't obliged to give me anything until it happens-."

"Oh, I think I can trust you." He stands up, heading for the door. "I can take you around my archive now. I feel like celebrating."
...That's going to be awkward if something goes awry.

Well, the trial of Zod is a go. A bit of formalities, setting up the courts of Xudar, and hopefully Zod will soon be a pile of ash in an execution chamber. I still suspect Clark feels a little conflicted about all this, but he's a lawful enough fellow to abide by the court's decision. I hope Amalk is too, if things don't go as expected...

Just to make sure Xudar has a red sun, right?

Bolded part is complicated, because it could either be "dealings" or "dealt". Personally, I would go with dealings, because Paul *has* dealt with Amalak on multiple occasions.

"they've"
Think you usually write it like this.
Thank you, corrected.

Oh look, the completely predictable consequence of your actions predictably occured.

Technically, they aren't. Remember: Paul didn't force them to commit crimes. They decided to do that of their own volition. Blaming Paul for this would be the equivalent of blaming a gun store owner after one of their customers uses a gun from said store to rob a bank, as opposed to blaming the actual criminal.

"Superwoman, B two four."

"Kara Zor-El, A four five, Superboy, B zero four, Ak-Var, A six seven, Match B, two five, Lantern Taranna, A seven zero."
'file'? Seems a bit awkward as is.
'Match, B'

I'm a little surprised Oh El hasn't changed it for her. I get that it's funny, but Old Kara wanted to be Superwoman and New Kara clearly isn't too pleased with the name. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason she hasn't changed it in the computer is that she doesn't know how to.

Edit: Only just noticed, but it's nice that Taranna is there to support her semi-boyfriend.

By the by a Xudarian GL Tomar-Re tried and failed to save Krypton from exploding.

A scientist before being a GL, finding out that Krypton had become unstable he gathered a substance that would stabilize the planet core and started flying to Krypton.

He was blinded by a solar flare on the way, which caused him to drop the substance.

Still blind, he regathered the substance and continued on his way, only starting to recover his vision when he got to Krypton in time to watch it explode.

Needless to say, he's messed up by his failure to save Krypton.

Although since Zoat doesn't use the yellow weakness (which is appropriate since GL doesn't seem to have a yellow weakness in YJ anyway), I wouldn't think the story would work here in WTR, since the same field that protects them from cold, heat, cosmic radiation, or no oxygen should cover too much light as well.

"Filing in": Indicates a movement where individuals follow one after another in an organized manner, as if in a file or line.

The SI changed it to 'Superwoman' for his own amusement. Why would he change it back?

Something like that happened. The precise details won't matter.

I was recently reading a fic where the MC said that Tomar couldn't have done anything because Krypton was divinely ordained to be blown up.

In the Sandman comics there is a scene where Despair is talking to Rao and tells him that even in great tragedies a new hope can be born.

That solar flair may not have been an accident.
