[RWBY] RWBY Shorts

In the Ever After... Without all that nonsense at the start... RWBY comes across the Rusted Knight. He saves them from peril... And then takes off his helmet.

Ruby: "... Jaune?!"

Jaune: "... I... Do I know you?"

Yang: "Hey! Looking hot, VB!"

Weiss: "Very mature!"

Blake: "You're the Rusted Knight?"

Jaune: "..." blinks

Ruby: "You... You do remember us... Don't you? It's me, Ruby."

Jaune: "..." He stares at his hands, and then at them "I have been guarding this land for so long... My life... It is a castle built of sand. Each grain is a single memory... And the world is an ocean that crashes against it. Every time the waves come in... A little more fades away. I am the king of a crumbling castle... One day... One day, I will be swept into the sea with my castle... With the last grains of sand..."

Ruby's eyes become filled with tears.

Ruby: "Jaune?"

Jaune: "It is... It is all falling away. There was... There was a girl with red hair. There was a blonde woman who smiled down at me. There was a blonde man who held me in his arms and laughed... But it's all faded away. My anger... My fear... It's all being replaced with nothing. And I am... I am empty..."

Ruby: "Oh... Jaune..." sobs

...Imagine if Jaune's Nightmare in Ice Queendom was expanded in the same way as Weiss. In canon, he was "too weak" for the Nightmare to gain any power.

In a Trained!Jaune's case; the Nightmare got far more of a boost from Jaune than they did with Weiss. Not only due to Jaune's outrageous natural power, but also due to Aura Amp making things worse by furthering powering up the Nightmare as well.

The conflict would be along the line of: A [White Knight], the embodiment of Jaune's Will, Goodness and basically a Psychic Manifestation of him fighting the Nightmare's influence is still weakened by his insecurities and can't access most of his powers yet, while the [Nightmare], while far more powerful than ever they still bit of more than they could chew; since their "conscience" (or what passes for it) was actually subsumed and taken over by the [Black Dragon], the embodiment of Jaune's self-hatred, his suppressed yet massive anger issues, the smothering, overbearing and nigh-neurotic over-protectiveness AND the cold and cynical side of him he really hates and tries to keep hidden as much as he can.

It's basically a conflict between Jaune wanting to be the ideal hero his ancestors were (AKA: the [White Knight]) vs the reality of him actually being more akin to the classical Byronic Anti-Hero (AKA: the [Black Dragon]) and trying to reconcile the fact that both aspects need not be mutually exclusive.

**I say [Black Dragon], but it's actually a Black Knight, not an actual dragon. It's just that it represents Jaune's fears of people loving him only for the Knight aspect of his personality but fearing the Dragon aspect of it.

To further give an idea of the thought processes behind The Knight and The Dragon, and how they are still Jaune Arc at their core

[White Knight]: A Knight will always strive to do good and protect the innocent.
[Black Dragon]: A Dragon will always protect what is theirs.

[White Knight]: One must protect not just people's bodies but also their hearts.
[Black Dragon]: So long as they still remain alive and safe; they can fear and hate me all they wish.

Why not add the Rusted Knight to it, with Ever After shenanigans?
Jaune subconsciously uses his semblance in jaundice, so maybe the Nightmare could do the same?

The [Rusted Knight] is just a Remnant, a Lingering Will; a Husk that happens to bear elements of both the [White Knight] and the [Black Dragon] but otherwise represents the Jaune who gave everything he had for others to the point he "burned out" and only his Purpose remains. He's the logical conclusion of the Hero's Journey, AKA: The Path of Self-Denial and Self-Sacrifice.

The Nightmare can; but at the end, the Nightmare is a Grimm and Grimm have no Souls of their own. The Soul the Nightmare amplifies upon using Aura Amp is that of Jaune's, or rather the [Black Dragon]'s in this case; which only ends with the Nightmare overwhelmed and inevitably consumed/subsumed by the [Black Dragon]'s Will.
