Not having any luck looking this up. Can't verify if it's right or not.

Referees are people who provide references.
Referees are people who are referred to. They are the targets of references, not the sources. (An umpire is a referee because you refer to them for adjudications.)

This is not the way American usage uses it when talking about job references, but I think that this might be a case where the British usage makes more sense to the way people actually do things in practice -- Americans pretend that old employers are referring their former employees to the new employer, but that's pretty rare and most of the time the new employer is asked to refer to the old employer for verification.

Sorry I often use voice to text to type these things out on my phone. I was asking if the Paul in the Nazi world was taken during the event crossover that involved Krona and if not why not also how come the Supergirl Overgirl from Nazi worlds didn't know about him?
No. Grayven stabbed Krona before he got that far down the list.
Thank you, corrected.

It's a fictional alien fruit, so...

It's okay in British.

Ugh.

ANOTHER DEMON INVASION?

Whyyyy
It could be interesting.

For the Sheeda invasion I sort of felt that OL could have made a much bigger impact by having been there for the full duration of the invasion.
He could have supplied people with large amounts of ring-built weapons tech designed to help counter Sheeda invisibility and armor, mass-empowered people with Danner or potentially Garrick formulas(After vetting them/doing a background check), or actually employed his at-will recruitment authority(probably mostly this last one).
As it was he only really had the time and motivation to do the Sivana thing and participate in the final strike, more personal investment in the destruction being caused would have made him motivated to take more extreme action.

Earth sixteen also has some advantage in that they've got a series of interdimensional travel blockers.
So I guess demon earth would have to invade through space or possibly by transiting to hell sixteen first?
Which makes them a harder target for demon earth than nearly every other earth.
More importantly, it makes the dynamic different as demons try to invade as part of a long drawn-out period of global threat trying to take out all of the blockers.

Might be interesting to see how well the Congregation, the Justice League's various theurgical members, and euanthe the super dryad's ability to produce Eden wood hold up against a planetary demon invasion/invasion by demonically-enhanced league alternates.
If they're actually being smart about the invasion and fighting no-holds-barred rather than purely engaging in supervillainous fisticuffs they might open up with weapons of mass destruction as a distraction and means of splitting up League members for ambush by forcing them to try to intercept(even if hell-ruled earth produces nothing, they might be able to dig up a bunch of nukes and bioweapons from old government sites).

New thought: could Hephaestus or Vulcan replicate the theurgical metal in the Ace of Winchesters? If not, what if he had the aid of a Justice League theurgist? Might be worthwhile to try if one of them is going to Thanagar. Whichever one might end up having to fight the seven devils at some point.

I lower my ring, and return my full attention to Kara.

"Right. Sorry about that. Did you have any design preferences, or do you just want to browse?"

"Shouldn't you do something about the demon invasion?"

"No. I told the Justice League what Truggs told me and told them that I'm happy to help. Working out how to defend the planet is their responsibility, so until they actually call on me I'm at your disposal."

She frowns with mock-crossness. "Defending the planet is everybody's responsibility."

"Yes, but organising it isn't. Complex endeavours like this require clear direction, and Angelica and Zauriel know more about demons and how to fight them than I do. Aquaman literally rules a country of wizards, every single one of whom is in a better position to ward the Earth than I am. When N.E.M.O. wants to use wizards, we have to go cap in hand to the Atlantean city states."

The frown has faded.

"The little fish?" She beams again. "He's so cute!"

"The.. fish-? No, not the fish; the umbrella organisation for the Maltusian military forces conducting our war against the Reach."

"Nemo?"

"Network for the Establishment and Maintenance of Order. In English anyway; they probably use something different in other languages."

"NftEaMoO?"

"Probably not. Anyway, would you prefer-"

Euanthe. She isn't in contact with the League. I don't know if her ability to manipulate antediluvian wood is limited to her avatar or something that she can do over an area.

"-something based on-"

The League doesn't have contact with Hell, as far as I know. I think Mammon would understand why it's better to ensure that there's a strong non-demonically dominated human population in order to ensure that there will always be people to corrupt. There are probably all sorts of things that the demons mostly keep to themselves.

"-old Krypton, or-"

If we're going to ward the planet then they're probably going to need to expand the runic satellite network and do it in a hurry, something that I could do faster than anyone else at their disposal.

"-more recent Krypton, or-"

"Nnno. Modern Krypton had dreadful style."

"-something else entirely?"

We both look at each other for a moment.

"I need to get on this, don't I?"

"No." She zips closer. "We need to get on this."

"Right." I hold out my right hand and fabricate an environmental protection harness. "Here. This will shield you against low to mid level radiation exposure and refresh the air around you."

She takes it from me.

"I don't care about radiation."

"Then in four hundred years from now, when you have super tumours, don't come crying to me."

