I mean, to be fair, you don't have to believe someone (or at least don't have to believe they're correct) in order to empathize with someone.

I have nothing but sympathy for people with such diseases as schizophrenia or Alzheimer's. Those are horrific diseases, and nothing quite terrifies me like the idea of my brain breaking down while I'm in it.

But at the same time, it's easier to help people when you concern yourself with what their real problem is, rather than what they think their problem is.

Also: we've known what Bigfoot encounters are, and have for a long time. Excluding those who are either lying or hallucinating...

That, right there, is "bigfoot". Those are black bears: pretty small, wouldn't ever mistake it for a missing link, but could probably mistake it for a primate if you're not educated on the topic.

Brown bears, on the other hand...

Tell me this wouldn't look like the 'missing link' if you shaved it down like the above...

... Personally, I'd be more terrified of the truth than the fiction in this case. Great apes, historically, aren't particularly aggressive with humans. Long as you don't threaten their children or piss off the males during rut, you don't have much to fear. Should sasquatch be some sort of branch between human and ape, he'd probably be pretty calm around us.

Diseased bears, on the other hand... a brown bear is far more physically powerful than any ape, and disease can cause an animal to behave in all sorts of unpredictable and likely violent ways.

Chill monkey man... or dangerously unhinged bear. Which sounds safer to you?

Chupacabras originated from a lady in Puerto Rico who believed the events of the movie Species were happening in real life. Reports since then are just animals with mange. Dogs, coyotes, even racoons.

Stuff like Mothman or the Flatwoods monster is a combination of people seeing owls (some species even have red eyeshine) and the generally shitty ability of people to tell how large something is, especially at night.

Edit: For a good example: https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mothman

The barred owl down the page? I can one hundred percent believe someone mistook one of those for something else with their eyeshine. The brain is an idiot and fills in the gaps of things you don't get a good look at with whatever it wants.

Another thing about owls that nobody really realizes... they fly in absolute silence.

Yeah, it's common enough knowledge, but unless you've experienced it for yourself, it's impossible to understand how disconcerting that is.

I got buzzed by one of the local barn owls. So close I felt the breeze. Heard absolutely nothing. Lemme tell you, that got the adrenaline pumping.

Of course, my neighborhood is surrounded on all sides by forest, so I've grown accustomed to the wildlife and so it was only disconcerting to me... but even I was a little freaked out at first. Do that shit to someone who's lived in the city his whole life and I imagine it'd be more than 'a little'.

Fun fact about deer: They're much smaller during the day than they are at twilight when you're on foot and have just realized the mother is on one side of the only path out of the woods and her fawn is grazing away on the other.

I'm getting sick and tired of dumbass deer. These motherfuckers never learn and run around in herds, just standing in the road.

Im going 65 and either you get out of my way or I go through you, cuz I'm not gonna slow down for some tick infested idiot with a negative IQ score. I drive a shitty car, I can take a hit better than something with straw for bones.

I was looking through my old account on Newegg so I could identify the exact parts used when I built my PC. It was an average-build PC, around maybe $600... back in 2013. I didn't realize it was that old. Anyway, I'm looking to sell it and upgrade to something newer. Right now, the price of individual parts means it would be cheaper to just buy a newer PC altogether than upgrade everything. Especially since basically all the innards of my tower would be replaced.

I'm thinking of putting it up for $350-$400, with the expectation that people will offer a lower price. Hopefully I can get at least $300 out of it to put towards a new PC.

Also selling my Thinkpad T61 from '07. They are listed on ebay for around $150.

Listened through a few ttrpg games on podcasts, some audiobooks, hell I'm even writing stuff from a scanned pdf into notepad so I can tts it in background when doing stuff.

Just had utterly hilarious encounter on my front porch. Well, hilarious in a sad, sad way.

What happened? I had to run off a pair of door-to-door petition workers. A pair of fine, totally upstanding young men from the National American Society for Christian Ideals. Complete with blonde crew-cuts.

Make that an acronym and say it aloud. I just looked at them with a level glare and said "Wow. You fuckers aren't even trying anymore, are you?"

Fuck's sake...

It's so obvious I'm 95% sure it's the feds.

Pitbull mauled a young girl in a family friend's neighbourhood.

Fierce dogs. Wonder why people keep them.

*looks over at my lump of dog-meat, who makes me shove my fingers down her throat every goddamn day because somehow she find this less objectionable than voluntarily taking the pills she needs to not be covered in hives.*

Sometimes I wonder.

It's a problem with the owner, not the breed.
Sometimes the owner, sometimes a dumbfuck kid with even more dumbfuck parents who failed to teach their crotch goblins that you don't stick your hands in a strange animal's personal space.

Parents who, of course, will blame the animal rather than their own shit parenting.

Saw a video the other day of someone reaching into a car with an open window to pet a golden retriever. You know, those big, dumb, lovable balls of golden fluff? Doggo ended up treating itself to a hand sandwich after the idiot completely ignored all of the 'do not want' body language he got.

Point is, definitely not a breed thing.

Pitbulls are wonderful dogs when properly taken care of. Ive met many friendly pitbulls. It's a problem with the owner, not the breed.
Every one I've seen was raised properly and was a healthy, friendly enough dog....and then it went nuts out of the blue and nearly mauled someone.

Of course, it wasn't "nearly" this time.

Anyone noticed this weird thing in online nerd communities where they talk in a smugly superior tone, and generally act like everyone except themselves is an idiot? Rather quarrelsome too, and rather obsessed with pointless trivia.

Well....

My brother's room is basically an oven right now.
We opened a window and have three fans on in there, but he'll be getting a new Air Conditioner real soon since it's all mostly hot air blowing around.
The kitchen is also just barely no better since those two rooms are on the same side and equally vulnerable to the sun's heat.
And the bathroom absorbs the problems of both since it's above the kitchen and next to the room. And on top of that, turns into an impromptu sauna when the shower is on more than five minutes.

Dumdum also won't stop closing his door, which basically traped all the heat in more before we opened the window.

This is well after THREE (used/pre-owned) "new" ACs broke down on us all at once, too.

Did I mention its summer over here?

If it's hotter outside, why would you open your window ? moving aire feels better while it's moving but after that you just put your room at outside temperature. When it's hotter outside you close the blinds to prevent solar energy from heating your room and you close your windows.
Source: at least five mediterrannean generation's wisdom.

See the problem of that five generations of wisdom is that it means your buildings are actually properly built to handle heat. For places where such wisdom isn't present, or the builders simply didn't give a fuck, rooms where the Sun is on definitely get hotter than the outside if windows and doors are closed. Sometimes with them open even. Presumably it is the case there.

I say this as I sit in a room with everything open that is hotter than the shaded outside. Though only 30C so not really hot.

Hence the "if it's hotter outside". If it gets hotter inside then you should definitevely get outside air to replace yours. If you're directly in the sun at least partially closing your blinds or shutters is a must, even with shitty insulation it's better than a glass panel.

Wouldn't know what the outside was/is like. Just that inside was really hot/basically a sauna.
Of course, hot air rises. So an open window oughta encourage it to flow out.

Either way, we got a new AC in there and it pretty much cooled things down very quick.

Glad you're out of the heat, hope it didn't cost you too much.
