I love the narrative, but I'll say here and now that an action like this will be interpreted as "Mareinette, go find me a new contact" with vague mentions that it's for a future Moth Sacrament. For mechanical purposes, that is, because I really need to "translate" your actions into something actionable.

And if you guys eventually like the jerk-with-a-heart-of-gold that Mareinette possibly befriends, that's on you :V

Way I see it, this turn we intend to crush Copper like The Lionsmith crushing a worm, after which we will be safe(er) to resume our eldritch activities. This turn we shall make sure there won't be any follow-up from Copper's last available turn. I also note that our family feels unsafe, Luna will be able to help with that as well with her presence.

If the plan specifies Selene will guard, then Selene will guard. But if the plan has vague or general wording, I'll pick whatever pony is best for whatever action.

Lucky me, my plan addresses that already.
 
Several of the plans, Mine and Greymere's especially, have Selene joining in on the expedition to the grave already. So, the choice is between her Guarding and Searching for the Outsider.

I can't remember when you were hurt the last time. But maybe check the "you are wounded!" mechanics? Someone already alluded to them in the discussion.

But if you want the chance to heal two wounds, you'd need to spend at least one action healing. Plus, you already promised Mareinette one action. So, if you wanna heal two wounds, you'd only have two Velvet actions free this turn.

I was planning on Comet (leader) + DoA, actually, since DoA's specialty bonus applies to the most number of obstacles (i.e. anything not social in nature) and as a short expedition, it should be fairly easy so DoA can just brute force her way through.

Think of the racist village we found on our very first expedition to find Selene.

I believe the thinking there is that the Moth Sacrament doesn't shed anything, or just buries your self-hatred further under your new, ever-changing mask, and that Dancing with Death would have stripped that latest, most deep-set crutch away. After all, if we had shed the parts of us that we hated, then there wouldn't be a mask to see through at all for the Sacrament Tribute.

Are you sure we're getting the free Social for work-life balance when our current state is, "should be fully dead"?

As for why Baldomare instead of others, the big problem the Grave Expedition hints at is finding the thing. And Baldomare is exceedingly good at finding things.

It strikes me as a very reasonable worry actually, considering that if we were anyone else we would be dead. That isn't something that can just be brushed off and ignored, for Velvet or for her family.

If we're not having Rarity do Commission, I'd say bet on her passing the career roll and add her to the pool. She can do outsider search that way, an extra roll.

If we still get the free social, I think Mareinette grail influence is better.

I prefer Axe knock lesson, but all things considered it doesn't change THAT much, and I suppose if we're attacked and SOMEHOW a Windigo or Ash-ghoul reaches Velvet she can at least try to use the Keys against them.

Niche question, but thinking about it there is no reason to deny the free social action.

Free mansus action (and any Mansus exploration) is vetoed. Rituals are vetoed. So on. But... well, no reason not to have a free social action, indisposed as you may be.

I might cause the free social action to give you a malus to a healing roll. But since healing rolls only happen if you don't pay to auto-succeed in the healing dice, that is legitimately not a big issue.

The only Non-short expedition we have is the underground of Mt. Canterlot, and I don't see any interest in going that way. So as long as you have two free ponies, you will be able to have two leaders (and however many in the strike group) going either to the grave or to Copper.

It needless and useless as well. It gains us nothing and wastes Selene's action. We will have 6 trained guards and Biedde this turn for protection. It would take 3 of those new summon at max strength to stand a chance of cracking that level of defenders. And if we are facing down that level of threat anyway we would need all the names to not die.

And as Filthy Rich and Spoiled Rich are, respectively, one of the more potentially interesting Confidants (bcuz bits) and the current most palatable Moth Sacrament target (if we want an asshole) and therefore the ones we want to be most certain actually get a relationship level-up this turn (also so we can get Spoiled on our contacts list). And also since it's a two-in-one, it'll be less efficient so having Mareinette throw her ridiculous Grail bonus at it should countermand it a bit.

This lets us prep for the Grail(Mareinette) and Lantern Sacraments. If the first target survives Lantern, we can Grail them. Otherwise, we at least have a storage space for a future Grail/Lantern victim should we need it.

On top of that, we're prepping for Moth Sacrament, and we're rewarding the fears and loyalty of our family and subordinates with trust and reliance on them. Even if it isn't truly needed, it'll have good narrative effects, and let Luna start to connect with her bureau. Not that it'll be a major connection, but it'll start to build it regardless. Besides- we wanted to pony-ize her, what better way than having her daughter around more frequently and seeing her efforts to protect her mommy?

I'm very disinclined to bring any influences on Velvet right now due to her nonexistant lores. Her usual skill in navigating them is due in no small part to her reliance on Lore-expertise to self-medicate anyway, so the Influences are just more of the same. Now she's got none of that, already emotionally shattered, and we want to throw [An Incarnadescence] on her? [That Old Yearning] pretty much turned novice-cultist Velvet into a puppet of her impulses, and right now Velvet has even less resilience than she had then.

It's not a good idea.

If you don't know, it's an infamous fanfic about Pinkie making cupcakes that I think Mareinette would find very tasty.

I'd love to do Canterlot, but sending anything less than TWO Names there is foolish, and we don't exactly have 240 bits to reserve for that...

We need Luna on searching for the outsider if we want a chance of success this turn without Baldomare involved.
So I'd give her Commission again, as next turn we WILL need even more bits for Mares, Canterlot Part 3, healing ritual, and who knows, maybe a follow up on Comet assault. Also

Frankly, I do agree with you there. That would be a major bonus, and also have us spend more time with her- in conjunction with us progressing her friendship path, it may even provide some unexpected side benefits, narratively speaking. Even if only little tidbits from our conversations with her that can help us on other objectives. After all, she may become more talkative and willing to share her thoughts and knowledge as our friendship progresses. Or not. Still, the possibility is there.

I also wonder if we could social Beyond Reproach to get our main guy some insight into the Lores and help reduce and suspicion or concern he may have based on what skepticism we've seen him show. Among other benefits…

Below this are more just… wandering thoughts and ideas? Less important than anything else we're doing or currently working on.

Beyond the above, I'd like to work on 'Memory of Light' a bit, if only to get it off of Jade's sheet and see what it offers- if anything. What it offers might let us determine if continuing down that path would even be worth it still, mechanically speaking- narratively it likely touches on Harmony, but we're getting to the point where narrative and mechanical balancing is an issue.

The secret Library needs improving, we need more friends to use that library, and we need the actions that such would provide. Mareinette helps, the free social action COULD help, and other such actions can assist us. But again… it's an investment. Still… we could use a better library and more people able to make use of it.
 
I'm very disinclined to bring any influences on Velvet right now due to her nonexistant lores. Her usual skill in navigating them is due in no small part to her reliance on Lore-expertise to self-medicate anyway, so the Influences are just more of the same. Now she's got none of that, already emotionally shattered, and we want to throw [An Incarnadescence] on her? [That Old Yearning] pretty much turned novice-cultist Velvet into a puppet of her impulses, and right now Velvet has even less resilience than she had then.

It's not a good idea.
on the other hand the "lore of pleasure" would likely be the best kind of pain medication in existence.
 
Tbh, I have to say I'm not terribly interested in our personal Lantern Sacrament anymore

Our personal Lantern Sacrament is focused on all the cool bits of Lantern though.

The laying hoofs and seeing memories is one of the best parts of visiting the mansus.

Besides we've still got more cool things we can investigate in the Mansus which our personal sacrament would help with.
