Nope, doesn't work like that.I thrust my right hand through its exposed chest and yank it back with its heart between my fingers.
It looks at it for an instant.
"Huh."
And then its entire body turns to dust.
That was a specific spell that involved removing a vampire's heart as part of the ritual. But you don't actually care about that, you're just Vaermina-posting.Nope, doesn't work like that.
You remove a Vampire's heart whole and they have six hours before turning to dust.
One fresh vamp about to get dusted...12th August 1997
23:24 GMT -7
The revenant before me lifts the elderly homeless man up by the shirt and looks at him critically.
And they're preying on the homeless? Wow, they are new meat..."I 'unno. You carrying anything?"
"Don't have anything, don't have any money. Just leave me alone."
Demonic sadism. They might not even realise why they're doing it, just that it feels good for them to do it. I suppose having a body is a heady feeling for the newly vamped."You smell good." The revenant shakes its head. "Which is kinda freaky, to be honest. You sure don't look like you should smell good-. I mean, ew, right? I'm not telling you anything you don't know. But something about this whole situation really sets me off."
The revenant bangs him against the wall behind me a couple of times, like a cat toying with something that might be able to resist a little more if it were properly motivated. It's curious how many of them act like that. I've certainly never felt the drive, but then.. I.. suppose I'm not exactly like the rest.
Admittedly, Black Lanterns don't entirely sync up with vampires... An easy mistake to make, I guess."Hearts ready for harvesting."
The revenant looks around at the voice, its eyes narrowing slightly as it tries to pick me out in the dark. Their… Alright, our, vision is better than what humans have, but between my body's lack of vital function and my environmental shield I don't make much noise or reflect much light.
Man, Zaul feels really disconnected from everything. Comes from being dead, I suppose."Oh, hey." The revenant smiles. "Didn't see you there."
Clearly. But that's a statement of fact. I'm not sure what it expects me to say.
Accurate. But not entirely what they were asking, I bet.
It would be funny if all they knew of Vampirism was from Vampire the Masquerade or something... Thankfully, Twilight doesn't exist here."No, no, I mean Sunnydale. Is this, like, your patch? Are you in charge?"
It seems to find the idea… Entertaining?
Ugh. Almost as bad as Twilight... And why do I feel like reading Zaul's voice like Death from Discworld. It's not nearly as hollow..."I only got out of the ground last week, y'know? Still finding my feet with this whole 'vampire' thing? Is this face normal? Did Anne Rice lie to me?"
I take a couple of slow steps forward. "I did not know that. You seem to be managing. Yes, that face is normal, and I do not believe so."
But it's probably responsible for a lot of new vamps making critical mistakes about themself...It frowns. "Huh?"
"It is unlikely that Anne Rice has any real knowledge of the supernatural. As such, her misrepresentation would not be a lie."
That whole Black Lantern thing makes him really unmotivated, doesn't it?"Oh. Yeah. Huh, you're English? Are all English vampire, like, super old and think American vampires are making all our kind look bad?"
"I am indeed English. I can't speak for English vampires in general but I myself have existed in this state for less than a year. And while American revenants do 'make us look bad', that same appears to be true for every nationality of vampire."
And that would be his ring. Picturing a cold, rasping hiss of a voice."Hah, yeah, I guess the whole 'eating people' thing never really looks…" It frowns. "You wanna share or something? Usually their blood pressure drops real quick when I feed and I end up having to bite them in a bunch of different places or just…" It grins. "Pull off their arms and shit and just let the blood spurt into my mouth, but if you-"
"Hearts ready for harvesting."
Something he does all the time, naturally. Let him demonstrate!"-wanna share-? Or are hearts your thing? Oh, have you ever ripped someone's still-beating heart out of their chest and shown it to them? 'Cause I tried-"
"Yes."
Any human would probably be getting creeped out hard by this point..."-that once and their ribs kinda ripped-. You have?" It looks excited, and I can see the strong confluence of lights in its chest. "That is so cool! Can I just feed on this guy a little bit and then give him to you so you can show me?"
A direct question.
"Yes."
Yeah, like that. Bet more than the guy's heart is yellow right now...
Huh, someone rich enough to have a mobile phone? I suppose all types get Vamped up..."Is that like your ring tone or something?" The revenant grins. "Hah!"
"No."
Heh. Oh, they have no idea what's coming and it is hilarious..."Whatever, dude." It holds the man out in my direction. "Come on! Go for it!"
Wasn't I supposed to say-. Ah, yes.
Ah, one of the local rich girls. And not a nice one either..."You may wish to remove your outer garments."
"Yeah, kinda gets my engine running, too. Though that's not a vampire thing; I was kinda bitchy when I was a human, too."
No, your meat remembers being human..."Strictly speaking, you were never human."
It looks at me with a frown. "Ah, pretty sure I remember being human, dude."