"Oh. I thought you just meant kryptonite radiation. Because that can't affect me because it's from the wrong universe."

"We're dealing with parallel universes. They might have kryptonite that can affect you. But this will also deal with other radiation, and you still need to breathe."

"Not very often!"

"But you still need to breathe, we don't particularly want to have to deal with the hurricanes your deep breaths cause and at some point you might move away from a yellow sun."

"Okay!"

She clips it on over her uniform, and for a moment there's a very faint haze as the shield engages.

"Remember, it's not a true defence shield and can't deal with actual radiological weapons. It's for environmental exposure only."

She nods. "I understand."

"And one of these, it's called a Spell Eater. It will deal with ongoing magic effects placed on you but it won't completely stop sufficiently powerful spells cast directly at you."

"That means I'm basically unstoppable!"

"That's not what it means, it just means that if you have to take part in a counterattack that you should remain sane despite the exposure to demonic magic."

"What if someone throws a fireball at me?"

"Avoid it."

"What if I can't avoid it?"

"That depends on exactly what it is. If it's just conjured fire, it shouldn't do anything to you anyway, because it's almost exactly the same as if you stuck your hand in a bonfire. If the fire is itself magical then the Spell Eater will absorb the energy making it function, but only after it hits you."

"But I don't wanna be hit."

"Then avoid it. So our first stop is Brazil."

"I've never been to Brazil!"

"You've been here-. Okay. Do you have any kryptonian plant cultures or seeds with you?"

"Ah, well…" She squirms awkwardly. "I ate some fruit before I got into the pod-."

"Right." I hold up my right hand to stop her. "Right. I'm going to assume that passing through your supergut will have thoroughly destroyed them."

"I don't think that's how it works."

"Do you want to spend the rest of the day staring at mixed sewage until you spot the seeds?"

"Ew! No."

"Then they were destroyed. Euanthe-."

My rings blink.

"Illustres here."

Lantern Savenlovich's head appears.

"Orange Lantern, we have detected a powerful act of magic close to your current location. Please perform reconnaissance and report in."

"Demonic?"

"Yes. If you require additional help it can be provided."

"But you need everyone you have to work on countering a potential attack from Demon Earth. Don't worry. Kara and I will handle it."

Though when that eye ball planet develops their own magic tradition you may not need to.

Also they may not want competition.

waaaait a second....

Super Derp here knows about Finding Nemo?

Either this is an attack of the sliding time scale in comics, or something fishy is going on.

If she IS pre-crisis...that's mid 80's pop culture at the latest. Her current manners are a touch earlier then that, and her publishing history puts her at '59 at the earliest.

I mean, in the day that she's been on earth she could have watched the film...or heard it when she was listening to the whole planet I guess. But that film came out in '03, and the in universe date is 2012...bit of a stretch for it to be relevant.

Maybe she's been binging Earth media after Evil!Kara was taken care of?

Because there are very few problems left that Paragon can't just power through?
I can sort of see the desire for more variety, even if I don't agree with it myself.
There're a whole bunch of other sources of potential problems.
Like the elemental parliaments acting up, or the Greek gods doing something.
I suppose a sufficiently clever magic-based(or at least ward-incorporating) hostage scheme could provide a notable challenge, but most of paragon's nemeses/dark mirrors aren't really the hostage-taking type.
I personally am waiting for Tuttle to get out of prison and show up with vastly improved anti-lantern crumble technology.

It's a little difficult to think of more offhand, but the Greek god issue has been foreshadowed for a while.

I'm not sure why batman and OL are meant to have a more strained relationship in the future, but I basically assume it's the Joker's fault. In which case my sinking feeling says he's going to get to Harley Quinn and provoke Paul.

-------------------------
New chapter posted while before I posted this.
I like new Kara's energy. She's fun. Also suspicious.

Paul is correct about a bunch of the stuff he can do that the League can't. But he hasn't thought of the Congregation yet. I've been basically assuming that their ability to make light is harmful to demons/demonic magic, because they are the result of the silver city stepping in, and probably meant to counter Devil Jizzers.

Seriously though, does Kara Zor-L think Paul is cute or something? Or is she only hanging out with him because he's one of the few people she's gotten to know?
She is probably like a chick, the first person she saw after getting out of a pod imprinted on her and so she is following him around.

My rings blink.

Worst case scenario.
This is Mammon running to earth, showing up here and now because he's running for Orange Lantern's protection.
Kara is going to pick a fight with him.
Then he's going to reveal that Demon Flash or Demon Superman has transited to hell sixteen and is threatening his rule of hell and tearing a superspeed swath through his supporters.

It ?might? not be a disaster for hell even if that is happening. The provinces of hell are semi-disconnected and require portals to transit between them, and there are demons who could eventually bring down one of those guys.

