Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Honestly the talk about it not being good enough for his mother is starting to become really unrealistic. He improved a system with basic farming and mining on a single continent, to multiple continents, increased population a massive amont, increased tech level to a place where the empire itself wants it and has mining on multiple planets. He also recovered a ton of stuff from the old ship he found, and fought off a massive pirate raid with minimal losses. Like what the fuck is his mother supposed to want. Also how much power does an accademy leader actually have when they literally want to kill of a massively successful system admin?

Now we know why Thrawn was dragged off by the space whales at the end of Rebels, the force noticed he was too powerful now that he had access to excell spreadsheets & worked to remove him from the picture
at least he didn't get spaced out of the window, like a certain jedi master.

As always, feedback and commentary is appreciated.
I got some.

Other than Las, why is everyone playing with the rubber ball. In my pov, only Las could've been excused as he's a kid, and a governor nepo baby.

Not being a functional adult is expected, but imperial officers? That's giving me crack-fic vibes

Same with the Elder sister, tossing out money to make noise BRUH.

Same could be said on how fast he's able to develop Minda so quickly, but idc about the detail on that too much, only the seriousness of the fic.

Nothing. Both Zyx and Las said it in chapter 13. It doesn't matter how well he actually does because their mother's "standards" are completely arbitrary. Las survival depends completely on if his mother has had a bad day when she decides to do her inspection.

Which makes Zyx being hurt Las is cold to her stink of a massive lack of self-awareness, considering she's perfectly willing to let him die for no reason and she herself has said that if he pulled a runner to live an anonimous life in some no-name planet, she'd hunt him down to present him to their mother.

Las has no in-universe reason to actually like any of his sisters.

I'd say it's actually quite realistic given that she's a top Tarkin lackey

Oh, there's nonhumans in the system who contribute to the economy and aren't treated like subsapient organisms? That's against human high culture, throw them into the mines, now

You mean to tell me the populace genuinely wants to join the policing body and feels actual respect for it? Can't be having that, Tarkin doctrine ftw, kill some civies for no reason other than to make an example while twirling your mustache instead.

We're talking about the same guy who, knowing all superduperweapons blow up for one reason or another (you cannot convince me people did not keep a record of destroyed superweapons, also there were new super weapons every week in the clone wars and he supposedly served during that time), decided to build a massive fuckoff battlestation that can oneshot planets and turn them into asteroid fields, destroying one of the most culturally important CORE WORLDS (not some fucking rim world noone would care about) in the first public demonstration of it's might ... only to loose the superduperweapon in the same week & show the galaxy the empire is both ruthless & incompetent

Now, we know it's all the force since it fucking hates innovation to the point of having it's lackeys engage in near cultural extinction level wars on a galactic scale, but people in universe don't, all they see is that a superweapon planetoid just got blown up by what? 30 starfighters ... and due to the imperial navy being literally just a shitty police force whose most recognizable capital ship, the imperial (mobile opression center) is so versatile it's actually dogshit in all it's roles meaning they can't really effectively stomp out the rebels untill the fucking chosen one gets on the case since using Fear as the only motivator does not work, but people who masturbate to their own greatness dont understand it and so we get the OT

And nothing short of Vader showing up and saying "i like your work, we need more ppl like you" is going to stop the mother from tossing him to the infantry since she seems like a true believer

Hope she blows up with Tarkin btw, fucking hate people who pretend to have actual qualifications but whose only skill is stealing credit & mustache twirling instead of doing research on what worked and what didnt (if they did they'd have noticed how the sith empires collapsed under their own weight & how the only one that lasted long in relative stability only did so since a nascenf fucking celestial was micro managing sith bullshit and how they're a sith empire without the magicians that have power to bridge the gap between different departments to actually innovate)

If this is truly like this then there really is no reason to Actually do anything, he should be preparing to flee, and just abandon the world as soon as he can. It just annoys me even more that literally everything he does is useless according to this logic. Why even read a 50k word prologue then if it all just comes down to the mood of the inspector. Also our mom is not Thrawn, and having the same reach as him just because she is a liked underling sounds unreasonable.

The force being against innovation sounds like a really shitty reason for anything. There have been far more advanced empires, we should have a long way to go before it even becomes valid. The real reason could be that the creators are running out of ideas of what better to make than 3 iterations of the same superweapon.

Sorry for the hyperbole but the point is from what we were shown in these last few chapters Las' mom doesn't really care about the kids, what she cares about is them moving up the ladder, the ideology that is absically just one big parasite game that literally anyone with a brain will notice is unwinnable but the competitors are braindead nepobabies and occassional competent ppl who are all loyal to the emperor, not the empire and so we get the imperial warlords who lost most of the galaxy to the rebellion due to them taking advantage of the rampant backstabbing & infighting

To summarize this is basically one big "i tried but somehow THIS was not good enough so i'm fucking off" from him

He is, actually. He's setting up separate funds and stuff. He's just doing it on the downlow because he knows Zyx would hunt him down if he makes it too obvious.
I know he is, but like with the jedi ship, he could have just used it to gain the help of the hutt to flee. Use all 50mil(if i remember the amount correctly) to flee, rather than invest most of it back into the planet. Also the theory that his sister and mother can find him anywhere is also kinda bullshit. Thrawn would not use his authority to hunt down a single nobody(maybe put out a wanted poster, like wiith all other millions of criminals), so his mother would have to mobilize only her own forces, where she would need to admit it is her own son she is tracking down(which would not help her politiking). Sister might help, but alone or even with some help she should not be able to track us down in millions of colonized and even more uncolonized systems. We could have bought a ship we could live in for a decade from the money we got from the auction, and only need to refuel on a random planet every so often. I get that some of this is coming from the fear he has for her mom and sister, but they are nowhere near as competant as he seems to think.

