Subspacing is working there after dealing with Melmoth?
ITYM while the Harrowing is happening.

Maybe you only things when you go into Witch world, but get to keep it in subspace after you leave.

That and he can just make new armor piece after he leaves.

All the Sheeda stuff they brought wasn't in subspace but in construct carriers.

ITYM while the Harrowing is happening.

Oh yeah, good point.

Well, that is fun. Breaking the laws of magic by time travelling. So, is this Ipswich near Brisbane?
No.
Maybe make it 'they want to make' , or 'the drover isn't coming' , because you wrote drovers it would mean that there was more than one, but only one wanted to make sure that they knew what to do with the animals.
The 'he' is Abednego.
'the claim'
'her right'
Thank you, corrected.
I'm fairly sure that's correct.
Either you misspelled this and it should be 2012, or even this stories version of 2020 isn't safe from becoming a burning turd of a year.
Whoops.

Time Shenanigans! Is it possible that... Melmoth fucked them over? Nah, he was such a trustworthy fellow!

When they went through it they were told that months may pass on the Earth 16 side, so Melmoth wasn't really behind this, but his wife just launched a Harrowing while they were away.

Considering the unplanned 8 year time jump I'd say not enough. He's downright shifty even!

Zoat changed it to 2012.

It's still more than 1 month into the future, from Paul's perspective.

Yes but a month or three were accounted for I think. 8 years post-Harrowing of 2012 would've been much more interesting.

Also, was OL trolling Beulah or flirting with her? Given how tsundere she is around him it's hard to tell.

I smile at Beulah as she performs a final check of her equipment.
No doubt wishing she could employ some of it to be rid of OL. I take it she's coming to Earth again.

"Short straw or long straw?"

Her eyes move my way for a moment. "Your meaning?"
Likely an idiom she's never heard, giving that drawing straws would seem somewhat like gambling to the Columbians. I expect they sort out shit work by whoever's in charge simply telling them who's doing what.

I nod to the standing stones where a couple of local mages -theonomists, they call them- are working on reopening the witch-path. Not the same one we came in by, but Melmoth had a more complete map than the Columbians do. It takes more effort to ensure that it's properly aligned, but can be reactivated far more swiftly. The underlying reason is probably quite fascinating, and I'm hoping to get the theonomist accompanying us -a Doctor Bertram- in contact with Sephtian.

Probably… Best I don't mention the 'flying through Hell' outline we came up with.
Well, one benefit of having Swirly-cheeks working for him now. Easier access to Sheeda resources.

"Drawing straws is another term for drawing lots. 'Drawing the short straw' is a metaphor for being selected for an unpleasant job."

"I do what duty requires."
No doubt she volunteers for hard duty all the time. Likely out of some guilt over her family having produced Klarion. Or she's just that zealous.

"Right, and so does Abednego." He's over talking to the drovers handling the few Sheeda animals we captured alive. The drovers aren't coming with us and he wants to make sure that he knows how to look after them. "But Shadrach isn't here, despite being one of three witch-hunters who've been on our side before."

"Lord-Protector Judah is like to order a purgation. Brother Shadrach would be loath to be elsewhere when it occurs."
Ah... So the Witch-hunters will be running around looking for warlock-breed and Sheeda-spawn after all. No doubt the man in charge decided to have a pre-emptive 'don't pull any shit' lesson in advance.

"So how-?"

"He is a judge of where to apply his own skills, and God Almighty is the judge of his soul. Abednego is perhaps a little too charitable. Our embassy must have someone who can judge you clearly."
 ...And they're sending you? I kid, I kid. She's probably one of the saner Witch-hunters by virtue of youth. No cynical experience to speak of.. besides Klarion.

I smile. "Oh, that's right: you missed me going to Heaven, didn't you?"

Her eyes return to me.

"Is this some manner of jest?"
Yeah, OL doesn't really seem the sort, though. Boy, That's going to be a shock when she hears the story.

"Oh, I wish." I shrug. "I wouldn't mention it, but there's no way someone isn't going to mention the whole thing while you're on Earth, so I'd rather get it out of the way now."

"You expect me to credit a claim that you died and went to Heaven and yet stand here now, risen anew?"
Well, it wasn't entirely his choice, after all. It was more of a theocratically-motivated kidnapping. The only reason he busted out was his non-standard configuration of soulstuff.

"No, I expect you to disbelieve me, and gradually gain more information supporting them claim, then become increasingly irrational in your demands that I deny that it happened before finally realising that it's true and… I don't know, going on a huge bender as you try to use alcohol to erase your memory of the revelation."