I lower my ring, and return my full attention to Kara.

"Right. Sorry about that. Did you have any design preferences, or do you just want to browse?"
Okay, OL, I know you've had enough of Truggs' shit, but shouldn't you play some part in preparing for this invasion? Especially if the demonic hordes of Earth-whatever (I prefer Earth-666, lacking any information otherwise, Apparently that's taken, so Earth-Hell it is!) don't waste any time looking for, and finding, the way Truggs used to get Supergirl-Hell in the first place...

"Shouldn't you do something about the demon invasion?"

"No. I told the Justice League what Truggs told me and told them that I'm happy to help. Working out how to defend the planet is their responsibility, so until they actually call on me I'm at your disposal."
Not taking into account the fact they're relative amateurs at the process? But no, you don't want to do it, so...

She frowns with mock-crossness. "Defending the planet is everybody's responsibility."

"Yes, but organising it isn't. Complex endeavours like this require clear direction, and Angelica and Zauriel know more about demons and how to fight them than I do. Still... Ugh, it's pointless trying to change his mind, isn't it?

The frowns has faded.

"The little fish?" She beams again. "He's so cute!"
...Well, she has been catching up on human culture, I guess? And now I'm picturing her with a hundred TV screens and monitors, each playing a different movie or TV show... And she can keep each and every one of them straight.

"The.. fish-? No, not the fish; the umbrella organisation for the Maltusian military forces conducting our war against the Reach."

"Nemo?"
Surprised she didn't ask about the Reach, but I guess she figures 'If he's fighting them, they're bad guys.' She wouldn't be wrong, either.

"Network for the Establishment and Maintenance of Order. In English anyway; they probably use something different in other languages."

"NftEaMoO?"
:p First rule of Acronyms: dump any word that gets in the way of a cutesy abbreviation. Articles are prime targets for that.

"Probably not. Anyway, would you prefer-"

Euanthe. She isn't in contact with the League. I don't know if her ability to manipulate antediluvian wood is limited to her avatar or something that she can do over an area.
Oh, thought of something the League can't handle about the invasion preparations? I can't help but imagine his eyes darting back and forth as he thinks of each one...

And it's kind of a matter of jurisdiction, too. Don't want those dirty devils from that universe coming over here and messing up their nice Hell...

"-old Krypton, or-"

If we're going to ward the planet then they're probably going to need to expand the runic satellite network and do it in a hurry, something that I could do faster than anyone else at their disposal.
Don't forget to look into expanding the area of effect of those dimensional travel blockers. The current model only covers a radius of a few dozen miles, right?

"-more recent Krypton, or-"

"Nnno. Modern Krypton had dreadful style."
Well, that depends. Is that Earth-1 modern... Or Modern modern? I would definitely lean more on the classical 'raygun gothic' aesthetic over, say, Donner's 'Crystal pillars and tunics' look.

"-something else entirely?"

We both look at each other for a moment.
Yeah, she can probably see the neurons in your brain firing, and knows enough humanoid Kryptonoid biology to guess what you're thinking...

"I need to get on this, don't I?"

"No." She zips closer. "We need to get on this."
...Are we sure she isn't affected by Black Kryptonite, and is just so gosh-darn nice that she doesn't really do evil?

"Right." I hold out my right hand and fabricate an environmental protection harness. "Here. This will shield you against low to mid level radiation exposure and refresh the air around you."

She takes it from me.
Hopefully disguised as a classy 'House of El' icon belt, like Superman's?

"I don't care about radiation."

"Then in four hundred years from now, when you have super tumours, don't come crying to me."
And that's no idle threat. Just consider what different colours of sunlight can do to Kryptonians. I remember a storyline about Superman developing some kind of physical overload, just before the 'Electric' era...

"Oh. I though you just meant kryptonite radiation. Because that can't affect me because it's from the wrong universe."

"We're dealing with parallel universes. They might have kryptonite that can affect you. But this will also deal with other radiation, and you still need to breathe."
Oh, yeah, 'hurricane-breath' and Silver Age super-lungs... That's a recipe for trouble.

"Not very often!"

"But you still need to breathe, we don't particularly want to have to deal with the hurricanes your deep breaths cause and at some point you might move away from a yellow sun."
At a guess, at Silver Age levels of power, Superman could suck up a significant amount of gas into his lungs... Like, way more than should logically be able to fit into them, even when compressed into solid form...

"Okay!"

She clips it on over her uniform, and for a moment there's a very faint haze as the shield engages.
Ah, such trusting gullibility. But, again, she considers him a good guy, so naturally he wouldn't give her anything that could hurt her...

"Remember, it's not a true defence shield and can't deal with actual radiological weapons. It's for environmental exposure only."

