With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

There was apparently something that could cause a schism in the Crown Imperium centuries down the line.
There was?
Dox can overrule Paul, but is probably fairly unlikely to do that in matters where Paul is an expert. Otherwise, I remember something about there being some kind of steering committee, wherein Dox has two votes, Paul has one vote, Hinon has one vote, and some random 2nd Maltusian has one vote?

Is it Jevek?

Is it Kalmin?
NEMO has a council of seven. Three Maltusians (Hinon Jevek, NPC), the head of the Darkstars, the head of LEGION, the head of the Orange Lantern Corps and the 2nd in command of the Orange Lantern Corps.

I wonder what the second hardest laugh Themascyra has had was.
That would be when some of the men of the JSA were on the island getting amazon combat training.
they had to wear traditional amazon warrior garb.

well that or the time Eris managed to get Zeus plastered and got him to hook up with an equally drunk loki.

lets just say the resulting child needed lots of therapy.

*Dons his bilingual native speaker hat*
Wouldn't Arachneros, with some poetic allowances, mean something like "Spidery"?
Maybe Αράχνειος (arachnios) would be a fair fit.
As I said in the post you quoted Arachneros is not a word, name or anything else but a word jumble in greek, Arachnios on the other hand could be translated as Spidery although it would be more accurate to say it translates to something like "of spiders", in the same way chthonios (χθόνειος) means "of the earth" (as in chthonioi theoi (χθόνειοι θεοί) - gods of the earth / more commonly (and inaccurately) translated as gods of the underworld).

The reason why I offered "arachnakias" or "arachnis" as nicknames is that they are what a native user would use as a nickname for someone under those circumstances.

At least I think that Zoat was going for something like "Xenios" and other such ancient nicknames that means as much as "X is what this guy is about".

Xenios (greek Ξένιος) is the title of Zeus as the protector of visitors and comes from the root xenos (ξένος) which means foreigner, not local or stranger and was usually used in the same context as the wild west "Howdy stranger!", it was NOT a nickname and it was considered a really big deal to not offer hospitality / philoxenia (φιλοξενία) to someone who requested it. As in offending Zeus personally big deal (and thus risking getting fried by lightning bolt). That said it is not that it did not happen just that it happening had very severe social and political repercussions for whomever did it.

Edit: Actually, given that Themysciran is closer to ancient Greek and that the somethingphile term started as a clear euphemism (philos meaning friend) Arachnophilos might actually not be that on the nose for an Amazon. Or maybe, a bit more politely, Philarachnos.
Finally the "somethingphile" family of terms did not start and is not an euphemism of anything (although it can be used as such). It means quite literally "someone who is friendly towards something/someone" (zoophilos (ζωόφιλος) - friend of animals) or "someone who cares about something/someone" (mousicophilos (μουσικόφιλος) - lover of music) or "someone for whom something is very important" (alithiophilos (αληθειόφιλος) - literally truth-friend).
What I am trying to say is that such a term could be used to describe him but not as a name or a nickname. You could claim that Paul is an arachnophile but it would be a description or a label.

on the "philarachnos" side of things it is not a more polite way to say he likes spiders, it means something closer to "someone who helps and takes care (in possibly the sense of charity) of spiders". See: philanthropos (φιλάνθρωπος) - someone who performs charities.

DayGrayven is a better dad.

Paul is a glorified sperm donor.

Hey now we haven't seen how Paul will deal with this situation.

Other versions of Paul have adopted children and seem to be good parents, so chances are paragon will also be that.

Even if he decides not to become a father I can understand it since the only thing he did with the Queen was give her a book and not a piece of his genetic material or anything like that.

This might actually get him to become closer to Superman, since both of them had a kid made without them knowing about it.

Granted Kon is technically a rape child made from Supes stolen genetic material and was created by Luthor, who is Supes ultimate enemy, so Supes has a whole lot more reason to not want to have anything to do with Kon.

He literally has FTL coms, he could have at least called earlier.

In Grayven's case he at least left his daughter living with relatives and then fully adopted her.

He didn't even know the Queen did this and it would be somewhat far fetched to think that she would create an entire generation of Guilders with the mindset from his book.

If he left her a commication device then she could have called him, or she could have asked Kori to contact him. Kori apparently called him of her own volition, not because the Queen asked her to.

The moment he found out she did this he went there.

the time Eris managed to get Zeus plastered and got him to hook up with an equally drunk Loki.

Maybe it's just me, but, I'd really like to read a fanfic based on this... Not the incident, the life of the unfortunate child.

Some think that Loki was the odd one out, among the Norse gods, not because he was a Frost Giant, but because he was a Finnish god...

Zeus is a (limited) shape-shifter, Loki is a master class one. What's the child going to be like? Think of all the aunts and uncles...

Who gets to raise this poor child? What does Hera think? What does Sigyn (Loki's wife) think? What do you do when you find your mother's other child is an eight-legged horse?

And the world serpent. And Ferris the wolf.

Edit: Fenris. What the fuck is Ferris the wolf?
Loki had quite a few children, Fenris, Jormungandr and Hela being the really impressive ones. But, he fathered them, the only one he's listed as being the mother of is Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse...

