A slight tweak to the RWBY timeline. Isabel did indeed become a doctor... But her main focus for revitalizing Radian was to get its Dinosaur Park running again. Like in Dinosaur Sanctuary, an island was discovered with a lot of dinosaurs that had survived not only the KT Extinction Event, but also the rise of the mammals and the Moonshatter.

The fluffiest possible dinosaur, with it being competely covered in down-feathers as possible.
It could still be big and powerful (or very small and fast like a Raptor), but just incredibly fluffy, fuzzy and soft.

Ok I need the Lore masters of RWBY's help here.

When Jaune first showed Crocea Mors' collapsing shield function to Ruby, she remarked, "But it still weighs the same.", to which Jaune answered yes.

And this line stuck with me ever since because indirectly what Ruby is implying here is that collapsing mechashift weapons have reduced weight in their collapsed form. At least the modern weapons.

If it wasn't the case, then Ruby wouldn't have mentioned it because Crescent Rose has a collapsible mode as well and if the weight of it remained the same as well, why would she say this for another collapsing weapon?

Does this mean that Mechashift weapons are more than just clever mechanical engineering and actually Physics fuckery on Remnant? I need answers.

The implication from this is that mecha shifts do not change weight. Shield form and scabbard form weigh the same. How did you come to the opposite conclusion?

Either physics fuckery; or she meant that the weight distribution of the object in question (Crocea's Shield/Sheath) remains the same. Two objects may weigh the same but their shape may make it easier or harder for someone to deal with depending on how said weight is distributed.

I see, so it's something about the center of gravity of the object.

Crocea Mors has a very symmetrical design, so its center of gravity doesn't change when it collapses because the sheat has the same line of symmetry.

Yeah this is stupid. Why add this line and make Mechashift weapons feel even more weird.

Already Crescent Rose has so many moving parts that I can feel will fail the moment the weapon system gets contaminated with some mud or gravel. Now you add possible Physics fuckery?

Yeah, CRWBY just proved themselves to be as dumb as so many bags of sand on that one.

Humorous as the assumption of physics breaking is, the principle of charity demands that we assume they had been speaking with respect to Corocea Mors' gravity and balance. Of course, because we're dealing with CRWBY-level competence, it comes out as a pointless line that a character such as Ruby wouldn't have bothered saying if she were written with a decent degree of verisimilitude.

However, if we dispense with all pretense and apply what we know of the persuasions, beliefs, character, and competence of the individuals involved, the only reasonable conclusion that we can reach is that the line was put in to show that Jaune's weapon is as unqualified for Beacon as he is. It is hardly a mechashift weapon. Consider, all the weapons that we had seen up to that point. Crescent Rose, Myrtnaster, Gambol Shroud, Ember Cecilia, Adam's Jetstream Sam ripoff, Melanie's boots, Miltia's Claws, Junior's rocket bat, Roman's cane, Glynda's riding crop, and all of those weapons Ruby had been gushing about beforehand (fire sword and the like).

In short, the words of the sentence bare on its actual meaning only through some innuendo. It is a violation of the twelfth and thirteenth rules of writing fiction. They hold, respectively, that the Author must:


12. Say what he is proposing to say, not merely come near it.


13. Use the right word, not its second cousin.


Now I do not believe this was done maliciously, not on my second review of the cumulative evidence, anyway. This was written back when RWBY's budget was ten cents a Season, before the pandering had any chance to take off. So we can kind of assume it isn't on malice, although, knowing what we know about the personalities of the people who made RWBY what it became, I would not be surprised if this was an unintentional slipping or a latent tendency in thought patterns regarding what dialogue is organic and natural coming to the fore.

But I'm no profiler, so I won't bother with further psychoanalysis.