"Your imagination is heartily overactive."
Eh, it's a long-established trope. The True Believer who discovers that what she believes isn't as squeaky-clean as she thought. Then goes through a breakdown and rebuilding period...

"Then you would deny the bender, and just avoid me while throwing yourself into your work to try to regain some semblance of normalcy. But gradually the thoughts would return, and-."

"You are a pagan, are you not?"
Why, yes, he is. Looking to join up, or would you like to have your crisis of faith first?

"Yes. Oh, believe me, Heaven wasn't my preferred-."

"I am pledged not to use my pyromantic magic against another Christian. But I will not be made a warlock for using it against you."
Ah. The old 'I really want to hit something right now. You'll do.' play.

"Understood. But I can't feel pain unless I want to and I can regenerate non-fatal injury."

"I would test that."

I hold out my right arm. "Go right ahead."
So accommodating, OL. You're presumably hoping it doesn't involve some quirky kind of magic you won't be able to heal, I expect.

She reaches out and firmly grasps my forearm with his right hand, flames blue and fierce and.. entirely ineffectual against my environmental shield. She meets my eyes and I shrug, and-. Then for a moment she makes flames inside my environmental shield, burning my skin under my armour. She's still watching my eyes and I shrug again, subspacing my vambrace to reveal the burned flesh. Which then glows orange and is restored to pristine skin.

She lets go of my arm and I replace the armour.
Feel better now? Anytime you feel the need to do that out of righteous anger, I'm sure OL will volunteer...

"And I'm completely serious about the Heaven thing, too. The Angel King Asmodel decided that he could run the universe better than God, Karrien Excalibris just wanted to kill things and they both decided I was an acceptable target. My soul was taken to Heaven as a hard test of their new rehabilitation system."

"Rehabilitating one as prideful as you might test even the angels' capacities."
Not in the way you're thinking, ironically. It was more like plugging a modern hard drive formatted for a Mac into a thirty-year-old PC... Many compatibility issues.

"That's what they said! But they won't get another chance. Straight to Erebos next time."

"Your false idols will not shield you from the Lord."
Well, that depends on how well the Presence can negotiate with Lord Hades. Since I doubt it particularly wants a war breaking out over one oddball soul... Sure, it'd likely win, but not without a lot of collateral damage.

"Perhaps, but they will shield me from everyone else." The glow of the witch-path stabilises and the theonomists step away, nodding to the Columbian MP who is coming with us to open diplomatic negotiations. "So anyway, how do you feel about any of this?"

"The thought of spending time in your presence engenders a great desire in me to swear an oath of chastity."
Not the first time OL;'s had that reaction, is it?

"Oh, there are plenty of dour Christian men on Earth. I'm sure you could find someone who's a match for you. But I really meant the stuff with the Sheeda… Melmoth."

"All should burn. But you may put them to the question first, that you may learn to better burn the rest."
...Okay, the lady really needs to calm down a little. Or her patience is going to be sorely tested on Earth. After all, even if she isn't a local beauty, her features are going to be quite attractive to some folks...

"Not.. big on turning the other-?"
If she's turning the other cheek, it's only because she's winding up for a reply to your first shot..

"Brothers and Sisters, and honoured guests!" The MP gestures for our attention. "The way is stable, and we are ready to depart! For the first time since our forefathers were snatched away from their homes we will have official contact with England once more!"

That should be 'foremothers', given that they're descended from Melmoth and the colonist women. And… Someone has told him that America is an independent country, haven't they? I sort of assumed that they'd feel closest to the United States, but I suppose that it makes sense that they feel closer to English Nonconformists than anything else.
Yeah, this is going to be very entertaining. It's a pity we'll likely not see the day-to-day experiences of the Columbians, except for brief check-ins by OL.

Major Adams and Abednego head through the portal first, then a theonomist and the mission's priest. John and I are going back because we need the carrying capacity of two Lanterns to wrangle all of the materials we're bringing with us. Some of the porters finish loading up John's lorry constructs and he follows a cluster of political aides through into the witch-path.
So, Alan and Diana are sticking around locally, until the negotiations on their side are worked out? And I presume Canis is staying there to get Mother Box tuned in.

"You and me next, then."

Beulah moves towards the portal without further comment, back and weapons stowed. I pick up the cages and crates containing living and dead specimens for dissection and float after her.
Ah, the not-so-glamorous side of Lanternhood. Getting stuck doing the heavy lifting...

