With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

I like to imagine that concrete does exist on Ashan and Lushun simply hasn't heard of it. Always gets a laugh out of me when something like that happens in an isekai.
I suppose that it's not impossible.
'it'?
'me'
'then'
'tries'
Add a space between the two.
"wants to just"
Thank you, corrected.
I don't think he did.
The post-credit scene is Kiva making him put it back together.
Rude. Traditionally magical girls are supposed to announce themselves before they start attacking. Make a speech about love and or justice.
Venus has had a really hard time.
@Mr Zoat - Odd question. Does Paul say his Latern oath anymore? And what is it now?
Not often. He still does sometimes, but he didn't always do it back near the start of the story either.

I assume he doesn't recognize her due to the lack of giant anime eyes when meeting in person, a bit like Grayven exclaiming the lack of the big jaw lines on justice lord earth.
It doesn't help, but the non-Moon Sailor Guardians are a good deal less recognisable.

Paul is familiar with Sailor Moon (or at last tried to talk someone in the past to wear a sailor costume to Halloween) so I imagine he'd recognize a Sailor Senshi and not call them strippers

Nah, Usagi has class.

This is obviously Jadeite.

The odd thing is Paul knows about Sailor Moon at least enough to make a costume for Artemis for Halloween. She complained about how short the skirt is and Paul acquiesed to her request for something to cover herself up, which he provided via bike shorts. So I'd assume he'd recognize one of the Sailor Senshi.

Good point. If it actually was Usagi, Paul would have pointed it out, because he would be familiar with Sailor Moon and would have recognized her.

Given the original premise of Zor changing timelines of protagonist characters the best bet here is this version of Sailor Moon was a pyrrhic victory/defeat and the sailor scout attacking Paul is one of the surviving members with an itchy trigger finger, with Blaze and Maz stuck in timelines where things went bad for either them or people they know. A few more jumps to Bad End timelines recruiting people who want to change the outcomes of their lives or ensure it doesn't happen to others, maybe having to fight some specter of Zor himself, and the end result being a few recruited companions leaving to their original worlds with a few joining Paul to live on Earth-16.

A good guess! Completely wrong, but a very good guess!

That would be Rei or maybe Usagi and Hotaru. Michiru would need her mirror and Ami the Mercury Computer. The others I can't recall having that ability in the anime.
These look like the future scouts, not the past one's.

Am i the only one who read craked moon and instanly thought; ONE PUNCH!!!?
Nope, sadly I don't think Zoat will go there given how generally meaningless Power Rings are in the face of everything else the universe throws at people.

Alternate orange lantern got mind controlled by one of the sailor moon enemies?
And so they assume this one is also an enemy.
Ooh... I hadn't thought of that. The first version of Paul to wind up in the HoMM universe died before OL showed up there. So if the same thing happened in the Sailor Moon universe, and that version died before OL showed up as well... what happened before he died? The HoMM variant's death was partially caused because of his extreme lack of inherent magic resistance, so the Sailor Moon version showing up as both powerful (the ring) and exceedingly susceptible to being mind controlled... Maybe the Scouts have a good reason to have a kneejerk reaction to the Orange light?

I admit I am not super familiar with sailor moon (I watched the series as a kid but don't remember much).

But didn't a lot of the bad guys have even features when not disguised?

So whatever happened with the alternate Paul, standing next to an elf probably doesn't help at all.

Changing Lanes (part 14) New
18th November 1995

A white 'dress' that leaves her arms bare with a skirt component that doesn't cover the subject. Gloves that cover her forearms, some sort of weird… Orange… Collar… Thing? With a blue bow? Blue eyes and long blonde hair with Japanese features… Okay, not impossible, I know Artemis, but still pretty unusual. And a glowing gold chain that's contracting and moving back towards her in a way that defies conventional physics.

And she's glaring at me in a way that suggests personal animosity. Since there aren't any Orange Lanterns around here, that suggests that she knows the local me. Or… Given that he didn't respond to my message, knew him. I should probably make an effort to explain-

I transition down as the golden chain surges towards me once again. Not too close, but-.

She jumps back and up, landing on the top of a still standing wall. Hm. More than human strength, and either the same with agility or she's in the top fraction of the species.

"Hello! I fear that-"

She swings the chain down, and I transition sideways as it slams into the road-. And sends tarmac and stone chips flying in all directions.

"-you're acting under a misapprehension!"

She pulls out… A makeup kit? Um.

"Right, so-."

