Trials of the God-Harem King [Highschool DxD/Exalted] (CLOSED)

Some random observations from reading nearly the entire first thread.

[x] Evil-Pieces are probably made via Craft:Air or Craft:Magitech due to their crystalline structure.

[x] With Craft:Earth and Craft:Wood at OOO Issei is an professional Architect, sculptor, stone-mason, carpenter, tailor, paper-maker, and flower arranger. On the other hand we have no ability as a cook, tanner, smith, potter, clockmaker, painter or jeweler.

[x] Some suggestions for income are to go into the fashion industry, carpentry, or sculpting.

[x] Issei really should have Resistance: OOOOO (Sex O) instead of Performance: (Sex O), the first is the act of having sex while the second is staring in a porno. As Evidence:

Exalted 2ed core pg 130 said:
STRENUOUS ACTIVITY (RESISTANCE)
Characters can perform continuous heavy exertion for a number of hours equal to their (Stamina + Resistance + pertinent specialty). Such exertion includes running, swimming, sex or any other athletic activity. For each subsequent hour of activity after that, characters suffer a cumulative one-die internal penalty to all actions from fatigue. Spending a Willpower point negates all fatigue for one action and reduces total fatigue by one. Channeling a point of Conviction negates fatigue for the next minute and reduces fatigue by a character's Conviction rating. When the fatigue penalty exceeds a character's (Stamina + Resistance), the character passes out and remains unconscious until she has slept for at least one hour (which removes one die of penalty). Every additional hour of sleep or three hours of rest removes another one die until the penalty is removed. Until the penalty is completely gone, the character automatically begins accruing more penalty dice for doing anything strenuous. Characters who are treading water will drown unless they have a buoyant object to keep them afl oat while they rest.

Particularly extreme conditions of temperature (in either direction) can penalize a character's effective (Stamina + Resistance) total for the purposes of determining resistance to fatigue. Generally, such conditions do not impose a penalty greater than -3.

[x] If for any reason members of Snake or Ragnarok surrender that might be a good source of income/minions, have them actually working as a private security force.

[x] What the hell are we going to sacrifice to gain sorcery? I had an idea last night that sounded good but forgot it. Wait got it, our unwillingness to kill? Honestly it's probably going to suck regardless.

[x] When making new charms remember that if a second charm is a straight improvement of a previous one you might want to make it a auto-improve at E- or charm repurchase instead of a wholly new charm.

We covered this early in thread 2. The Sacrifice isn't a sacrifice in the sense that the book describes it, it's a test of choice in which we encounter two possible futures and have to choose only one of them. An example might be choosing between living in the human world or in the supernatural world -- right now we're still straddling the line, attending high school when we could probably graduate early and free up lots of time for more training. Our indecisiveness on that count is holding us back from achieving our true potential -- overcoming that roadblock and acting decisively is what the final test is supposed to be about.

Resistance (Sex) would be your endurance, how long you can last and all that.

Performance (Sex) on the other hand, is to be crass how good a fuck you are, and that's what Issei has been training up in /laugh

On the whole Station of Sacrifice' Please for the love of god stop arguing this and just Trust in the ST to give it the thought and consideration it deserves.

Swinging your sword and parrying with it aren't split up into two different abilities, so I don't see why sex should be either.

It definitely shouldn't be in Performance though. That's the skill for group social interactions, and while we've been getting really lucky, we haven't been that lucky just yet.

Thanks, I'd read all the story post and I'm now reading through the comments and discussion to get a better idea of our plans and such. Currently just past pg 80 in the first thread.

This remind me of this quote:

"Even the Chosen of the Sun or the True Magicians merely have the power to make the choice they want and achieve it, damning the obstacles and the consequences."

How true.

I will think about it. In the meantime tell me what you think.

In my opinion? The streamlining of the many types of Craft into a single ability is worth it alone. In addition to that, the time/ craft roll system is more elegant: instead of reducing by a factor of X, you reduce by time intervals, Seasons->Months->Weeks->Days->Hours->Minutes->5 Seconds. The new artifact rating system is also superior, I think.

Eh, it was more intended to let you know "this is how it is in RAW, deal with it how you wish."

Apropos Reviled's craft rewrite. It's honestly the only one I've seen that I could stand, and even then it sets me on edge. I've always been a fan of the canon elemental crafts primarily because it makes crafters pick and chose what they wanted to be able to make.

Frankly those are the only crafting rules I even partially understand so far. Its seems wonderfully well thought out but I have only managed to read some of it so far.

[x] Depending upon the GM farming, gardening and landscaping are all under Craft:Wood or Craft Earth. Yet another source of income and a good use of any minions we might acquire in the up coming battle. Hell we've already started down this path, I imagine our cult would be willing to help out.

