With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

I was more referring to how he turned Akhlys into some kind of robot, rather than just improve her organic form. Is that all he could do?

Remember, he was originally a forge god, even if he can do things like bio-tech he might just feel more comfortable using metals at the moment for things like this. And I can't imagine he would have had the facilities set up for making anything not associated with smiting/engineering before all of this happened.

Should probably give what's his name, Teth Adom? A heads up to not try a transformation until they figure it out. I know he doesn't transform if he can help it, but I know he uses it to shoot lightning in fights sometimes.
I don't think he uses Zeus, so it should be okay? ...I also don't think he ever turns it off ANYWAYS, so...
Also now I'm imagining some kind of Bizzaro Marvel, where he takes all the wrong traits. Such as the kindness of Ares, or the chastity of Zeus.

I would also point out if Hephestus is now drawing from Human perception of technology he should probably have the same problem the Bureau had in Control.

The seconds, though that's based on the first to a large degree.

His own or human R&D? He probably won't gain much in the way of raw power, but he's not really dependent on that.
I'm just going to say, the way people think tech works and the way it actually works are way different. And if Heph is based on the second, actual R&D will probably play a minor role in his work, and he'll probably be closer to a "it just works" perspective. I think the biggest advantage Heph will have as a god of technology will not be his might, but the fact that, as lord over technology, the human subconscious has likely given him power over technical difficulties. Imagine facing off against him, and all your equipment decides not to work that day, and no repair guy will be able to help. We've already had a taste.

Other powerful abilities will likely be the ability to design tools that perfectly fit a singular purpose. I think the idea of specialized tools is ingrained enough in the human conscious for Heph to piggy back off of it. The phrase "there's an app for that" doesn't come from nowhere.

The ability to divinely inspire nearly any and all craftsman will also be immense. It could mean faster development and mass production of schizo tech, faster development of magical artisans, who normally take decades, bigger steps into magical engineering, like thamosphere extensions, and even better magical mass production. So more gates faster. While none of that is really in the public conscious, possibly preventing Heph from directly doing that stuff, the researchers already working on it are working with technology, and so can receive divine inspiration, allowing them to work better and faster. And once they're done, their results will be technological, so Heph should be able to use them just fine

and he's got no titans boosting him any more.
Almost missed this...

We have a prime example of a bad author hand wave here.

It wasn't "oh we worked out something to cut him off" because less then a dozen chapters ago it was established that nobody could do that. It's just him randomly getting cut off for no named in universe reason.

CALLED IT!

But.. Shouldn't he just lose his powers instead?
It sounds like he can't transform because the process calls up each of the 7 power modules as part of the procedure.
To transform, spin up S, spin up H, spin up A, etc.
And has a wind down process for turning back into mortal form.
And his Z power module having errors is a gear in the works of that process.

Also, funny that the Flash told Captain Marvel that he should go see OL preemptively.
Like he knew the Z in SHAZAM was for Zeus, who OL was gunning for.
"If something beaks, go see the person who probably broke it."

He can't transform because Zeus's power is what let him call and control the transformation lighting.

Thor is public domain, but that would make it SHATAM...ugh
Need someone bigger then Thor, a big part of the power Zeus granted SHAZAM was the power to use and control magic.

Also as a side... Zeus's power is how Billy was able to reach the Rock of Ages... So there shouldn't be any way for him or anybody else to actually contact SHAZAM...

The obvious best resolution of Billy's problem here is for the wizard to take the divine reshuffling as an opportunity to improve on his original spellwork and improve the number of power sources his champion could connect to. The hardest part? Picking gods/demigods/sorcerors who can spell out JEBEDIAH OF CANAAN instead of SHAZAM.

Yes, after their first vertical tango, she wanted proof that he was really Zeus and ask to see his true face. So Zeus in all his wisdom showed her, and she died instantly. This ability is stated just two chapters ago. Technically Dionysus would only be a few days old at most when this happened.

I think Hera disguised herself and tricked her to demand to see Zeus' true face.

Yep.

Hera decided that for this murder of Zeus's flings, she'd disguise herself and make Semele doubt that her lover was actually Zeus and convinced her to ask Zeus to show her his true form.

Shortly there after, Zeus promised Semele to do one thing she asked of him and, IIRC, swore on the River Styx either for unrelated reasons or in response to her sudden doubts about him. Semele promptly asked to see his true form and Zeus, to his credit, did try and talk her out of it. Unfortunately, she was adamant and Zeus, bound by his oath revealed his true form and vaporized her.

Yea... Zoat kind of forgot that as bad as Zeus could be when it came to the idea of female consent...

Hera was much much worse and went around murdering women instead.

Yep. Hera has always been a monster. She's a greek god not named Hestia.

I don't think the egocentric wizard is willing to change his name just because a God got powered down.

He ragequit his name, Shazamo, when he and Oggar had a falling out.

So somewhere in the DC multiverses there's a Captain Marvel with the charm of Orpheus or something because the Wizard just got another patron.

"Oh. Hey, Paul." Captain Marvel smiles at me. "Ah, I wouldn't ask, but Ollie always said that if anything weird happened I should probably talk to you first, so… I am."

"What's up?"

"My transformation isn't working. I'm… Kinda stuck?" He looks at me hopefully. "You got any ideas?"
Finally a concrete in story reason to go visit Jupiter and see his side of things. It would make for the smoothest transition with the fewest changes for Billy. SHAJAM even sounds similar
