Of course, that's a load of shit, but it lets us tell everyone what they want to hear. Kayden will know that you intend to fix problems, but you also express your desire not to challenge Max's authority, only inherit it naturally. This is hardly true, but we're very convincing. Nobody walks away 100% happy most likely, but nobody gets pissed enough to feed us our own daiklave. Besides, our talk with Max shows he knows there are problems with the empire, so your desire to make things better shouldn't bother him too much, as long as he thinks you won't pose a problem because of it.
