Esquestria: The House of the Sun - A pony cultist experience

What I'm trying to figure is who they could possibly be. With the exception of Axe all of the Names have been canon characters, and even Axe has solid lore backing.

But Forge? It can't be Crucible, since he's, well... So who or what could it be? I'm honestly rather impatient to find out, especially since we'd be able to start building things with the eldritch personification of Industry on payroll.
Yeah, this is a fun question to ponder on. I wrote few Apocrypha wondering if it was Menhit but we got a "He" when Biedde chatted with Baldomare so doesn't look like she's the Edge name, or the Forge/Edge name.
 
Everyone is talking about Copper raid, but I am actually looking forward to our talk with Mayor Mare. Imagine how terrified she would be if given orders to come to Velvet's mansion. Or even escorted there by Bureau's ponies. :V

Perhaps we will talk about Ponyville security? We still don't know who is in charge of Ponyville police or any changes that came with recent expansion.

With Cherilee I think we can talk about school security. Or perhaps current classes and any changes to them. Like introducing Emergency Management classes or having self defense lessons. Is Comet any good with foals?

As for Applejack only think I can come up is farm protection. I think they are closer to Everfree forest, so have better defenses? And Applejack is Forge pony. Maybe we can hire her to improve defenses around our farm, like installing nonlethal traps everywhere.
 
That not-cult is getting sus
I didn't get to commenting when that last update actually came out, but reading it made me want to kill it with fire 😆😨 just due to being scared of it getting out of hoof and wanting fewer competing lore-equipped factions (although that ship has mostly sailed). Grimdark: Since it's our own daughter leading the not-cult and potentially eventually being a danger, in a way the relationship that the Master wanted with Cadance happened between us and Soft Sweeps.

Also I thought of something brilliant (probably) too late: instead of a random contact, we could finally meet Velvet Wings if the QM is willing to write it such that he comes to us, since it's always been a separate action that meets him. (If I recall, Rarity sounded quite interested the first time she heard of his existence.)
 
Soft's cult grows with her, as she in turn sinks as we sink. If we don't want them to be a problem then there's a simple enough solution, don't make them a problem.

Applejack has perspective on losing parents, she probably understands Silky's worries very well. I think there's potential narrative ground there, by way of Apple Bloom being worried about her friend but not quite understanding how to help her due to being too young to really remember her own mother.

Hmm, The Madrugad is an Hour, the Forge/Lantern/Winter Hour. There's precedent for Forge/Winter. Though considering there's no precedent at all for Grail/Forge it's clear the examples the Hours set are far from inviolate.

Sorry to bother you, but I noticed that the word "figurehead" is consistently misused in the text trying to convey that someone is important and a leader. Its meaning is a bit different.

Nothing to really vote on. The differences between plans are minor and cosmetic, hidden in chaff. All of the plans are essentially "1. scry-and-die with your best 2. loot unrelated stuff with leftovers 3. mc is almost dead and useless now, so she does previously neglected socials" with somewhat different wording.
Any measurable differences in execution will be due to dice rolls or quest writer's personal preferences.

I (and maybe some other people) might have preferred a plan with fallbacks. Something like "Scry then attack, adjust team and gear based on intel, but if first scry fails then do another scry and only then attack, if both scrys fail then something fishy, delay attack until mundane investigation brings results." But conditionals are not allowed, so there is no point.
I am still not so fond of everyone wanting to attack before the Bureau gets our Names more info to work with.
Eh, that's kinda makes the most sense. If Name-powered scrying and searching won't be able to uncover enough data for the attack, then mundane investigation won't be effective enough to matter either.
And if the attack is performed after investigation, then it creates its own set of problems. It would at least clearly alarm the LB that the fresh ongoing investigation is already leaking. And if the detectives directly run into the supernatural strike team it risks friendly fire and our widely blown cover.
Why are we prioritizing Copper in the current plans again?
She is the enemy, she has the means, she has the motive, she is mortal.

Biedde in particular has built his immortal existence on embodying these concepts, he'd damn well better be able to manage raiding a barely-Branded Grail adept and her pack of criminals masquerading as a cult.

That's actually an interesting thought I just had; the speculative presumption is that Names become more willing to exert themselves (expressed as better mechanical benefits) as we befriend them, but how would that work with Biedde who expressly cannot be befriended? Perhaps funding his hunts and religious duties gets us into a better Colonel-Approved service plan?

He can't be befriended as long as he's in the Colonel's service.

So maybe he can be befriended if we kill the Colonel.

That does assume Biedde's dyad partner is the Forge Name, though, and not just a plot device for Bird to pull out later. Which it may or may not.

Our master was serious because he was a player, and he was a player because we picked the moth cult in character creation.

What could have happened to make Neighna a player when she was not for centuries?