Har har.

Anyway, I'm back (the most difficult two days of my life) *beat* Anyway (again), the next update will mark the beginning of an exciting adventure into the world of...

HSDK (History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi)

Yeah, no sense keeping up the mysterious act. However, any of you who think of this as a nice diversion from the main plot....*ominous crackling*

Let me say it yet again: the number of crossover elements in this universe...is fixed. The setting I choose are the only one who will make a significant impact on the story. The rest, is adaptation.

Now, for Revlid's Craft revision, I take Least Devotee's opinion and answer with the true method of Voting:

As you faithfully wait for me truly (allow me a bit of hubris), I would like your inputs on my reflections on the possible Charm Cascade for Ophis and Great Red in Yozi style.

But first, we must explain how Yozi's Charms work:

Solar Charms are based on Abilities: all effects under an Ability enhance the effects of a normal application of that Ability, often on super-human levels.

Yozi has themes: the effects of their Charms are build around logical applications of that theme. There are three or four Central Charms embodying a theme, and their respective Cascades expand on it.

Let's make an example. Let's use Malfeas, the most famous Yozi.

1) "By Pain Reforged": this Charm is build around the premise that Malfeas is in so much pain since his defeat that enduring made him sturdier. The Charm Cascade includes increasing Soak, healing and a perfect defense.

2) "Green Sun Nimbus Flare": the theme here is manifesting your rage as green atomic hate-fire. Seriously: it causes nuclear contaminations. The rest of the Charms increase how much this fire can burn, even souls.

3) "Nightmare Fugue Vigilance": this represents Malfeas' arrogance, that make him refuses orders and cause others to submit to him, even by force.

This is a general recap. Using Google you can find more extensive guides. With that out of the way, let's talk about Ophis and Great Red:

Ophis has three Themes: "Infinity", "Chaos" and "Nothingness"

-Infinity: the theories so far include under this theme Essence Charms to regain motes and increase the normal amount. It should also include a perfect defense, since in canon Ophis was stabbed by the True Longinus and didn't even flinch: this is explained as her never having to worry about physical damage (how do you damage something infinite? You're too tiny in comparison)

-"Chaos": this should include the Snakes that she uses in canon and her blessings (read her wiki page). This is comparable to Wyld mutations: since she is infinite she encompasses all possibilities, and so can realize them. However, she is limited in that she can create only things that exists or may exists naturally in the world. I think at least. She can just create and/or alter living beings: this is the premise. Why, I have yet to find.

-"Nothingness": this is comparable to Oblivion, so the ability to utterly destroy something.

Great Red has three Themes: "Dream" , "Zero" and "Illusion" (GR is seriously similar to a Raksha in his purview)

-"Dream": this should be about, apart from seeing and entering dreams, manipulating probabilities in the user favor, by straining the border between reality and the user's desired result.

-"Zero": should be about creating, by selecting Zero as a building block. A type of Craft. No matter what you add, you obtain something. In conjunction with Dream, it should allow to make dreams true (like, do you want to craft a diadem made from crystalized regret?)

-"Illusion": this is similar to a Raksha's Shaping, altering reality by superimposing a false one, that could be resisted if one is stubborn enough.

This is it for now. Like I said, as we proceed with the quest I would like you dedicate a few minutes to the subject and tell me what you come up with.

Hmm. That's a decent starting point, but I recommend taking your cues from this guide. Revlid has excellent credentials for this stuff as he's written at least two or three complete yozi charm sets, particularly his Isidoros set.

Now, back to making Characters... because whoever made the characters in the Scroll of Exalts should be shoot, Anja had a knack she didn't even have the essense for and I just *flails wildly* so yeah, going to use them as staring points and work from there.

And yes I could just write of the top of my head, but I've always been someone who's been much more comfortable being able to say my characters can do this, this, this, and that, but not this or the other ^^; I like my crunch what can I say.

I've also worked out what got Anja in trouble, MoW is sentimental (Obsessive), and was hoping to catch the current incarnation of Brights Exaltation so he may has had something of hers that Anja was tasked to steal, because Ma-Ha-Suchi is an asshole nowadays.

I find it amusing how something I started as a funny little snark has grown into something with an actual plot now and more then 3 characters o_O; how the hell did this happen >.<

Enjoy-hora.

I think you wanted me to post input here, so I'll go ahead and go through it for you.

Hmm, first thing. Increase the melee score needed under complementary abilities to 2, delete the melee prerequisite from every charm in the tree.