She nods. "I understand."
Given her Silver Age powerset, she's basically immune to any purely physical attack vector short of a planet-killer... So it makes sense she wouldn't feel cocky.

"And one of these, it's called a Spell Eater. It will deal with ongoing magic effects placed on you but it won't completed stop sufficiently powerful spells cast directly at you."

"That means I'm basically unstoppable!"
 ...There's the cockiness. Though really, any caster who doesn't take her down on the first hit will end up.. pacified.. quickly.

"That's not what it means, it just means that if you have to take part in a counterattack that you should remain sane despite the exposure to demonic magic."

"What if someone throws a fireball at me?"
Dodge. Superspeed gives you a +100 innate bonus to Reflex saves...

"Avoid it."

"What if I can't avoid it?"
Well, if you're acting as a human shield for someone, then fine.

Finally, she understands! Well, she seems to understand. We'll see if it sank in when she inevitably gets dragged in.

"Then avoid it. So our first stop is Brazil."

"I've never been to Brazil!"
...I would say something about her not having been here long enough to, but OL can handle that.

"You've been here-. Okay. Do you have any kryptonian plant cultures or seeds with you?"

"Ah, well…" She squirms awkwardly. "I ate some fruit before I got into the pod-."
...Would Euanthe appreciate a donation of Kryptonian... fertilizer too?

"Right." I hold up my right hand to stop her. "Right. I'm going to assume that passing through your supergut will have thoroughly destroyed them."

"I don't think that's how it works."
Given the alternative, yes, that is how it works.

"Do you want to spend the rest of the day staring at mixed sewage until you spot the seeds?"

"Ew! No."
See! Thus, 'supergut'. Let's just add that to the long list of things not to think about now, then, shall we?

"Then they were destroyed. Euanthe-."

My rings blink.
Oh, hell, now what? A Reach push? Trouble with Jade? Dox wanting to know what the hell that last report is all about?

"Illustres here."

Lantern Savenlovich's head appears.
Oh, local business. That... That's actually worse.

"Orange Lantern, we have detected a powerful act of magic close to your current location. Please perform reconnaissance and report in."

"Demonic?"
Oh, hell. ...Heh, 'Oh, Hell' indeed... ;)

"Yes. If you require additional help it can be provided."

"But you need everyone you have to work on countering a potential attack from Demon Earth. Don't worry. Kara and I will handle it."
Well, a Silver Age Kryptonian is a pretty major force multiplier. Even a teenage girl.

Well, no time wasted, it seems. Looks like OL's going to have to make his preparations later... If he gets a later. It looks like Earth-Hell is wasting no time. Let's hope this is the only stop they made on the way. We can but hope it's a friendly demon, from the faction OL more-or-less controls, trying to get in touch... Or maybe it's that guy involved in the "Many Happy Returns" storyline...

I doubt there will be a Demon Flash.

Mainly because a Demon Flash would be completely unstoppable.

I'm not sure that Demon flash would beat Paul in a fight. I guess he could if he can do the more exotic attacks/higher powerlevels, but I'm not convinced he actually would.

If they catch Demon Flash in hell 16 they could prevent too much collateral damage, while on earth they're basically dependent on demon flash being either too busy striking super heroic targets to target civilians/being limited by the need to fight earth 16 speedsters, and hoping that either the combination of Jay and Barry(and wally draining speed, assuming that comes up again) is enough to take him(probably really wishing that they'd taken the subspace arsenal Paul suggested to Flash way back), or that their speedsters can take advantage of area of effect attacks caused by league theurgists and Paul to beat demon flash, or that some of the earth 16 Kryptonians can weigh in to help allied flash.
(I've been assuming that being demon-y enhances him somehow, making him more dangerous.)

Also hoping that demon flash can't do superspeed demon magic rituals, either because he doesn't do magic, or because the rituals can't be sped faster than something in the system other than the caster can handle(either the magic or the demon).

In short, there could be demon flash, because he is stoppable, just difficult.

Or her Krypton knew of them.

So is Paul, to be honest.

Defending a planet by himself, sure, he's good at that.

Organizing people and groups into doing it, not so easy.

Earth 666 is officially the Lucifer universe.

Played straight to each character's actual powers and the kill first ask questions never of the Demonic being's from that world that we've seen so far?

Paragon stands absolutely zero chance.

Because in the time it would take Paragon to even register he was even under attack, his rings would already be destroyed and his head separated from his body.

Yeah, she did absorb that Heaven Tree and became an anti-demon entity, so she may be able to affect plant on a wide scale to become anti-demon.
He'll, she may be able to make trees release oxygen poisonous to demons.
You don't want to do something too planet-wide like that. There's a number of demonically-powered heroes who wouldn't appreciate it, and a number of partial-demon normals who don't deserve it.
You might end up with some angry gray-skinned goth chick scowling at you.