At this point I am just hoping that after he passes his mothers exam(or she gets killed of, might be better), this story won't just turn into a politics simulator, where everyone in the empire wnats to fuck him over specifically.

Also just for the author, overall I am enjoying the story and all the little things he is doing. I always like space age colony building, and there are so few good ones out there.

But he does think his family are that competent, so that's kind of a no-go unless something happened to change his view.

Besides, leaving when the empire falls is basically the perfect event that could ever happen, a sure thing too, all he needs to do is just wait it out and change some comically repressive imperial rules so he doesn't have any rebel uprising before that point.

Or he could leave it to chance....

FOOL ! I already imagine Palpatine with a Excel sheet of a size of a thousand gigabytes at least for his masterplan lmao. Perhaps he will get "blessed" by him by leaving him alone in his system since it efficient and positive !

Thank you for writing !

Remember all we know of his mother comes from him. Nothing has shown she has actual power to have him removed. In fact his sister and his commander both looked at him as if he was paranoid when he ranted about his safety.
Would be funni when he discover that his mother is just powerless against him lmao. His smugness will shot up by 1000% at least when talking to her.

Or it depends on whether he ingratiates himself with powerful figures. Like if his mother wants to send him off to the meatgrinder, fine, but if gets a patron that is above her, who has taken an interest in his projects and efficiency focused developments, they could basically tell her to eat shit.

There's two reasons why this is moderately silly;

1) Having money when you run is nice. Having a really fucking impressive resume (even if some of it is unusable via infosec), set of skills you can demonstrate, tradeable knowledge, and goodwill/contacts/favors from other people is so much better there's honestly no comparison.

Simply cutting and running when you have 2 years to prepare is...distinctly lacking in foresight, shall we say.

2) You don't need to be some paragon of charity to want to help other people while you can. Hell, there's a few selfish motives - pride and spite to name two - to stick around and do the best job you can despite being a shit hand.

I didn't mean to run immediately, he could continue for the 2 years still, but having tens of millions yourself that were not stolen from the colony but entirely untraceable means the empire is less likely to send good troops after you. Also if you need to run then your skills as a governer are useless, since if you tell anyone the empire can find you much easier. If we need to run we could probably only find jobs as smuggler/bounty hunter anyway. Seeing as the huts who are far more connected in the crimiinal empire didn't manage to hunt down Han Solo for years(maybe decades, not sure about exact timeline), we don't really need to fear getting caught by a 20 year old empire that is already dealing with rebels(rather unsuccessfully).

For the second point: he is literally shaking just from meeting his sister. I don't think pride and spite outweigh that much fear. If he genuinely believes his mom wants to kill him of so bad I don'*t think he would care about anything other than running.

Also spent even more time thinking on it, and I don't really see why his mom would kill him of even if he does an just an okay job. No matter how you look at it killing you own son gives you real bad reputation with anyone maybe other than Thrawn(who has no reason to see us as anything but a competent governor, so probably even with him), so if his mom is so bothered about reputation having 3 fantastic and 1 good children is far better than killing the good one.

On the one hand, we have the possibility of his mother truly being ruthless (read: stupid) enough to ignore the work he's done and trying to follow through on putting him in the infantry. On the other, we have the possibility of Las operating off of fear-laced memories and blowing up the image of his mother into a tyrannical bint. Frankly, the former is more likely and while I doubt a simple commandant of an academy can do much of anything to a successful governor, he doesn't know that. How likely is it he snaps during the inspection, realizes he has nothing to lose and no familial connection at all to her, and just blasts her before doing a runner? Would be even better if his mother is of the latter possibility and survives with the knowledge that her son is so terrified of her that he resorted to murder before she even finished inspecting.

Honestly, a good source of family drama that I can see later on is his apathy towards his family, especially when the Galactic Civil War goes full swing. Like, we've seen his sisters mentioning they love him, but considering we've seen Alvi not willing to stick her neck out for Las and Zyx saying she will track him down if he runs away. Yeah, Las has no real reason to love his family and seeing how genuinely cold he is towards them might make them reconsider some of their actions or even opinions.

Although, it would be funny that later down the line, Las ends up having a better relationship with someone like Thrawn than his own family, because I do feel Thrawn would be pretty honest with Las and would give him actual protection, rather than just saying they love him but not doing anything to actually help.

Here's my question, does his mothers deadline end before the Deathstar blows up or after? If it's after I don't think he really has much to worry about considering if she's Tarkins top lackey, she's almost 100% going to be on the Deathstar when Luke blows it the fuck up. Las just might not even be considering that point because it's clear he's got some sort of feelings for the family.

Sister: Las, Mom died in a horrible explosion!

Las, tring not to cheer: That's so... Sad.