Now, charm by charm. Quick warning, I haven't done much Exalted homebrew in a decent while and haven't ever made a TMA. My experience comes from 1 complete devil tiger set, about half of another and editing a third, a bunch of miscellaneous charms which ranged from well received to hilariously poorly considered and one CMA I never quite got around to finishing.

Constitution of the Behemoth: Doesn't do anything as written besides waste an action. Instant duration means you boost your soak when you use it. Simple means you use it on your action, you're not being attacked during the moment of your action so it doesn't actually work. Easy enough to fix by making it reflexive (step 7) instead of simple. After that it'd be fine.

Resolve Scattering Fairy: 1m to drop DV by one. Limited to half your MA rating, but stacks with excellency. As dropping DV is effectively the same as adding one success (except that it doesn't encounter dice penalties). Half martial arts rating means at most a -2 penalty to DV, or rather +2 successes on an attack roll that doesn't count for charms but can be negated more easily via charms. Wording is a bit unclear and could be tightened up. The bonus here works fine, a bit unsure whether 2m is too cheap or not. (An excellency for the same effect would be 4m with a shorter duration)

Fury of the Leviathan: Kinda odd in that this does the same thing as the wind charm except more effectively with a shorter duration. Is this meant to stack with the charm before it, and if so how?

Kiss of the Passionate Phoenix: Duration should be set to scene. Wording should be clarified a bit. It looks like the simple action is a martial arts attack that does no damage, but the charm should say so more explicitly. Fun hat if a character uses this charm they have to spend motes when they activate it rather than choosing how much later.

"To use this charm the martial artist makes a single attack against an enemy. If this attack hits it does no damage but reduces his lethal soak by the number of motes spent on this charm or his bashing soak by double that amount."

Need to double check costs again, and maybe a few keywords, but otherwise this is viable.

Four Elemental Form: A form charm that does four things at once. Okay, that fits the style. -1 speed to attacks, +1 rate, +2 defense +2 accuracy. Since those bonuses enhance equipment they don't count as dice from charms and aren't nullified by gear bonuses. That's... big.

You also add something about fighting prone that has no interactions anywhere else in the style and have a really esoteric benefit to the whole not-starting a fight that shows up nowhere earlier in the style's thematics. Don't know the game in question and this might be from there, but if fighting prone should be a thing, make it a part of the style from the getgo or build at least one other effect that touches on this.

The intent of this charm is pretty neat. The idea seems to be internalizing the four foundational charms and then getting some kind of benefit from each. Fixing this isn't hard. I'd say make the accuracy/defense bonuses count as dice from charms, and maybe rework the others. However, that ends up being boring for a rather nifty idea. Rather than synergy if you want a fighter who uses different elemental styles, I'd say make the form charm a four in one type deal.

The user picks a bonus from the form when activated for one of the elements, and then can swap either as a misc action or reflexively via spending a mote or two. IE: They can slip to the "earth" stance when getting hit, then move to fire when trying to hurt someone or wind when trying to fight defensively or water to break past a foe's guard.

Element Clad Resolve: And this charm is insane. Assuming "minimum artifact rating" is meant to be maximum, because that makes a lot more sense, you're still dealing with a charm that gives out 4-5 dot artifacts without attunement/maintenance/etc. The armor is also invisible and appears as a free bonus whenever you use the already too good form charm. It also doesn't count as armor for martial arts at all.... Allowing it to work with any style's charms. The limitation of the form charm helps a bit, but it still allows a lot here.

By contrast Glorious Solar Plate is a solar charm that allows you to make a 1-3 dot artifact armor as its own simple charm invocation, doesn't work with MA and needs to be activated separately.

Terrestrial Martial Arts defines the single weakest category of charms in the game. Solar charms define, outside of some unusual panoply stuff, the strongest. It also has nothing to do with any of the effects in this martial arts style. The fact that it's essentially identical to a resistance charm is kind of iffy, especially in a style that doesn't adjust soak at all up until this point. Maybe CMA or SMA could justify this kind of abstract effect, but it seems like 'create weapon/armor made of energy' would be its entire style, not something tacked on to another TMA. Rather than fixing this, I'd say ditch it entirely and replace with something else.

If you are determined to fix it, I'd say you would modify it as follows: Add a massive surcharge to the form charm to use this and limit it to only 1 dot artifact armors. Even then, it'd still be crazy good for TMA or even a lot of CMA. The subtle effect should also go or get expanded on until it makes sense. Is the armor invisible? is it a protective aura? DOes it exert an illusion effect that there's no armor?

Chivalry of the Elements: Pretty much the same as the above charm. This is far far better than Glorious Solar Saber and should be ditched entirely.