Right now the only way I know of to turn a Name into a master-tier threat is basically try to kill Mareinette. And only because she's FULLY in the Wake.

There's some hints that the Heir of the Moth was closer to an hour then a Name. Their lores levels were better then other Name. (disadvantages included being mostly stuck in the Woods and having a bad memory).
From my understanding Master's lores being higher was just to show he was more serious.

(Sometimes I think 1 RA was actually a pretty small price to pay to get rid of him…)

I wasn't talking about tactical decisions (like "do it gently, please" or "use Grail-suck on Copper" written out in some of the plans). These are exactly the player-uncontrolled details that get determined by dice and QM writing.
I was talking about operational decisions, ones that are actual player choices for the turn plan. Like what rituals and who casts them, to go before or after the investigation, total allocated strike team numbers and gear. Ideally they should have been conditional. Like:
[x]Reserve funds and manpower for two scrying rituals,
  • if the first one is successful enough, go with the attack and don't perform the second one, use the action for Outsider search or something else;
  • if the first one fails, cast the second one and then attack;
  • if both fail, hold, wait until mundane detectives deliver something...
But conditional plans are a mess for any PbP GM to work with, so it's no surprise the he doesn't allow them.

Neighnia is fully in the Wake though, and it's kinda implied that we're trying to kill her if we can't get her bindings.
I imagine we'd go basically in order of

1)try to get her bindings, either forced from Copper or by making a deal with Neighnia.

2)reach a satisfactory deal with Neighnia if at all possible.


Also I'm not even sure we CAN kill Neighnia.

While the scrying ritual both explicitly has success thresholds and its results are important for crucial imminent action. So prioritizing the former over the latter looks unwise to me. But such was the players' choice.

It wasn't actually our choice. Qm picks the actions out followers do from our list of picked follower actions (except for the ones that REQUIRE a specific follower, like Rarity Commission, Selene training or Name lore lessons/influences), and he said he optimizes them in terms of "who is most suitable to do X".

In addition to that I don't remember the exact number, but with our current set of followers searching for the outsider I think we have something like an 80% of finding it this turn... And keep in mind, THIS IS OUR CURRENT WIN CONDITION.

As best we can guess it goes

1)find outsider location

2)actually reach the outsider

3)kill the outsider and get their blood (requires having visited the Malleary in the Mansus

4) open the Tricuspid and step into Glory

5)???

6)PROFIT either we won and the quest is over, or we AT LEAST become a Long and get a major power-up

In addition she's got that whole retrocausality thing going on according to the game, classic "she never spoke but I remember every word she said" business. I suspect our lot could easily find that Copper simply has a perfectly mundane painting on the wall that has not a trace of Winter about it. Sure, Baldomare can tell that the painting could be Neighnia, but at that moment it is in fact just a painting.

Well, Winter Long can't be killed, but they can be damaged pretty hard. Coseley is not really all there when met in BoH. That's rumored to be the result of an Apostle run from CS.
And while it is likely Neighnia is extremely hard to kill even when compared to other Names (and I'd remind you how hard it was to kill Master, it was sdone channeling an Hour in his weakest moment), she can, at least, be sent back to Mansus or made to need a very long time to recuperate.
However, this also strengthens a bargaining position with her: after all, with 3 combat-oriented Names against her it is very likely she would concede in some way. Maybe even in a way of voluntary accepting a binding, but I don't think to that level.
 
I don't suppose the amount of effort is on how much she cares? Because then the answer is -- not very.

If the historians wanted to come up with a name for this upcoming night, I wonder what it would be? Night of Wrath? That would be Nox Irae, right? Or maybe they would put a spin on it and call it Nyx Irae, since there's a Winter Name.

Mareinette can have a little taste of Copper Secateur as a treat.
 
Heh, for a random thought imagine if Neighnia has a trait somewhere along the lines of:

[Inanimate]- Neighnia counts as an artifact instead of a summon for all cases where the distinction matters. She is just a painting after all...

So she's a frighteningly effective Winter artifact, but she can't take independent actions. Or at least not ones that require she interact with the physical world. Just a passing idea that stuck in my head and refused to come loose.

Also, I agree with the general sentiment of "why few voters".
Well, first of all, 29 voters is not "a few" in my opinion :V
But really, Velvet's actions are shot this turn. And we all agree that "we want to clap back at Copper". So everyone agreed in the broad strokes, and no plan really diverged from the broad strokes. So, the variances were only in the details.

I'm calling it now: Selene will reveal herself to Copper just before she is killed by one of the Names(or maybe she will do it herself, she does have a Winter Realization to reach), taunt her and maybe make a speech that has something like "that's what happens when you hurt my family" in it.

good guess. Narratively speaking searching her dreams is an obvious way to find out about her location, resources and/or plans.

I was personally guessing some interesting interactions with the Names though. New demigoddes to old demigods.
