With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

How is assimilating an ally more of an option than temporarily joining with the snake? Never mind already going back to the High Father with somebody needs to be unassimilated It was very likely to get him to deny you.
Because joining with the Ophidian would weaken every Orange Lantern in the universe, including those actively fighting the Reach right now. Also, he's not completely sure that Superman couldn't still drain him like that, and he has no idea what that would do.

Okay, I have an idea: Why not just have your ring constantly make a deafening screech and also make you shine really brightly so that Clark won't be able to hear you or look at you?

The sudden loud noise thing only works if he's not ready for it, and is actively trying to hear something quiet or see something a long way away. Otherwise he can just work through it.

I will say that at a point like this 'phone a friend' may be best, even if it's just a burst transmission to Batman, Constantine or Vril for a 'any ideas?' while in combat. He has done something like that during the assault on Themyscira and Johnny Sorrow with the Guardians for 'how do I stop reality warpers. Maybe a neural impactor would reset his brain? Magic Soul Split? Off load the 'solve the problem' thinking to someone else while he handles 'survive long enough to solve the problem' for the moment. At these combat speeds and the scale of destruction that can happen, he's splitting focus when he can't afford to. A full powered Combat Focused Kryptonian is something that the Guardians/Mathusians should have records on. And while Clark is a pillar of the super powered community on earth, he Isn't All Powerful in the greater scales.

Alternatively Just Call Conner, Match and the Supergirl Squad and fight Kryptonian with Kryptonians.

I'm not familiar with it, so is this Torquemada thing (or whatever its name is) some magic BS that Kryptonians have at the same level of their biological BS powers? And the Eradicator program uploaded it into Kal-El? Or what is it?

Torquasm.

The basics were on the database that Jor-El provided him, and Karl Kant was able to explain it a bit better. The Eradicator doesn't have organic problems with controlling its thoughts, so removed some of his mental internal barriers.

No, I don't mean it like that. I mean emit a sound frequency that can hurt his hearing so that he would get disoriented and unable to concentrate. We know that those can hurt kryptonians, so logically, it should hurt Clark too.

Or to give you an answer that doesn't come from a wiki for those who made stuff up about DC comics-

Torquasm Vo is an ancient Kryptonian martial art which is basically using self-hypnosis/meditation to alter one's own state of consciousness.

Superman once used it to combat a telepathic reality warper dream combat style (You know, combat by visualization like oh you visualized an army, I visualize a flood to sweep them all away, that sort of thing) and used it to plant an illusion in the Eradicator's head which Superman called "super-hypnotism."

Torquasm Rao is a supplementary style/offshoot that is physical which fills the user's meridians with energy.

Superman once used it to speed up his healing by channeling the energy of the universe through his body, which Kryptonians call Shreearr.

Practicing it gave Lois an out of body experience.

While not directly stated in Countdown Arena there was a Chris Kent that is likely a Torquasm practitioner or just an example of what a Kryptonian is capable of with sufficient martial arts training.

Chris could grow larger, change what energy he metabolized, manipulate heat vision like it's a physical construct, and effortlessly beat up two other Supermen at the same time and it was indicated that was hardly all he was capable of.

So... essentially, someone thought "you know how Superman (and Kryptonians in general) are so OP? And how he could do some wacky shit during the Golden Age? How about if there was a martial arts that could combine both?"

... cool.

If he can be taken from me in the name of expediency, who else is at risk? Might Zeus decide to send Diana to Tartarus? Might the Guardians decide to investigate Alan's elemental nature by dissecting him?
Hah! Just reread this and saw a plot hook that'd been planned like a decade in advance.

Armourkineticbarrierbackupgravityma-guuhg-hr!

I'm… Definitely speeding up my perception, because there's no way that I'd be seeing my own armour construct come apart quite this… Glacially, otherwise. Fragments of orange explode outwards from the point of impact, air wavy where the kinetic barrier tried and failed before the might of a kryptonian. My armour's just caving in-.

Oh. It's not the acceleration. It's the kinetic shield misfiring. Come on LexCorp people, you're getting a free shot-.

And there, they're taking it, but from the determined look on Kal-El's face it's not going to do me any good-.

No, he's distracted, and the hydra heads are still worrying him.

Feel their desires and

I'm out move more! Throw kinetic barrier generators around him! And open communications with the LexCorp power armour people!

Compliance.

Despite having a body fully enveloped in a zone where kinetic energy itself is messed up, he's still slowly turning to face me. And based on recent performance, I imagine that he'll find a way to bypass it very shortly.

"Lantern?"

And my own armour pierced my intestines, liver, stomach and lungs. Remove it, restore it… And restore me

"Indeed."

"Did you get him?"