Four-Fold Friendship: I'll be honest and say I don't get the logic of this charm. It's a permanent charm with no connection whatsoever to martial arts that has no combat effects. It also creates a categorically immortal form of life as part of a TMA. Familiars are pretty meh on the whole so it's not as crazy broken in general as the other two, but with no restriction on base templates, no real connection to combat (where TMA are supposed to be narrowly defined methods of combat vs CMA and SMA being more and more abstract) this is kinda really out of left-field and very strange. You might be able to justify it, but again, that feels like more the territory of CMA and the kind of thing you'd build an entire style around.

Elemental Retribution: Doubling post-soak damage lets you effectively double your ping. In 2.5 where ping is fairly small and soak is a viable method of defense, this is huge. That you don't need to declare the charm until step 8, and thus never have to spend motes on it until someone's already given up any chance of using a PD is pretty awful. IE: You only pay for this when it will work.

Hungry Tiger technique is a solar charm that should be much better. Hungry Tiger is supplemental, It also connects only with the offensive elements of this style and doesn't really mesh with any effects besides the fire one maybe. Turning damage into aggravated is probably enough of a bonus for a charm, there are definitely TMA ones that do the same. That said it's really odd to do so post-soak. I'd say make it supplemental cut the effect down to just making damage aggravated, or something like adding Martial arts to your raw damage (depending on the form weapons for the style). As a capped vaguely inferior version of hungry tiger that'd be a decent capstone for TMA.

Overall we have four charms that give you benefits tied to the elements, a form charm that then does a lot of different things, which makes sense, then three charms that create magic armor, weapons and give you an immortal summonable pet, then a big damage booster. I don't really see how these connect to the described effects of the style and would suggest replacing them with post-form elemental effects that match up to the earlier charms or at least something that fits the style.

At present we have the first half of a style about fighting in emulation of the varying elements in turn, while the second half allows you to make invisible weapons to fight with. A craft focused style based around making an essence knife or the like could be a nifty style to make for CMA or SMA, but it seems kind of odd for a TMA focused on something else entirely.

Alright, let's try this:

Ophis:

"Infinity": Ophis is a boundless being, including everything she needs into herself. She is self-sufficient. However, this make her apathetic to others, lesser beings because she doesn't need them.

"Chaos": Ophis follows her own rules. Always. She doesn't act without a cause, but often this cause is non-understandable to others. She re-paints the world following her whims, disrupting the natural orders.

"Nothingness": this can be seen as the opposite of Infinity, yet isn't Absolute Nothingness the most perfect form of Infinity? Ophis doesn't destroy, she merely bring an existence back to his original state, as formless matter with a form that exist in-potential. Nothingness is the most perfect form of Infinity. Similar to the Buddhist concept of Sunyata.

What comes from nothing? Anything. Thus infinity. But infinity is not the physical universe because infinity is too great to express itself in something like this. The physical universe is just an image of infinity. It is a representation of the qualities of infinity, but is not infinity in totality. Infinity is a uniform immeasurability. Infinity is nothingness as nothingness is infinite.

Nothingness is the Beginning. Infinity is the End. Those two are one and the same.

Thus Ophis is the Serpent that Eat her own Tail. Because she is the Beginning of her End and viceversa.

If you want to balance the forging charms, maybe look at Path of the Arbiter. It's a TMA that let's you call artifact weapons, armor and create a familiar mount. The maximum artifact rating for it is 3, that should probably be the upper limit for this style too.

Great Red:

"Dream": it is on a conceptual level something that is made from thoughts and ideas. Great Red was born from dreams, thus he is composed of infinite potential. In contrast to Ophis, he is not infinite but he can grow without limits. Similar to the Unconquered Sun and the Primordial, but without a geas stopping him from acting against Ophis. However, isn't the dreamer often the protagonist of his own dreams? We see that Great Red is arrogant: just like a Raksha, he sees himself as the protagonist, with the universe as his own story. He took the Dimensional Gap from Ophis and spend his time doing crazy aerial moves because this is what (at the moment probably) interests him. He can understand others, but his understanding his marred by, similar to a Raksha, prejudice that they are extra, not real.

"Zero": like the Wyld, it is the ultimate 'can be something' that isn't yet. Great Red was born from dreams, which are not real but can become real with enough effort. It is different from Infinity/Nothingness since it composes what exist between them, the infinite variants between extremes. However it also indicate worthlessness.

"Illusion": Something fake. A distortion. It is how Dreams first manipulate reality, by changing it into something it is not. This is pretty straight Raksha Shaping Action, building a lie that depends on others to exist. In other words, it is something that doesn't exist until someone acknowledge it

Bad news: things came up and I need to go. Update tomorrow. Bye.

Such is life, take your time, we will see you later ^^

Better to have it later and awesome then sooner and not as good as it could have been
