Remember that Velvet is considered ridiculously talented in leaning the lores and even then she had years of getting prepared by a Name who was nearly an Hour and way more powerful lore knowledge wise then would normally have been allowed.

Celestia is going in blind here and higher sources of lore are kinda needed to rise higher. Which gets steadily more difficult the more one rises.

Just got to do it at the right time when Celestiais not around. Have a way to open the warded doors. Deal with the guards. Prevent a alarm from occurring. Then make clear getaway with the Mirror.

I have no real issue with joining the raid on Tall Tale if it wins, even if I prefer the Uncle Steppes FO. We can't just assume it'll be super lucrative though. It's a Bureau one that we're joining in without being involved in the set up. Even with their loyalty it's still under more scrutiny because they're government sanctioned. I bet we'll be able to grab a couple things, but we probably won't be able to just loot at will like we normally do.
Honestly the potential silver key opportunity and the chance at a worthy opponent are more tempting, even if they're unlikely in this case.

I imagine Baldomare's schedule for the next couple of turns is going to look something like T23 -> SH Sacrament, T24 -> Lantern lesson + Lantern Sacrament. Assuming we give her the Level 7 book at the end of T23.

Celestia is an alicorn, with effectively unlimited servants and scientists and researchers at her disposal, infinite wealth, and an inherent affinity for multiple lores.

And she's half an outsider.

The Alicorns are MORE special than Velvet, really.

Compared to failing her sister, being marenapped as food and watching Canterlot burn before her eyes. A little bit of theft is such a small thing.

Besides we can just blame it on the Changelings, I don't think it's possible for her to hate them more then she already does.
 
Assuming we don't find a Lantern scrap in the Mansus Baldomare needs to spend 4 AP total over the next few turns (1 AP on Beyond the Map's Edge, 1 AP on Baldomare Lantern Sacrament, 1 AP on Lantern Lesson, and 1 AP on SH Influence for us to finish up our Personal SH Sacrament). If we can find a Lantern scrap elsewhere that can be reduced to 3 AP over the next two turns.

We also have not one, but two important Expeditions to go on next turn: And despite Axe having 2 actions a turn now, it's likely that at least one of them will be a Long expedition and therefore eat both her AP anyway. I'm guessing that Axe will lead the Great Book Hunt and Mareinette will lead the Iotic Essence expedition.

We're kind of short on useful backup we can give either of them. We can add Biedde to the expedition most likely to contain dangerous combat I suppose, but there's actually not a lot of Lore levels to go around our faction due to Rarity likely being busy with Commission. And we're unlikely to take Jade off of studying an artifact for +4 Lantern/+2 Heart unless our scry tells us that those exact Lores are going to be needed. We also dont really have much in the way of duplicate artifacts for lores necessitating multiple wielders.

Like, Selene could go on one but that's really expensive in AP unless it's a short expedition.

There's a reason I've been suggesting taking advantage off our lantern influence to increase the odds of getting lantern scrap from the Mansus.

It's in the plans, Folllow the Plan, and, Killing Changelings in the Name of the Moon.

Also lantern influence for studying Moth books to reach level 6 Moth (which would probably be a good time for our personal lantern sacrament).
 
Notice how the thug buffed by an Edge influence was stronger than Shining Armor? Changelings who don't have access to the Lores will be weaker than Shining Armor, and therefore will be far far less than the 10% chance to wound that the thug managed to get lucky on. Not to mention the fact that we'll have an entire bureau worth of Constables at our backs as well.

I admit there was bad luck involved, but the same setup is happening again and people are just... cool with it?

Those that want to show off are not thinking of any consequences and those that want an alternative for the Edge Sacrament are not acknowledging a fight with a Worthy Opponent may lead to Velvet's death... again.
 
Look, unless the Changelings have been power leveling Edge in the aftermath of their apocalypse, they won't be that much of a major threat to Velvet during an all-out Bureau Assault. As we saw from the Comet Feet vs Shining fight, a Worthy Opponent by no means has to present an actual danger to you if you stacked the deck beforehand.

Tbh, I think a not insignificant benefit of going to Tall Tale is the simple fact that Velvet is an omni-Lore specialist whose currently supercharged on the two most relevant Lores when talking about changelings, and she can make sure that the Bureau's first real strike against the changelings goes well.

Or well, ensure it can go about as well as it can without getting the Name Brigade involved.
 
Yeah let's not oscillate wildly between "comparing two situations that are completely un-alike to be terrified of any concept of risk" and "being completely out of this world hubristic"

Slamming ourselves into Ruined Church 2 was hubris. Slamming ourselves into the Summit to search for the Malleary was hubris. We knew perfectly well going in that Ruined Church was DC 100 checks and that the Summit would involve DC 120 checks with severe consequences for failures. We had the rules behind Mansus obstacles explained to us back when we were first crossing the Blank Door.

A near-All4 Velvet with the two most relevant Lores having a max influence is something that could easily have soloed the Tall Tale expedition safely. Going with the full force of the Constables, which specifically have a power level of "You dont need to worry about them succeeding in whatever action they focus on" in exchange for the fact that they have insanely limited 1 action per turn... is not a material risk. Wake expeditions with relevant max influences are a danger that Velvet crushes. That's very different from High Mansus expeditions with no influences and 2 Health. Equivocating between those is massively overestimating Wake expeditions and massively underselling the danger of the High Mansus.

I still think we should make an effort in the near future to get Cheerilee to Confidant. I mean, she's a teacher! Surely her Confidant benefit will have something to do with teaching? If Jade can research things for us, then maybe Cheerilee can write manuscripts for us!

Actually. Thinking about this more. Jade's Confidant thing is essentially a free study action when it comes to artifacts and rituals, right? Pre-Lantern boon boost.

So maybe what Cheerilee could do for us as a Confidant is act as a free, nonboosted study action for books (so, two books per action). Just be able to chuck low-level books her way and have her turn them into manuscripts. Would be less useful than a straight manuscript, but also make more narrative sense. Like, presumably someone mono-Lore'd would have taken our spot as the Loremaster if it hadn't been picked as our spot at character creation, so it's not too out there to think that Cheerilee might be able to turn books into usable manuscripts even if they're outside of her Lores.

One thing I know I want to do is to get Jade to start on Memory of Light. Just so that Hour Velvet has a way to give Harmony a ring in the Epilogue for advice on how to push back the Wolf, since it once slapped aside a Windigo Apocalypse and whatnot.

Jade doesn't have any Knock so she's not very good for that kind of research.

Though I too want Velvet to create a path past Harmony's defenses so that Velvet the Mother Selene can visit Harmony and hold them to account.

She probably got some opinions on what exactly it had her daughter doing and how it treated her daughter.

She going to find out the truth of how much involvement it had in Selene's situation and if she doesn't like the answers... well then there's only one response a mother like her can give.
 
Hold it to account for holding things together for centuries after the Hours royally fucked up reality, the Mansus, and each other? We've been down this road before, the QM has gone out and directly corrected you on this, there is nothing to hold Harmony to account for.

The only two actions I haven't locked in who should perform are the two AotL and the prisoner picking.

Pretend for a moment that there is no dice roll involved, and that the chosen character will succeed. Do you all think Velvet would ask Axe to do it, or Comet?

Or rather, which one could make for a more interesting scene?

To be clear, there will be a dice roll involved. And Axe has better stats to do it. But I can't help but wonder if it would be more interesting for the Comet x Velvet dynamic if she asked him instead.

I'll probably have Axe do it. But the fact I am thinking about it does make me wonder...