I turn to the central suit of power armour, which is apparently being piloted by Mr. Beatty. "Oh heck no. I don't know how long we've got."

"What happened with him?"

"Got part of his brain overwritten by an ancient kryptonian A.I.. Is there actually a kryptonian ship down there?"

"That's proprietary-."

"Not the time!"

"Just a-. Yeah. The science team weren't completely sure it was kryptonian, but I guess now they are. How come the kryptonite isn't working?"

"You guys know he's been studying kryptonian martial arts?" The armour nods. "If he focuses really hard, he can alter how different wavelengths affect him."

"So he's immune to it?"

"So he can feed on it."

"You taught him that?"

"I helped him find a trainer-."

"So what can we do?"

"If I knew that, I'd be-." The affect of the overloaded kinetic barrier fades, and Superman turns to the remaining barriers around him. "I'd be doing it."

"Fuck."

Rather than do the stupid thing and try punching his way out, Kal-El just burns the generators out with flickers of heat vision. How-?

"I'll try eating his soul, you shoot him. Hopefully he can only handle one exotic-."

I put effort in this time, a vague blur of half-familiar drives swimming in my mind's eye. And other things, drives that I know full well aren't him and pull-

Warning! Energy drain detected!

-as hard as I can because-.

"Eh." Superman grunts as the plasma hits him, and-.

Ouwgh!

Agh! Ah-! Duh-!

Okay, ow.

I pick myself out of the trench I just gouged in the ground, armour… Scuffed but basically whole. I suppose he's not the only one whose concentration can be disrupted. The hydra heads are still attacking him, but they're doing basically nothing. In the distance I see Superman beating Mr. Beatty's suit around the helmet and chest plate. The personal shield is holding for the moment, but I need to get back there.

Right.

Pull.

And railgun… Crumbler rounds and f-.

Huh-?

I spin in the air, armour fracturing and upper left torso pulver-move!

Ah…

Ah..?

Superman rips off the front of my armour, left hand squeezing through my construct defences.

Warning! Energy drain detected!

Despite his burns, he doesn't seem… Angry. Just… Focused.

Ugh. Fine. Singularity-.

Warning! Low power!

Oh fuck.

"U-k-!"

And… That's my body. And-. Agh! Pff-! Ground-. Calltheringcallthering!

Right up the… Windpipe. Okay, I'm on low power so there's not much I can do regarding the fight, but if I-. Right. Deploy personal lantern-.

"Thank you."

Superman picks up my severed head in his left hand, his right wrapped around the handle of my personal lantern. My other ring is.. on the ground a little way away.

There's still… Not much going on with his facial expression.

"This will make restoring krypton much easier. Now I.. can…"

He winces, doubling over and dropping me to the floor. Ah, right… Second ring, move and.. touch it to the lantern.

Recharge!

A flash of glorious orange, and call it back to my.. mouth, fine, and float up

Grab my body while he's doing… I'm guessing that a telepath is taking a crack at him, good for them. Reattach, gold kryptonite and punch!

He falls to the ground, weakly shielding his face. "Wha-? What's-?"

Check his desires…

Back to.. normal? No idea how that happened, but I'm not going to complain.

I watch as the battered power armour suits approach. I [could probably transition away, but those are light speed weapons. One twitch and things could go very wrong.

I'm going to try and work out how to persuade Lex not to shoot Superman while he's down.

Because as I said, he could easily work through it. It's like if you were working and someone on the other side of the room started saying your name. You'd be distracted the first time but once you realised they were doing it to wind you up you'd learn to ignore it pretty quickly.

I'm talking about a sonic grenade that he wouldn't be able to ignore unless he turned off his hearing.

Superman has been routinely exposed to sonic weaponry, it only ever gives him a brief pause before he powers through it unless it catches him off-guard while he's focusing his super-hearing up to extremely sensitive levels.

It doesn't work bro, his hearing is adjustable, you can't just overwhelm him with loud noises, no matter how loud.

Hell some versions of Superman have gone and hung out inside the Sun, nothing anyone can produce on Earth will ever be even a tiny fraction as loud and disorienting as the insides of the Sun, and that doesn't bother him at all.

I can't wait to see the massive mocking Orange Lantern gets now that he got his ass kicked by Superman.

Especially given the many many many times he's criticized Superman and others.
Eh. holding your own in a brawl for any length of time with supes is worthy of praise. If Paul had wanted to kill Supe's the could have, but there was always the implicit assumption that it's much harder to bring Supes back from the dead than Paul. Their win conditions are completely different.

I mean, this is an unexpected merciless kryptonian. I think the more serious member of the JL will know how hard an enemy that was.

I mean OL isnt even a Speedster! He just speed up his own perception and guess what action to do. And mostly, he can only defend himself. He cant even think of other things.