The energy beam from the flipping blusher box nails me in the chest, obliterating my construct armour and send me flying again. Okay, that's where it comes from… Somehow. A jerk of her arm and the chain… Grows sword blades and slashes at me while I'm still in the air transition!

I appear next to Lushun, who is looking on is rapt fascination. "Is this how nobles duel in your world?"

"We don't usually do it in cities… But basically yes."

"Do you want my help?"

"No thank you. So far in my life I've killed no pole dancers, and I'd like to keep it that way."

"The young lady might not give you a choice."

"Not on her best day could she force me to kill her." Local scan, good. "Excuse me."

I appear her as she retracts her chain, swords sinking into the links.

"Would you mind-" She jerks her head around. "-knocking it off."

"Do you think using his body is funny?!"

I steeple my gauntlets at my chest and send my helmets into subspace. "This, young lady, is why checking out targets is important. Who do you think I am?"

"Zoisite."

"I have no idea who that is."

"Don't you?"

"No. Now-."

Her makeup box and chain vanish- "Then don't dodge." -and she crosses her arms across her chest. "Rolling Heart Vibration!"

"Are you-?"

I'm enveloped by… Rainbow? It feels… Prickly? Like it's shoving itself under my skin like an injection, but… Everywhere? The energy doesn't exactly feel hostile, but-. Oh yeah, I can sort of feel it rummaging around my metaphysique, looking for things it doesn't like. Of course, with how my tattoos work, while it's doing that I'm absorbing a little of it right b-.

"Ough!"

For one decidedly uncomfortable moment I see the image of a Mammite in my mind's eye, wreathed in rainbow light. Then the light consumes it, and… Huh. I actually feel slightly better. That hurt far less than when the Ace of Winchesters did the same thing.

And then… It's over, and I straighten up as the world's normal colours reappear.

"Alright? Are we okay-"

She stares at me wide-eyes for a moment, then leaps at me-

"-now?"

-and wraps her arms over my shoulders, pressed her face into the side of my head. She's trembling, and I hear her suppress a quiet sob.

"Um."

Okay, dismiss heavy armour, catch the strange Japanese girl and return to ground level. And-. She's hugging me, and my neck's getting damp.

Ring, do I want to know how old she is?

Data not available.

I awkwardly hug her back. I think this will be easier if she's had a chance to calm down a little-. Lushun wanders over, waving at me as he takes in the damage.

"Alright, look. I hate to break this to you-."

"You're not him." She pulls away slightly. "He told me about coming from another Earth. So I guess you're from a different one?"

"Yes. What's.. happening here?"

She takes a deep breath to steady herself, stretching and loosening her muscles and wiping her eyes with her right hand. "We lost. Queen Metalia restored herself to full power, and-. And the world's falling apart."

"Okay. Shouldn't be too hard to deal with. If-."

She glares at me. "She already killed you-! My you! My friends! She's flooding the planet with dark energy!" She calms down a little, still staring at me. "She is very hard to deal with."

"All problems are manageable, some just take time. I will aid you against this Queen Metalia person, and we will kill her. But I came here looking for someone. A woman by the name of Mazikeen, mask covering half her face?"

She shakes her head. "I haven't seem anyone like that. Why does she wear half a mask?"

"Only half of her face is missing."

"Oh. What happened to her?"

"Nothing? As far as I know, she was born like that. She wears the mask mostly because the missing-" I gesture to my own face. "-cheek makes it hard to understand what she's saying. But alright: world falling apart takes priority. What's the state of the world? Who are we up against? And what happened to your me?"

"Dark energy is flooding the world from the North Pole. Everywhere it touches, people turn into monsters. Japan… It hasn't reached Japan yet, but the Dark Empire already had their Generals gathering dark energy here." She glances over at the tall building. "They've been transforming people just for fun while Queen Metalia conquers the world."

"How powerful is she?"

"Very. Nothing-. Nothing we did to her did anything. And when the world realised what was happening and tried nuclear weapons, they didn't hurt her either."

"Nuclear weapons aren't an efficient way to deal with certain types of target. There are ways around that."

"And… She's using my you as her vanguard."

This is what happens when you forget the "i" when studying the D(i)C Universe, I suppose . . . :D

(In my defence, they did do the original distribution for the series, and it sounded funnier in my head.)

A white 'dress' that leaves her arms bare with a skirt component that doesn't cover the subject. Gloves that cover her forearms, some sort of weird… Orange… Collar… Thing? With a blue bow?

Okay, so judging by the description of her outfit, this is definitely Minako.

So, I was right, then. I knew she wasn't Usagi, because if she was, Paul would have recognized her immediately.

