Nekron predates life as a concept in the DC universe. He's the cosmic "Get of my lawn!" man, that's the entire point of his motivation in Blackest Night.

Death by definition cannot predate life, since death is the cessation of life.

Logically, Nekron would represent not death but the absence of life, just as darkness is the absence of light. You know, since Nekron was the primordial darkness before "Let there be light."

Oblivion instead of death, really, but calling them "dark lanterns" instead of "black lanterns" would break the color name scheme.

Didn't stop them with Kilowog, but they didn't even give him a ring, but a scythe.

Mason did a terrific job with the role of Desire.

Desperation makes for clever adaptions. I can't imagine that's helping their biosphere any, but given OL's previous treatment of the planet, it's already dying. Though if Hesk's ship gets a shot off, that will deteriorate rapidly, I bet.

Paul is weak in the fight because a) he is ‘fighting’ to preserve the lives of people he doesn’t actually want to save and b) is dealing with the conflict of wanting to be like the moral paragons he idolises while still thinking their methods are needlessly inefficient.