I wonder how many vamps he's gone through this with? Because at this point, he sounds bored."Revenants such as yourself as demon-possessed corpses. You retain human memories because the brain of your host body has them, but you'll notice that you instinctively relate to them in a very different way. And I do not find violence arousing."
Well, at least the victim's mostly out of danger...It frowns, then nods. "Does explain a few things. But-. Oh right! You're not draining him first! He's gunna splatter all over the place! Just a sec."
It passes me the homeless man and then takes off its coat and.. blouse, dropping them on the lid of a nearby bin. It them removes its skirt, depositing them on the pile. Then it strikes a pose.
You heard the vamp, Zaul..."Yeah, demon-possessed corpse? Ultimate diet plan. And my family buried me in cheap shitty-ass clothes anyway. Guess I need to go back home and get my wardrobe back." It smiles and me and then nods at the homeless man. "Okay." It steps a little closer and holds its arms out to the side. "Hit me."
I suppose that's one of the few high points of having to do this: seeing that moment of shock and comprehension on a monster's face...I thrust my right hand through its exposed chest and yank it back with its heart between my fingers.
It looks at it for an instant.
"Huh."
Wonder how much charge that's good for?
Not a lot, eh? Then again, the more power he has, the closer he comes to bad things...The heart remains in my hand for a moment. Not beating, because why would it start now, but clearly existing separate from its former home. Then it etherealises, orange light being sucked into my ring.
"Power level two point two percent."
Sympathetic effect. The same reason shapechangers get magic pants...And then I remember then wonderful feeling of selfishness, of wanting and taking things for myself. I let the homeless man go and rummage through the revenant's clothing for-. Ah! Its purse! The first few times I did this I didn't separate the clothing first, and for some reason it turned to dust along with the rest, but now I usually manage to remember.
Yeah, he's out of it for the night. Just leave it in his pocket or something..."Here." I hold it out to the homeless man. "Not a huge amount, but it's probably worth a meal or two."
He's sort of collapsed to the floor, just staring at-.
Ooof, And now I really feel for Zaul. Even though I know it's bad, I kinda want him to get more lights..."Heart ready for harvesting."
Yes, he.. would be a good source. But I don't want to, and for now I remember that, and remember why. And there are plenty of more acceptable targets I can get a fear-filled heart from in a place like Sunnydale. And then rage and maybe hope, and then…
And then I'll start to feel a little more alive.
Are all English vampires, like...
It then removes its skirt...
It smiles at me...
And then I remember the wonderful feeling...
"Hearts ready for harvesting."

You might want to go back and watch the actual episode. That was a specific spell that involved removing a vampire's heart as part of the ritual. But you don't actually care about that, you're just Vaermina-posting.
Thank you, corrected.
Some corrections:
Are all English vampires, like...
It then removes its skirt...
It smiles at me...
And then I remember the wonderful feeling...
That... Actually wasn't intentional.
Yes.What a fascinating effect this has on his personality. He's almost like a robot aside from... what? a few minutes or so after feeding. This would make a pretty interesting - if hard to write - full story on it's own. There's not that many BL fics but few there are have MCs thought processes significantly less affected (initially and on the surface at least). Have you read 'If the Ring Fits...'?
1) He has no other way to rechargeAlso, if his ring can charge on vampire hearts how come he isn't topped off already? Judging from the number of fledges Scoobies slay per night (despite how little sense this makes logistics wise) there should be more then enough of them wandering about to keep him in high charge percentage.
It wasn't.
Sure he did; he used his hand rather than a scalpel or whatever but the only disqualifier I can see is that it wasn't for medical purposes and even that's arguable.Vaermina the Black Lantern just ripped out the vamps heart without performing any kind of operation or surgery on her, so yeah, dusting happens.
John had a good reason to do that.
I would think the corpse appearance of a Black Lantern is similar enough to a Buffyverse vampire that the vampire assumed incorrectly, and he's just a normal undead Black Lantern. Also, remember that Pauls don't have souls. From the language Zoat used he is a vampire but the ring bound his soul to his corpse so he is like Angel, a vampire with a soul, difference being he always had his, or he was referring to both of them as being undead and i could be wrong.
No... It means he wanted the rest of his body intact so he could get his revenge...The fact that the vampire in question had to go to a specialist demon surgeon kind of implicitly means there's some special procedure involved to avoid getting dusted. Not that you can just rip out the heart any way you like.
Oh right forgot about that... thinking about that what would a soul created by wearing a Black Power Ring would do i wonder, probably be pretty predisposed towards being undead.I would think the corpse appearance of a Black Lantern is similar enough to a Buffyverse vampire that the vampire assumed incorrectly, and he's just a normal undead Black Lantern. Also, remember that Pauls don't have souls.
Gah! Don't SAY things like that. Use a comma please.