Once this whole thing is dealt with, maybe Paul should introduce Minako to Ghia'ta. Knowing what I know about her, I'd say that Minako would make an excellent choice for a Star Sapphire ring.

(Well, aside from that, as I recall, the Sailor Guardians defeated Jadeite by throwing a jet airliner at him, something that series skipped over...)

As I recall? They didn't so much throw it as him as ram him or run him over with one that I am pretty sure he was using against them.

So is Mammon going to be pissed off when OL gets back to Universe 16?

Wow... That's is a giant fuckup...

And not one Orange Lantern should be able to fix given how powerful a fully unleashed Metalia is.

That's a pretty accurate description of a Sailor Senshi uniform all right. I suppose the chain can be explained by a 'real' world lacking the constant re-use of stock footage making every use of an attack the same every time. 😏

And she's glaring at me in a way that suggests personal animosity. Since there aren't any Orange Lanterns around here, that suggests that she knows the local me. Or… Given that he didn't respond to my message, knew him. I should probably make an effort to explain-
Preferably before she tears you apart for wearing his face.

I transition down as the golden chain surges towards me once again. Not too close, but-.

She jumps back and up, landing on the top of a still standing wall. Hm. More than human strength, and either the same with agility or she's in the top fraction of the species.
I always like to think of it as some manner of innate magic that lets them jump far more efficiently than muscle power alone would explain. Given that they can bound across rooftops at a run with it...

"Hello! I fear that-"

She swings the chain down, and I transition sideways as it slams into the road-. And sends tarmac and stone chips flying in all directions.
Let's hope you can get a word in edgewise while she's rampaging at you.

"-you're acting under a misapprehension!"

She pulls out… A makeup kit? Um.
Unusual. Definitely a more manga-style variant, as the less-accurate-to-the-manga 90's anime simply had the beam come from a fingertip. Which means this world is a lot harsher. Their magic in the manga could kill a foe outright. In fact, Manga-Jadeite dies that way to Sailor Mars' fire-empowered ofuda attacks, rather than the anime's method of running a jet into him (which he survived, albeit wounded and fleeing!)

And the Venus Wink Chain Sword, another Manga-originating move. Said chain is also the 'belt' she wears on her uniform, it's worth noting, which the 90's anime left off of her design...

I appear next to Lushun, who is looking on is rapt fascination. "Is this how nobles duel in your world?"

"We don't usually do it in cities… But basically yes."
Well, the ones capable of fighting on this level try to avoid doing it in their 'world of cardboard', anyway.

"Do you want my help?"

"No thank you. So far in my life I've killed no pole dancers, and I'd like to keep it that way."
So defensive and low-lethality moves only. Restraint ahead of disabling.

"The young lady might not give you a choice."

"Not on her best day could she force me to kill her." Local scan, good. "Excuse me."
Especially when he's fairly sure she's a good guy, if he remembers Artemis' costume.

I appear her as she retracts her chain, swords sinking into the links.

"Would you mind-" She jerks her head around. "-knocking it off."
Ah, the weak point of her moves. She's not nearly as threatening in close, at least until she lays in with strength-enhanced martial arts.

"Do you think using his body is funny?!"

I steeple my gauntlets at my chest and send my helmets into subspace. "This, young lady, is why checking out targets is important. Who do you think I am?"
I expect the local version is just different enough facially that she'd notice the variation.

"Zoisite."

"I have no idea who that is."
'Zoisite' being one of the first story arc's lieutenants, who pulled an impersonation play at least once already. At least, he does in the 90's anime.

"Don't you?"

"No. Now-."

Her makeup box and chain vanish- "Then don't dodge." -and she crosses her arms across her chest. "Rolling Heart Vibration!"
Another Manga move, a purification technique of some kind that generally did nothing significant in its appearances..

Hopefully it doesn't mess him up at all. Some of the stuff in him is pretty... Inimical to her Light 'element'.

"Ough!"

For one decidedly uncomfortable moment I see the image of a Mammite in my mind's eye, wreathed in rainbow light. Then the light consumes it, and… Huh. I actually feel slightly better. That hurt far less than when the Ace of Winchesters did the same thing.
Presumably traces of demonic energy lingering in his 'soul' ever since that first big overdose of it. Intentionally from a demonic ally or by accident...

And then… It's over, and I straighten up as the world's normal colours reappear.

"Alright? Are we okay-"
No doubt feeling a little more... Lively for the experience, given the nature of her powers.