Makes me wonder if OL will ever run into the Norse pantheon, as Old Gods who otherwise just lurk on the background, rather than the Greek gods who seem to get all the stage time...

Or, we get to ask if the World Serpent knows the Ophidian...

Or, whether Anansi, the Spider, a trickster god, has anything to do with anything...

"Eris and Anansi, Sitting in a tree, T.r.o.ll.i.n.g." :)

Problem: Smol Spider says making them humanoid with spider characteristics wouldn't work because then people would just think she was a random humanoid doing good and not the Spider Guild itself doing good.

Solution: Make the entire nest into humanoids with spider characteristics so that people will have no choice but to associate the spider waifus with the Spider Guild.

What they need to do is involve a friendly Martian, like I don't know who, approach a posthuman race that like blending lesser races just to see what happens, and, Viola!

(BTW, that last isn't a misspelling. :) )

What could go wrong? :)

They may want to have the galaxy associate the Spider Guild with things other than just eating people.

The OLC may be less of a stickler when it comes to genocide and may try to exterminate all the various Guilds in the future, but this way the Spiders can see an opportunity to save themselves by abandoning their ways and knowing that they can be accepted because of the Vega Guild would make them agreeable to the changes, because if they don't see one of their Guilds accepted they might try to go out swinging, killing many Lanterns in the process.

Oh, I know. Seeing Thor: Ragnarok was a shock, because both the Wolf and Hela are Loki's spawn, and he's generally a family man.

I can imagine the next few updates focus on Paul negotiating visitation rights with the Spider Queens, return to Themyscria to introduce his new "daughter", and then find future babysitters in his teammates and (great) grandpa Alan.

Plus there's that scene from season 3 where the parents/significant others of heroes have a playdate with the kids, and a teenage spider girl is there to help while Paul acts as a host.

How exactly does Paul over rely on the AI function? Honestly I'm not sure he's using it enough.
Nearly every construct he makes is actually his AI and not his own skills.

Or did you forget that actually making a construct involves envisioning each and every piece of what you want to create?

As for the orange light, if you know going in what it does, and specifically prepare yourself mentally and philosophically for it, and you still come out some form of insane avarice exalt instead of a human that's pretty heady stuff, I don't think it's been nerfed, just channeled effectively.
That "preparing yourself" stuff is something solely created solely by Zoat to explain how his SI could use the ring and create a corp when nobody in the comics/animated shows has ever been able to use the orange light without quickly going insane.

No, you're thinking of the Green light of Will. Orange light simply requires that you want the construct enough.

That is the entire premise of the fic. Unless the story is not internally consistent with that premise and its ramifications, criticising it is not only pointless, but boneheaded. Next you might as well say the DC Universe is bunk because superpowers don't exist. Of course, they don't, that's the premise of the stories within it.

Yes, yes this needs to happen.

He doesn't use particularly complex technological constructs all the time and while he may need the rings database to figure out what something he's creating is made like, he still needs his own skill in orange light manipulation to actually pull it of.

Pretty sure that only three people have used orange rings in the comics, Larfleeze, Luthor and Reyner.

There may have been more, but Reyner was able to use the ring without going crazy. A handful of people going crazy by wearing something powerful doesn't mean that everybody that does that will go insane.

There were plenty of Red Lanterns in the comics that showed the capability to reason and not let their hatred rule them.

No, actually, all Red Lanterns went mad with hate and anger when they become Lanterns, and had to take a dip in the lake of blood to regain their sanity. The difference here is that the Red rings had magic used to make them, and the madness was an intended function of the ring, and not a result of being overwhelmed by the Red light, which is further on the spectrum than Orange.

Oh, well forgot about that.

Still in the animated show several lanterns were shown to be...saneish, at least enough that they're not raging berserkers all the time, and I don't think there was magic blood pool to help them regaing some of their sanity.

At least it proves that there are ways you can utilize a light further from the spectrum while still being functional.

That's not true in this story, and it's certainly not true in any of the animated series or comics.

No, the premise of this fic is "Self Insert given a power ring and thrown into Young Justice".

Reyner used an Orange Ring in tandem with the other power rings.

Not on it's own.

The Animated Series also showed that just being in proximity to the orange light was enough to drive people insane.

Also it took countering the Red Light's rage with Love and Hope before the user was able to recover himself.

Not on it's own.

Pretty sure Paul and Zoat have both said multiple times that all the wielder has to do is want something enough and the ring fills in all the details if they are creating a machine of some kind, but it still requires the wielder to be able to utilize the orange light safely.

The premise of this fic is to show how something that can be used for evil can be used for constructive purposes, like wielding a greed powered tool to improve society, and showing how supervillain tech can be used to improve society. The premise of this fic is to basically subvert the superhero genre in a rational way. Instead of heroes and villain creating tech to fight and crate crime they can use it to better society and enrich themselves, societies actually learning and adapting from various crises, like accepting magic is real after a mass murder caused by magic etc.

Reyner still wielded the orange ring without going insane and the fact that he was still able to wield all those rings without going crazy proves that the various lights can be wielded without someone suffering insanity.

John Moore didn't go insane. And it's not completely clear that Atrocitus did either.