Back on Earth
Somewhere Near Ipswich

I look around the.. park? It's daylight at least. Ring, check time and-
Ipswich England, as Mr Zoat thoughtfully clarified. So they're back in England after all...

25th June 2020
11:23 GMT

-date..? Oh. Time passes… Slower there. Something to bear in mind, but the difference…
Honestly, even though Mr Zoat corrected the date, this still would have been an interesting plot. I could easily see the witch-paths as having a temporal component alongside the spatial one. They are coming back from millions of years in the future, after all. I doubt the Sheeda would care about a few years difference in target date... Just imagine the story possibilities as they try to track down a time machine in the middle of an invasion, trying to get back home while doing their part to protect people...

"…Justice League mission…"

Soldiers in British Army uniforms are pointing guns at our guests as Major Adams tries talking their sergeant down. And I see tents… Refugee tents? Pitched all across what looks like it used to be a playing field-.
And the Sheeda are Harrowing here too, given the troops' reaction to the Columbians.

"They're here!"

I look up as a solid black wave of insect riders cover the sky.
Well, bugger. At least Melmoth can be useful, even if the invasion's already started...

So, the Sheeda Harrowing happened on the same day in both Paragon and Renegade timelines, then. I expect they're having a much harder time of things with humanity this time, though. And there's a good chance the Orange Lanterns have sent some people to help the fight, this being their Illustres' homeworld and the Venturia pact and all. Whatever else, it's a hell of a way to finish an episode.

...without further comment, back and weapons stowed.
Something feels missing there.

No doubt she volunteers for hard duty all the time. Likely out of some guilt over her family having produced Klarion. Or she's just that zealous.

She may just like to work.

Idle hands and the devil.

 ...And they're sending you? I kid, I kid. She's probably one of the saner Witch-hunters by virtue of youth. No cynical experience to speak of.. besides Klarion.

She's most likely going there as a bodyguard.

Given the fact that they sent her to kill Klarion she may be at least a bit more powerful than your average Columbian.

Well, that depends on how well the Presence can negotiate with Lord Hades. Since I doubt it particularly wants a war breaking out over one oddball soul... Sure, it'd likely win, but not without a lot of collateral damage.

And that's assuming that the Presence is still around and hasn't left like he did in Lucifer.

Not the first time OL;'s had that reaction, is it?

No, no it isn't

Yeah, this is going to be very entertaining. It's a pity we'll likely not see the day-to-day experiences of the Columbians, except for brief check-ins by OL.

To be fair we don't see the day to day experiences of a lot of the civilizations OL visits.

That's actually user side. In your browser settings. I think?

Hmm, didn't know that.

I hope that Beulah finds out Paul was telling the truth and gets to speak with Zauriel. Where is he by the way? I would think Heaven would want to at least make a token effort to help humanity with something like this, or at least have Zauriel represent them.

Last time we saw Zauriel OL advised him to help of the Terror Twins mother with her alcoholism because she was more likely to listen to an Angel than an ordinary priest.

Maybe he is helping them fight off the Sheeda, but as for the rest of Heaven remember that they have some odd priorities, like when they didn't try to stop the demonic invasion on Fawcett despite their mission being to fight the influence of Hell, so they may not be lending a hand for whatever reason.

Those Congregationalists may be helping out, but that's probably it if Heaven hasn't decided to do more.

If this really is a Harrowing as it was in Renegade than I can't wait to know how effective or ineffective the Sivanas' defenses were. They may even be looked on positively if it turned out well.

What happened to the captured Sheeda guy? Is he in the same situation as Melmoth or did he die or escape in the chaos of Melmoth's attack?

Ah here I was thinking the "timeskip" the story was supposed to have was Zoat pulling a huge trojan horse on us.
Even his typos are well played.
No, that was just a mistake on my part.
Ahh British English, truly it will destroy us all.
That's the plan...
Something feels missing there.
Thank you, corrected.
2012, and it's still 2012, but Zoat misspelled it the first time, but now changed it from 2020 to 2012.
Less 'misspelled' and more 'forgot what year it was'.

Is Zauriel full angel again? Or is he still Fallen? I can't remember whether he got restored or not?

He got his Angel powers again after Karrien killed him in the Judgement Day episode.

When he went to see OL the last time he apparently looked less ethereal.

I think the Angel Kings thought about making him a mortal, so maybe they did do that and that's why he looks less ethereal, or it could be because he wants to not stand out so much and is trying to look at least a bit more human.

Truly Brits are evil.

Less 'misspelled' and more 'forgot what year it was'.

That, or you wrote another worlds apocalyptic year.