She stares at me wide-eyes for a moment, then leaps at me-

"-now?"

-and wraps her arms over my shoulders, pressed her face into the side of my head. She's trembling, and I hear her suppress a quiet sob.
All right, I'm guessing she knew Local-him fairly well before whatever happened to him. Hopefully as a mentor rather than a boyfriend. 😨

"Um."

Okay, dismiss heavy armour, catch the strange Japanese girl and return to ground level. And-. She's hugging me, and my neck's getting damp.
An awkward moment, given that OL rarely finds himself in this sort of position. Especially with a barely-five-foot-tall teenage girl. (Manga Minako is about ~155cm or so without her heels, if I remember the stats right. Slightly taller than Usagi.)

Ring, do I want to know how old she is?

Data not available.
It is 1995, after all, and the Internet is not nearly so all-encompassing to feature a teenage girl's age.

I awkwardly hug her back. I think this will be easier if she's had a chance to calm down a little-. Lushun wanders over, waving at me as he takes in the damage.

"Alright, look. I hate to break this to you-."
Good, he was smart enough to keep clear of the magical firefight.

"You're not him." She pulls away slightly. "He told me about coming from another Earth. So I guess you're from a different one?"

"Yes. What's.. happening here?"
Well, at least she's got some understanding of the situation.

She takes a deep breath to steady herself, stretching and loosening her muscles and wiping her eyes with her right hand. "We lost. Queen Metalia restored herself to full power, and-. And the world's falling apart."

"Okay. Shouldn't be too hard to deal with. If-."
That is very much an apocalypse scenario. That almost certainly means Metalia, demigoddess demonic ruler of the villains of the first arc, got its 'hands' on the central macguffin of the arc. That would give it enough power to break free of the magical sealing it was trapped in...

A woman by the name of Mazikeen, mask covering half her face?"
...And Usagi being dead (more likely a captive) is doubly bad, because she's nominally the only one able to use the item in question, the Silver Crystal. Picture a magical amplifier artefact that allowed a teenage girl to rewrite reality, albeit with some great risk of dying herself, mostly from mana exhaustion...

She shakes her head. "I haven't seem anyone like that. Why does she wear half a mask?"

"Only half of her face is missing."
I get the feeling Mazikeen ended up in the hands of the Dark Kingdom, and they somehow used her to their advantage.

Important questions. At least one of which could be solved with a bit of Identity Theft.

Well, vaporising them sounds like a start to resolving the matter, I think.

"How powerful is she?"

"Very. Nothing-. Nothing we did to her did anything. And when the world realised what was happening and tried nuclear weapons, they didn't hurt her either."
Probably because it's an energy-absorbing entity. The nukes may well have super-charged her.

"Nuclear weapons aren't an efficient way to deal with certain types of target. There are ways around that."

"And… She's using my you as her vanguard."
...Well, that makes this very personal now.

The likely best way to solve this would be to find Metalia's core where Usagi and the Silver Crystal are probably being held (alive or dead,) recover them and get her to sort matters out. Otherwise, well... Unless OL can Feed on Metalia to strip its stored power away, there's not many options.

Interesting that OL recognizes none of this, especially since unless I'm remembering wrong Artemis dressed up as Sailor Moon for Halloween pretty early on in this story.

So this Paul is part of Metallia's Vanguard? I never watched Sailor moon, so I have No idea what that means. Can this version be saved?

Wow... That's is a giant fuckup...

And not one Orange Lantern should be able to fix given how powerful a fully unleashed Metalia is.

I know, right? It's not often we see a world where Paul's presence somehow made things worse instead of better.

Either he'll have to find a way to revive the Sailor Scouts and then give them a do-over, or pit Metalia against an entity that would be powerful enough to go toe-to-toe with her.

It sounds like this is the anime timeline, and the SI's presence resulted in a sequence of events that allowed Metallia to win.

A Paul whose presence somehow doomed the world instead of improving it? Interesting. Definitely not something we see often.

Huh. From a world where Paul is dead to another world where Paul is dead(?). I guess this adventure might go through a chain of dead Paul worlds.

Hopefully Nekron won't find a way to resurrect those dead Pauls and then use them against the living Pauls.

All right, I'm guessing she knew Local-him fairly well before whatever happened to him. Hopefully as a mentor rather than a boyfriend. 😨

To be fair, it's entirely possible that this version of Minako is an adult, and that a few years have passed since her Paul arrived in her parallel.

Even if this isn't the case, maybe she's just hugging him because she's relieved to finally find an ally after fighting all alone against Metalia for some time.
