My new technique for character development is to spend time writing about the character in my notebook. I don't fill out a character sheet (although I do that as well), I just write about their thoughts, feelings, tastes, desires and history in a stream-of-consciousness.

In under a month and a half I've written almost seventy-five thousand words, and my story is coming to a close. The only thing I can really hope I get from all this is improvement in my writing. I hope all of this agonizing, fretting and frustration has amounted to a lasting something.

According to Patreon, I have to send official DMCA requests before they'll do ANYTHING, despite it being fairly obvious to anyone with two brain cells and a pair of eyes that these people are committing fraud against their patrons by reposting content they didn't write and that has been publicly free for months if not years.

I do ask every single person who messages me about it like you have to try and report it in the hopes that enough reports will prompt Webnovel or Patreon to sit up and finally take action.

But since I've had dozens of people message me about this in the past few months and asked each of them to send in a report, but nothing seems to have happened except some of the WN stories got deleted... eh, I dunno /shrug.
