The outcome would probably be too much discussion time wasted on an outcome that doesn't play to our strengths. We're a high-charisma and low-manipulation build. Subtlety and trying to dance around the topic does not work for us.

Fair enough.

We are a blitz sort of character.

So can we use irresistible salesman in this case? I assume we'll want to burn a lot of motes doing this, but I'm not sure if mechanically if Sona could catch that we were using a charm to persuade her.

Should we stunt? Your writein is not a bad barebones for it I would think.

There's such a thing as being too direct too, you know?

This is quite true.

My feel for Sona's character is weak. We know Rias dislikes overbearing males like Raiser. What about Sona? Do we have any reason to believe coming on like this would backfire?

Well since I don't know anything about flowers I can't add any information about the layout -- my stunt is only concerned with the pitch, and a paragraph of text should be enough for a three-die stunt for a social attack. I did suggest to Alexander earlier that we bring in a pair of specialists but that's up to him to decide.

As for charms, ISS is natural mental influence. It makes us super-persuasive but not supernaturally so, so the only way we would tip off Sona that we were charming her is if we use motes from our peripheral essence pool and start glowing with essence. Use our personal pool and we can be perfectly stealthy about it.

I agree we should stunt it if we go overt.

I'm not fully sold on it, but it's...well written for that style. I'll wait on Megaolix to see what option he comes up with.

It's not that I disagree, but I think it's just way too direct. IC, Issei does not know Sona either. I still say to be subtle about the supernatural first and once Sona opens up the discussion that way, then go with full disclosure.

Actually we do! Remember Abe Kiyome? She told us about Rias & Sona being devils. So IC we know.

Knowing she is a devil and knowing her in person are two completely different things.

Hmm.

That...depends.

An attitude as a no nonsense administrator would probably be pretty public. But the objection is fair.

Alexander? How much does Issei know about Sona? Does she have a reputation even he knows about?

I don't know of any ways that the rules penalize people for being too straightforward. As long as we roll enough dice the results are the same. Moreover, Sona most likely has a preexisting mental image of what we're like based on the rumor mill. Trying to dance around that and pretending to be subtle is just going to make her suspicious of our motives.

Oh dear. That's true. Issei has a reputation for speaking without thinking as a member of the idiot trio.

Oddly...that could work to our benefit. Since we have no history of manipulation, she might be more willing to take us at our word.

And the bold is what bothers me the most. So we shouldn't care too much because rolls?

I don't care enough to bother fighting you on this. But if something go wrong, it's on your head.

Dude, this is Exalted. Anything you stunt will succeed if you get the right number of successes regardless of how crazy it is. We could deliver our proposal in the form of a rap battle with Koneko and it wouldn't matter except to give us more stunt dice. :))

I agree with Megaolix for a different reason. We're playing a quest & making a proposal OC is a mistake. Smuthunter & others have made excellent points why my original proposal wasn't IC for Issei, I want to make sure whatever we go for remains something Issei would say...

I'd prefer not to do that. It takes me out of the experience of the quest. If you focus on the mechanics too much it worsens the experience for me.

That's not mechanics, that's Solars being unbelievably bullshit good at what they do. They quite literally rape physics and probability even when they're just using an excellency.

Hrrrm. True. Solars can pull off unbelievable bullshit.

It feels...haphazard & inefficient though. If we go that route we risk bringing whimsy & silly in.

Just from a questing experience it feels jilted & strange to run across that. Can we avoid phrasing a proposal like "rap battle" just because it feels out of place in the narrative to me? I feel like it would take me out of the quest experience if we did that.

That sounds like a great way to bond with Koneko.

*Snort*. Okay Okay. Maybe then.

Let's save it for other moments. This is a permission request. I'd rather match it....say tonewise by giving a serious response. Something I think your proposal fits moderately well Smuthunte but I wish to avoid Solar Ridiculous for the moment. When we're fighting people or playing it for laughs we can do it.

To switch topics to something a bit less divisive.

What's our suggests on floral arrangements?

Koneko likes rapping and the idea itself sounds like fun.

Oh you thought I meant we should actually do that with Sona. I was suggesting for another time. Why the hell would we go through all that effort to convince Sona when we could just talk to her to get the same exact result

Oh more like...I don't want us to use a lazy write-in & then win merely on the basis of motes. Something that would have bombed with motes to back it up. Come to think if I guess I want a little reciprocity. A number of questers pointed out why my arguments were weak so I dropped it in favor of another plan. If we can throw enough motes to win whatever the proposal I'm irritated at having to scrap my own plan.

You know what? Can we drop this? This doesn't feel fruitful or productive to discuss further.

I'd rather get a better handle on the floral setup.

Should we propose to Sona what we would do to take care of the flowers if she allowed us, too? It would increase our responsibility in her eyes.

This is more work than you think it is. So, unless you want to cut training time for that, better not propose that.

Are there any particular colors that Devils prefer? Or say House Colors for Greymory & Sona's clans? It would be a small, but polite, nod in their direction.

Also I'd suggest picking flowers which are a bit more robust & require less maintenance...

I know next to nothing about taking care of flowers apart from how to pull out weeds efficiently and what not to do when watering them.

Ditto. This is why I suggested calling in experts. Alexander needs to approve them since they could be potential harem candidates, but there may be a girl or two in our freshman year who know a few things about flowers and could handle the heavy lifting for us.

Do we have a flower club at Kuoh? They would be all over this in a hot second after hearing about it.

That works for me. I'll agree with calling in the experts.

I have no idea about flowers. ???

Right, let's do as the above people say and bring in some experts.

I'm a little amused by imagining Issei's classmates when they learn he's supporting a floral display. I suspect that it might be received by the females in his class as one of those "unexpected depth" moments when they realize he's much more than a shallow, poorly spoken pervert.
